Core Mechanism

The app's fundamental loop is straightforward: users set a nightly sleep window, their smartphone health data tracks rest quality and duration, and the system calculates a daily score based on consistency against stated goals. Hitting those targets unlocks a second daily NFT on top of the one every user receives automatically. Missing them means leaving rewards on the table. This structure creates a habit-reinforcement cycle rather than a pure token-farming loop, which the team credits for its reported 41% yearly retention rate and the fact that 78% of users open the app within ten minutes of waking.

Underneath that simple bedtime mechanic sits a deeper idle-RPG game layer. The app's home screen surfaces a Hero Gacha system, an idle reward engine, automated combat, character customization, meditation content, and sleep-sound tools. Combat runs passively — players configure hero placement and upgrades, then earn resources offline while they sleep. The full app — available on iOS and Android — requires active sleep tracking. It is the primary venue for earning $SHEEP tokens and higher-tier NFT rewards, as real biometric data underpins every session score.

Sleepagotchi Lite runs inside Telegram and LINE without requiring sleep-tracking integration. Users earn points through daily activities, leaderboard participation, and referral campaigns. The Lite version drove the two-million-user milestone and serves as a top-of-funnel for converting casual users into full-app participants. An expansion onto Sony's Soneium blockchain powers the LINE Mini App distribution, giving Sleepagotchi reach into LINE's 200-million-plus user base.

Tokens and Rewards

The project's primary on-chain currency is $SHEEP, the native token that underpins rewards, marketplace transactions, and ecosystem incentives. Inside the app, users accumulate vSLEEP, a non-transferable in-game credit earned through streaks, referrals, and battle completions; vSLEEP gates progression and feeds into the leaderboard structure that determines top-tier SHEEP distributions.

A Token Generation Event for SHEEP was scheduled for Q3 2025, accompanied by pre-TGE airdrop campaigns run through the Telegram Lite app. The project was incubated by CoinList and Alliance DAO, which provided distribution infrastructure for the pre-launch airdrop mechanics.

As Gotchi Labs broadened its platform vision, the SLEEP token — a precursor denomination used in earlier communications — is being rebranded to CHI, a unified layer currency intended to serve as AI credits, subscription access, staked tier management, gamified rewards, marketplace settlements, and partner campaign currency across all future Gotchi Labs verticals.

NFT Design and Gacha System

NFT rewards in Sleepagotchi are primarily cosmetic and functional upgrades for a player's on-screen companion — a virtual creature whose lineage draws explicitly from the Tamagotchi aesthetic. Items include digital home decor, character skins, and customization kits distributed through the gacha system. The gacha structure borrows from Japanese RPG conventions, where randomized pulls create collection incentives independent of sleep performance. Players earn one free daily NFT unconditionally and a second by meeting their sleep target, making the NFT cadence tied directly to health behavior rather than spending.

Gotchi Labs: Platform Expansion

In 2025 the company rebranded its parent entity as Gotchi Labs and announced an expansion from a single sleep app into a multi-vertical consumer AI platform. Health and Wellness remains the anchor, but four additional categories are in development: Shopping and Commerce, Fitness and Exercise, Productivity and Daily Life, and Personal Finance.

Each vertical is powered by a specialized AI agent. The Sleep Coach processes recovery data, the Wellness Coach connects sleep metrics to broader habit patterns, a Meal Planner ties nutrition to wellness scores, and a Shopping Agent turns behavioral data into AI-driven commerce recommendations. The CHI token unifies all verticals, functioning as the economic backbone across subscriptions, in-app purchases, and cross-agent reward flows.

This pivot repositions Sleepagotchi from a niche sleep-to-earn game into an entry point for a broader ambient AI layer over everyday consumer behavior, with Solana underpinning the on-chain settlement and NFT infrastructure.

Team and Funding

Gotchi Labs has raised $6.5 million in total funding. The initial $3.5 million seed round came from 6th Man Ventures, Shima Capital, and 1kx — a combination of crypto-native and gaming-focused investors. The company is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Original founder Anton Kraminkin transitioned to a strategic advisor role as the platform expanded. Kenny Wood took over as CEO to lead the Gotchi Labs buildout. Shalini Wood and Aditya Julka joined as growth partners focused on user acquisition and platform partnerships.

Solana Fit

Sleepagotchi launched on Solana for the same reasons most consumer-facing gaming projects have chosen it: low fees, fast finality, and an established NFT ecosystem. Daily NFT distributions to a base of millions of users would be economically unworkable on higher-cost chains. Solana's throughput allows the reward system to run continuously without batching or user-facing settlement delays. The Solana Foundation has provided direct support to the project. The cross-chain expansion to Soneium for LINE does not displace the Solana core — it layers additional distribution on top while keeping token settlement and NFT ownership anchored to Solana.

Status

As of mid-2026, Sleepagotchi is active. The Gotchi Labs rebrand and CHI token migration are underway, with the Telegram Lite app continuing to generate new users.
