LocalPay Wallet

LocalPay Wallet is a self-custodial stablecoin wallet for everyday payments in Vietnam. It lets users scan regular merchant QR codes to pay without a bank account while keeping full control of private keys. The app provides real-time transaction notifications and keeps fees simple for daily spending.

LocalPay

LocalPay is a non-custodial stablecoin wallet built on Solana that bridges the gap between crypto holdings and everyday merchant payments across Southeast Asia. Its core proposition is straightforward: travelers and digital nomads can pay at ordinary local businesses by scanning the same QR codes those merchants already use — without requiring merchants to adopt any new technology or even know they are receiving a crypto payment.

The Problem LocalPay Solves

Spending stablecoins in the physical world has historically required either finding a crypto-native merchant or using a custodial card product that reintroduces counterparty risk. In Southeast Asia, where QR code payment infrastructure is deeply embedded in retail commerce, the gap between on-chain stablecoin wealth and offline daily spending has been a persistent friction point for the growing population of crypto-native travelers and expatriates. LocalPay's founders, themselves practitioners who encountered this friction firsthand in the region, built the platform to close that gap.

How It Works

LocalPay operates as a mobile application available on both iOS and Android. Users top up their LocalPay wallet by sending USDT or USDC directly on Solana to their in-app address — fully on-chain, with no custodian intermediary holding funds. Once topped up, making a payment requires only opening the app and scanning the merchant's existing QR code. LocalPay processes the transaction on Solana and converts the stablecoin value to local fiat currency through established payment rails, crediting the merchant's account in Vietnamese dong without requiring any blockchain knowledge or wallet setup on the merchant side.

The entire flow from scan to completed transfer is designed to finish in under five seconds, enabled by Solana's sub-second block times and low per-transaction fees. This speed and cost profile is critical for everyday small-ticket commerce where Ethereum-style gas fee friction would make the unit economics unworkable.

Supported Assets and Blockchain

LocalPay runs natively on the Solana blockchain. Supported assets include USDT on Solana and USDC on Solana, with the iOS application also listing CASH on Solana as an additional supported stablecoin. The non-custodial architecture means private keys remain exclusively with users — LocalPay never takes custody of assets.

KYC (Know Your Customer) verification is required to unlock full wallet functionality. Regional access rules apply: users residing in Vietnam must top up through crypto exchanges or peer-to-peer transfers, while users from other regions can access additional funding methods for international use.

Geographic Presence and Expansion

LocalPay is currently live for merchant payments in Vietnam, where QR code payment infrastructure is near-ubiquitous and Vietnam passed legislation in June 2025 (effective January 2026) formally recognizing cryptocurrency ownership and trading under the Law on Digital Technology Industry. The regulatory shift has made the country a meaningful first market for the platform.

Planned geographic expansion includes Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines — all markets with established QR code payment networks and growing stablecoin user bases among the 169 million stablecoin holders the company cites as its total addressable market.

Hackathon Recognition and Backing

LocalPay placed third in the Stablecoins track of the Solana Breakout Hackathon, a competition that drew more than 10,000 participants and 1,412 final project submissions, making it one of the largest crypto hackathons on record at the time. The stablecoin placement recognized LocalPay's concept as a stablecoin payments platform for emerging markets.

Following the hackathon, LocalPay was accepted into Colosseum's Accelerator Cohort 3. Colosseum is a Solana-focused venture and accelerator platform; acceptance into the cohort is highly selective, with the Breakout cohort reporting a 0.68% acceptance rate from applicants.

Traction

LocalPay has reported 4x growth over a 30-day period, though the baseline figures were not disclosed publicly. The app maintains a 4.7 out of 5-star rating on the Apple App Store from 123 user reviews. Reviewer feedback notes some concerns about exchange rates and top-up fees, which is a common friction point for stablecoin-to-fiat conversion products.

The company has also launched a content creator program that offers bonuses ranging from $50 to $1,000 for video content reaching 100,000 views, signaling an emphasis on grassroots awareness building in target markets.

Company and Team

LocalPay is operated by LP STABLE TECH INC., a corporation registered in Dover, Delaware. The company was founded by crypto practitioners and digital nomads who experienced firsthand the difficulty of using stablecoins for daily spending in Southeast Asia. No individual founding team names have been disclosed publicly in available materials.

Audit Status

No public security audit has been disclosed in available sources. The non-custodial architecture reduces custodial risk, but the smart contract and payment conversion layer have not been confirmed as audited by a named firm based on available information.

Why Solana

LocalPay's choice of Solana as its underlying chain is directly tied to the product's viability as a payments platform. The combination of near-instant finality, transaction throughput capable of supporting high volumes of small payments, and fee costs that are fractions of a cent makes Solana the only major public chain where the economics of sub-$10 merchant payments work without fee overhead consuming a significant portion of the transaction value. The platform's five-second end-to-end payment experience is only achievable on a chain with Solana's throughput and latency characteristics.
