Sygnum Bank
Sygnum is a global digital asset banking group that holds the distinction of being the world's first regulated digital asset bank. The idea was conceived at the Singapore Fintech Festival in November 2017. The company incorporated in Switzerland in May 2018 and in Singapore in June 2018. In August 2019, Sygnum Bank received its banking and securities dealer licence from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), and within months its first clients were purchasing Bitcoin and Ethereum through a fully regulated banking interface.
The group was co-founded by Luka Müller (Chairman Emeritus, Switzerland), Manuel Krieger (Board Member, Switzerland), Mathias Imbach (Group CEO), and Gerald Goh (CEO Singapore). Its stated mission is to build a trusted gateway between the traditional and digital asset economies — a vision Sygnum calls "Future Finance."
Regulatory Foundation
Sygnum's regulatory footprint spans six jurisdictions. In Switzerland it holds a FINMA banking licence; in Singapore it holds Capital Markets Services (CMS) and Major Payment Institution licences from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). The group holds an EU MiCAR licence in Liechtenstein for EU market access, a Financial Services Permission from the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), and is registered in Luxembourg. This multi-licence structure enables Sygnum to serve professional, institutional, and high-net-worth clients across more than 80 countries on a fully compliant basis.
Services
Sygnum operates across four main business lines.
Digital Asset Banking. Sygnum's 24/7 banking platform supports more than 70 tokens and integrates fiat and digital assets in a single e-banking solution. Supported fiat currencies include CHF, EUR, USD, and SGD. Services include spot crypto trading, derivatives, FX, tokenized securities, institutional custody with banking-grade asset segregation, and a Lombard loan program that allows clients to use digital assets as collateral to access fiat liquidity.
Asset Management. Sygnum manages discretionary mandates for institutional clients and offers proprietary investment products including the Yield Core AMC (launched 2022), the Starboard Sygnum BTC Alpha Fund (launched October 2025), and Sygnum Select (launched February 2026), a discretionary mandate that applies the Swiss private banking model to digital asset treasuries. Sygnum Select launched with approximately $200 million under management.
Tokenization. Sygnum has been a pioneer in real-world asset tokenization since 2020. Milestones include tokenizing artworks by Pablo Picasso (2021), tokenizing CryptoPunk NFTs (2021), tokenizing a $3.8 billion Hamilton Lane Private Markets fund (February 2024), tokenizing $6.9 billion in Matter Labs treasury assets (March 2024), and partnering with Fidelity on a tokenized money market fund (May 2026). In April 2026, Keyrock issued a tokenized corporate bond via Sygnum.
B2B Platform. Sygnum provides regulated digital asset banking infrastructure to other financial institutions. More than 20 banks currently use the platform, including PostFinance (which launched crypto offerings through Sygnum in February 2024 and added staking in February 2025), Bordier & Cie (the first B2B partner, 2021), Bison Bank, and VermögensZentrum. Sygnum estimates its B2B network reaches approximately one-third of the Swiss population.
In June 2024, Sygnum launched Connect, a 24/7 multi-asset instant settlement network. In December 2025, it became the first European digital asset bank to partner with BNY for USD settlement services, giving institutional clients direct access to BNY's global payment infrastructure.
Sygnum Protect
Sygnum Protect is the bank's off-exchange custody platform, designed to let clients keep assets in Sygnum's custody while trading on external venues without counterparty exposure. In 2025, the platform added integrations with Deribit (March 2025) and Bybit (September 2025). By March 2026, assets held on Sygnum Protect surpassed $1 billion.
Scale and Milestones
By the end of FY2025, Sygnum held approximately $6 billion in client assets under administration, served 2,300 clients across 80+ countries, and employed more than 250 people across Zurich, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Luxembourg. In January 2025, the company completed an oversubscribed $58 million strategic growth round led by Fulgur Ventures — elevating its post-money valuation above $1 billion and achieving unicorn status. Net new money exceeded $1 billion in 2025 for the first time, driven by growth across Sygnum Protect, credit and lending, the B2B platform, and new asset management products.
Sygnum has established several industry firsts: the first bank to offer Ethereum staking (July 2021), the first Swiss bank in the metaverse (September 2022), the first bank with a dedicated NFT platform (November 2022), and in May 2026, the first regulated Swiss bank to complete live AI-agent driven digital asset transactions.
Solana
Sygnum supports SOL custody, trading, and staking through its banking platform and UAE entity, offering both custodial and non-custodial options.
In May 2025, Sygnum expanded its Lombard loan program to include staked SOL as eligible collateral — one of more than 20 tokens clients can pledge to access fiat liquidity while continuing to earn staking rewards. This came as Sygnum's lending book had doubled over the preceding 12 months.
In October 2025, Sygnum Bank Middle East launched Sygnum Validators from the Abu Dhabi Global Market — a service operating institutional-grade validator nodes for select blockchain networks with Solana as the first supported network. The service allows eligible SOL holders to delegate their assets to Sygnum's validator nodes without transferring custody, combining institutional-grade infrastructure with the flexibility of self-custody. Delegation is available through any compatible wallet interface with no client onboarding required. Sygnum had previously operated validator nodes on Cosmos and Internet Computer before extending the program to Solana.
Sygnum's UAE entity also offers non-custodial Solana staking as a dedicated product for institutional clients domiciled in that jurisdiction.
