Payward, Kraken's parent company, announced plans to deploy onchain perpetual futures for US clients using Hyperliquid's HIP-3 builder-deployed permissioned markets framework. The structure routes regulatory obligations through Bitnomial — a CFTC-regulated exchange acquired by Payward for $550 million in April — which would deploy and clear new markets, while NinjaTrader Clearing would handle US client onboarding. Co-CEO Arjun Sethi said Payward "intends to be the first, holding the keys and carrying the regulatory obligations," positioning it as the compliant bridge between US regulated infrastructure and Hyperliquid's onchain venue.

The move follows President Trump's August comments that the CFTC was working toward a compliant path for the exchange. Hyperliquid has processed over $200 billion in trading volume in the past 30 days — making it the world's busiest onchain derivatives venue — but remains officially closed to US traders. No launch date has been set and regulatory approval is still pending, but the Payward framework is the first to combine a registered US exchange and clearinghouse with Hyperliquid's builder-market tooling. HYPE is up 211% year-to-date.

President Trump stated at a White House summit that his administration is "working hard" to bring Hyperliquid to the U.S. market "in a fully compliant and legal fashion," with the CFTC reported to have cleared the path for domestic availability. Hyunsu Jung, CEO of Hyperion DeFi, called the moment "extremely positive to see Hyperliquid acknowledged at that level, and to see support from key agencies like the CFTC." HYPE jumped 58% in the wake of the endorsement, while HYPD stock gained 37% over the same month.

Jung explained that his firm — the second-largest HYPE treasury holder after Hyperliquid Strategies, with approximately 1.93 million HYPE tokens valued at over $166 million — plans to "consistently accumulate" more, arguing that broader ownership is beneficial because future Hyperliquid primitives will require HYPE staking. Hyperion DeFi also runs institutional-grade validators for staking rewards and deploys HYPE across DeFi primitives including lending, borrowing, and vault strategies.

HYPE has been added to the Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (NCIQ), managed by Hashdex, securing a 3.4% weighting that makes it the fund's fifth-largest holding. The ETF tracks the Nasdaq CME Crypto Settlement Price Index — a benchmark built on Nasdaq and CME Group methodology — and held approximately $431.37 million in net assets as of September 1. HYPE sits behind only Bitcoin (74.6%), Ethereum, XRP, and Solana (3.7%), outweighing positions in Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, and Bitcoin Cash.

The inclusion marks HYPE's first appearance in a US-listed crypto index ETF, representing a significant institutional milestone for Hyperliquid's layer-1 chain focused on onchain perpetual futures. At the time of the report, HYPE traded at $81.76 — up 5.74% over 24 hours with a market cap near $18.31 billion, placing it tenth among all cryptocurrencies — and had recently set an all-time high of $84.80 in late August, aided by a new buyback program funded by reserve yield.

Hyperliquid Strategies — the publicly traded digital asset treasury company known by its ticker PURR — has doubled its HYPE token holdings over the past year while also completing a share buyback of 3,067,097 shares, representing approximately 2.42% of the company. The firm secured fresh equity funding and launched a major validator on the Hyperliquid network, reinforcing its structural bet on the protocol. Its latest earnings reported $9.46 million in operating revenue against $305.54 million in net income, with the outsized profit driven by unrealized gains on HYPE holdings rather than business operations.

The strategy mirrors the treasury-company model popularized by MicroStrategy with Bitcoin: accumulate a core asset using equity raises and hold through volatility, with buybacks signaling management confidence. Analysts note that PURR's income figures depend heavily on HYPE's market price, and the split between operating revenue and token-related gains will determine whether those results prove durable or largely market-driven.

Hyperliquid Strategies (NASDAQ: PURR), a publicly traded firm whose primary asset is a HYPE token treasury, disclosed a $1.904 billion position — 29.3 million HYPE tokens — as of June 30, 2026, up from an initial 12.5 million. The company added roughly 16.5 million tokens at an average price of $46.77 since fiscal year-end, deploying $773.4 million in fresh capital. Fiscal 2026 net income reached $305.5 million, largely driven by $709.9 million in unrealized HYPE gains, with total assets of $2.06 billion and no debt on the balance sheet.

The disclosure underscores the scale of institutional demand coalescing around HYPE: the firm now holds nearly 9.4% of global perpetual futures volume runs through Hyperliquid's exchange, and Hyperliquid commands 63% of decentralized perpetuals open interest. HYPE gained approximately 77% in the quarter ended June 30 and traded near $84.90 at the time of reporting. CEO David Schamis described the period as foundational, citing treasury expansion, validator launches, and the company's full exit from its prior biotech operations.

Hyperliquid activated the Aligned Quote Asset v2 (AQAv2) framework on August 26, routing 90% of yield generated from its USDC reserves into the Assistance Fund for ongoing HYPE buybacks and burns. Coinbase serves as treasury deployer with Circle handling technical deployment. Revenue cycles settle every 30 days, with automatic transfers to the Assistance Fund eight days after each interval; the first payout is scheduled for October 3, 2026.

AQAv2 adds a second deflationary channel alongside Hyperliquid's existing policy of directing 99% of trading fees toward HYPE buybacks. With USDC reserves currently estimated at $5–7 billion, market observers project AQAv2 could contribute $135–200 million annually toward buybacks at scale, with initial allocations supporting roughly $20 million per year. HYPE was trading near $82 on activation day, approximately 1.4% below its all-time high of $83.27.

The number of financial institutions holding Hyperliquid Strategies (NASDAQ: PURR) — a publicly traded vehicle designed to give traditional investors exposure to Hyperliquid-related strategies — grew 122% in three months to reach 202 holders, according to Form 13F filings. Names on the roster include BlackRock, State Street, Morgan Stanley, Invesco, Citadel Advisors, Jane Street, Renaissance Technologies, and Stanley Druckenmiller's Duquesne Family Office. At the same time, 11 institutions reduced positions and 29 exited entirely during the same period.

The headline growth, however, carries an important caveat: much of the buying appears mechanical rather than conviction-driven. PURR's inclusion in the S&P Global Broad Market Index, Russell 2000, and Russell 3000 in late June triggered mandatory purchases from passive index-tracking funds. BlackRock's filing used the 13G form, which designates passive holding. The analysis concludes that index inclusion — not fundamental conviction in Hyperliquid — accounts for the bulk of the institutional expansion, cautioning against reading the 122% holder growth as a direct endorsement of HYPE's long-term prospects.
