About

Revolut

Revolut is a London-headquartered financial technology company founded in July 2015 by Nik Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko. What began as a prepaid travel card with interbank exchange rates has grown into one of the world's largest digital banking platforms, serving more than 70 million retail customers across 39 markets as of early 2026. The company reported approximately £4.5 billion in revenue and £1.3 billion in net profit for the 2025 financial year, and carries a private valuation of around $65 billion.

Core Banking Products

Revolut operates through a mobile-first app that consolidates a wide range of financial services. Users can open multi-currency accounts supporting over 150 fiat currencies, make fee-free card payments globally, send and receive domestic and international transfers, and withdraw cash at ATMs in 120 currencies. Tiered subscription plans — Standard, Plus, Premium, Metal, and Ultra — unlock varying levels of foreign exchange allowances, cashback, insurance perks, and investment features.

Beyond everyday banking, Revolut offers stock trading with fractional share support, peer-to-peer instant money transfers, eSIM mobile data plans, travel insurance, and, more recently, digital mortgage products in select European markets with same-day conditional approvals. Business accounts extend these capabilities to SMEs, adding expense management, invoicing, and corporate cards.

Cryptocurrency Services

Revolut has offered cryptocurrency trading since 2017, making it one of the earliest mainstream financial apps to integrate digital assets. The platform currently supports trading across more than 200 cryptocurrencies and processes over $8.3 billion in stablecoin transfers annually, spanning four primary settlement networks: Ethereum, Tron, Polygon, and Solana.

In October 2025, Revolut secured a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), allowing it to provide regulated crypto-asset services across all 30 European Economic Area markets. Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd holds this license and is registered as a crypto-asset service provider in Cyprus. In the United Kingdom, Revolut's crypto activities are authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority.

In November 2024, Revolut launched Revolut X, a standalone crypto exchange available across EEA markets with desktop and mobile interfaces. Revolut X targets more active crypto traders, offering 0% maker fees on spot trades and access to a broad token selection. The company has outlined plans for a "Crypto 2.0" upgrade that would expand token coverage to over 280 assets and introduce zero-fee staking with reported annual yields of up to 22%.

Solana Integration

Revolut's Solana integration, launched on December 3, 2025, marked a significant shift from treating SOL purely as a speculative trading asset to providing full on-chain connectivity for its user base.

Prior to this date, Revolut customers could buy and sell SOL within the app but had no ability to move tokens on-chain — withdrawals, external wallet transfers, or staking were unavailable. The December 2025 update changed this across all three supported assets on the network.

Supported tokens: SOL, USDC, and USDT.

Available capabilities:

  • Send and receive SOL, USDC, and USDT over the Solana network
  • Peer-to-peer transfers between Revolut accounts using Solana rails
  • Withdraw to external Solana-compatible wallets
  • Stake SOL directly within the app to earn network yield

Solana's sub-second block times and near-zero transaction fees make it a practical settlement layer for the stablecoin flows Revolut handles at scale. For the platform's 15 million crypto-enabled accounts, the integration removes previous technical barriers: users can now stake SOL and earn yield without managing a non-custodial wallet or interacting with validator infrastructure directly. Revolut handles custody and delegation on behalf of the user.

The announcement was accompanied by a post from the official Solana X account — "Send, receive, or pay via Solana, with USDC, USDT, and SOL. Or stake your SOL and earn yield directly through Revolut." — reflecting the significance of the partnership from the protocol side as well.

Revolut joins a growing list of mainstream fintech platforms adopting Solana as a payment and settlement rail in 2025–2026, including Venmo (SOL support added April 2025), with Cash App and Western Union also committing to Solana-based stablecoin infrastructure in the same window.

Regulatory Footprint

Revolut's regulatory position has strengthened considerably in the period leading up to and following its Solana integration. In addition to its MiCA CASP license in Cyprus and FCA authorization in the United Kingdom, Revolut obtained a full UK banking license in March 2026, ending years of operating under an e-money license with its British customer base. The company has also secured banking licenses in Lithuania (for EEA passporting), Australia, and Mexico, and received conditional approval from California's Department of Financial Protection and Innovation for a US bank charter, with a consumer-facing launch targeted for 2026.

The US bank product is expected to include FDIC-insured checking and savings accounts, multi-currency functionality, stablecoin access integrated at the account level, and crypto trading for major assets. Analysts have noted that Revolut's MiCA license also positions the company to issue its own stablecoin under EU rules, though the company has not made a formal announcement on this front as of mid-2026.

Team

Revolut was co-founded by Nik Storonsky (CEO), a former Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse derivatives trader, and Vlad Yatsenko (CTO), who previously held engineering roles at Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse. The company employs several thousand people across offices in London, Krakow, Vilnius, Dublin, and Singapore, and is led by a management team drawn from traditional finance, technology, and regulatory compliance backgrounds.

Solana Compass Relevance

Revolut's Solana integration is directly relevant to the network's mainstream adoption narrative. As a regulated, non-crypto-native platform with 70 million users and a banking license, Revolut represents the kind of institutional distribution that moves stablecoin volume and expands SOL staking participation beyond native on-chain users. The platform's decision to add Solana alongside Ethereum, Tron, and Polygon — and to expose staking to a mass-market banking audience — signals that Solana's throughput and fee characteristics are increasingly preferred by consumer-facing products operating at global scale.
