Nana Wallet
Nana Wallet is a self-custodial digital wallet implementing MPC technology for simplified key management, enabling users in emerging markets to store, send, and receive USD-pegged stablecoins. The system supports USDC and USDT storage, integrates with traditional banking rails for fiat conversion, and offers yield generation through DeFi protocol integration. Users access the wallet via email authentication without seed phrase management while maintaining full asset control.
Nana Wallet
Nana Wallet is a stablecoin-powered money application built for the next billion people in emerging markets. Launched by Nana Money Inc. and developed by Dickens Ochieng Odera in Kenya, the app positions itself as a "money super app for global mavericks"—a financial layer that lets users in Africa and diaspora communities hold, send, earn, and spend US dollar stablecoins without ever needing to understand blockchains or manage seed phrases.
The Problem It Solves
Traditional cross-border money transfers in emerging markets are slow and expensive. Wire transfers can take days and cost $28–52 per transaction. Local currencies across Sub-Saharan Africa are also chronically volatile, eroding savings held in naira, Kenyan shillings, or Ghanaian cedi. Nana addresses both pain points simultaneously: it offers dollar-denominated savings that protect against devaluation, and near-instant international transfers that settle in seconds via stablecoin rails at a fraction of legacy wire costs.
How It Works
Users sign up with just an email address—no seed phrase, no complex crypto onboarding. Behind the scenes, Nana uses Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology to generate and secure each user's private keys. MPC splits key material across multiple parties so that neither Nana nor any single entity holds a complete key, preserving self-custody while eliminating the seed-phrase backup burden. Wallets are additionally protected by in-app biometrics (fingerprint or Face ID) and an optional security PIN.
On-ramping is designed to meet users where they already are. Users can fund their wallet directly from mobile money services—M-Pesa, Airtel Money, MTN MoMo, Vodafone Cash, AirtelTigo Money—or transfer from centralized exchanges like Binance, Coinbase, and OKX, or from any external wallet via QR code or wallet address.
Nana sponsors all blockchain gas fees, so users never pay network transaction costs. From the user's perspective, every transfer is free at the protocol layer.
Supported Blockchains and Stablecoins
Nana is explicitly multi-chain. The blockchains currently supported are:
- Solana — USDC and USDT cash-outs to mobile money and bank accounts
- Celo — buy and sell USDC and USDT via mobile money or bank
- Stellar
- Base
- Additional chains noted as "coming soon"
The stablecoins supported are USDC, USDT, and cUSD (Celo Dollar). Users can view balances in multiple local currency equivalents—KES, NGN, GHS, UGX, MWK, CDF—and transact in the local denomination of their recipient, with live foreign exchange rates applied at the point of conversion.
Key Features
Cross-Border Money Transfers. A sender in the UK or US can send funds that arrive as Kenyan shillings directly in an M-Pesa account, or as Nigerian naira in a bank account, in seconds. The conversion happens on-chain and settles to local rails without the sender or recipient needing to interact with a crypto interface.
Save in USD. Users hold USDC or USDT to hedge against local inflation. The dollar peg ensures savings retain their value even when local currencies depreciate.
Bill Payments. Users can pay local bills and utilities directly from their wallet balance via M-Pesa Paybill, Buy Goods (Till), or Send Money—without cashing out first.
Cash-Out to Mobile Money and Bank. Supported cash-out destinations span seven African markets: Kenya (M-Pesa, Airtel Money, 14+ banks), Nigeria (bank transfers), Ghana (MTN MoMo, Vodafone Cash, AirtelTigo Money), Uganda (MTN MoMo, Airtel Money), Malawi (MWK), and DR Congo (CDF). New regions are added incrementally.
Global Virtual Accounts and Cards. Virtual USD, EUR, and GBP accounts and a virtual card for global spending are listed as early-access coming-soon features, aimed at freelancers and remote workers who receive international payments.
Earn and Referral Programs. Users earn $1 for each friend who signs up using their referral code and completes a first transaction. The app also offers a Learn & Earn feature with weekly educational cards that award redeemable points, plus daily check-in streaks—both redeemable for cash to mobile money, bank, or USDC.
Target Markets and Users
The homepage lists Nairobi, Lagos, Accra, London, Dubai, New York, Sao Paulo, Mumbai, Singapore, and Dar es Salaam as representative user locations—reflecting both the African home-market users and the diaspora senders in global financial centers who want to remit money cheaply. The mission statement frames financial inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa as the core goal: "financial stability shouldn't be a privilege."
Security Posture
Nana's website claims the wallet is "Audited & Secure," though no specific audit firm or report is publicly linked as of the time of research. The security architecture is fully self-custodial: Nana states it never holds user funds or private keys. MPC cryptography is the primary technical defense, supplemented by biometric authentication and encrypted transit for all data.
App Availability and Status
The Android application launched on Google Play (package: money.nana.wallet) under the developer name Nana Money Inc. and was last updated June 4, 2026. The iOS App Store release is listed as "coming soon" on the website. The app is rated Mature 17+ on Google Play due to its financial content. Download counts are in early stages (100+ installs on Play Store), consistent with a recently launched product.
Solana Ecosystem Fit
Solana is one of Nana's four supported settlement blockchains, specifically highlighted for USDC and USDT cash-outs to mobile money and bank accounts. Nana's zero-fee model benefits directly from Solana's sub-cent average transaction costs and 400-millisecond finality, which make it economical for the app to sponsor gas fees on behalf of users. The product sits at the intersection of Solana's stablecoin payment infrastructure and the real-world financial rails of Sub-Saharan Africa, extending dollar liquidity to populations that may never interact with a Solana RPC endpoint directly.
