Gibwork

Gibwork is a freelance and bounty marketplace built natively on Solana, connecting project owners who need work done with workers who get paid in crypto. Tasks and payments are settled through an on-chain Solana escrow program, removing intermediaries from the approval and payment flow. The platform launched as a winner of the 2023 Solana Hyperdrive hackathon, which drew over 7,000 participants, and has since expanded into a full marketplace with a mobile app, a native token, and direct-hire capabilities.

How It Works

Project owners post work in one of three formats:

Standard tasks accept payment in any Solana SPL token. The owner deposits the reward into an on-chain escrow at posting time; funds are released automatically when a submitted deliverable is approved. Payments are primarily denominated in USDC.

Private tasks work the same way but are accessible only via personalized invite links, allowing project owners to restrict applications to a specific pool of workers.

Open-source bounties integrate directly with GitHub. Project owners attach a reward to a GitHub issue; contributors submit pull requests, and the Gibwork bot can tip contributors or release escrowed funds upon merge.

Workers browse listings, submit work, and receive payment on approval. Because funds sit in a Solana escrow program throughout, neither party can unilaterally withdraw them before the agreed conditions are met.

Platform Features

The platform has a mobile app available on iOS and Android. A recent update added profile pages that display a worker's skills, completed bounties, and total earnings — giving project owners a verifiable track record to evaluate before reaching out. Projects can now find freelancers directly, message them, and hire without the worker needing to apply to a listing, enabling a direct-hire model alongside the standard task feed.

An in-built, non-custodial wallet with private key backup ships inside the mobile app. Gibwork also integrates with Decaf, which lets workers convert USDC earnings to fiat directly through the wallet.

Workers must verify via phone number or X account to qualify for participation rewards, a measure designed to limit Sybil activity in the rewards program.

$WORK Token and Revenue Sharing

$WORK is Gibwork's native token. Holders unlock premium platform features and participate in seasonal revenue distributions. The revenue-sharing model allocates 80% of collected platform fees to active stakers and participants, with 20% retained for operations.

Distributions run in 12-week "Seasons." Within each season, participants earn points based on activity — 2 points per USDC awarded to a worker, 1 point per USDC earned. A tiered payout structure concentrates rewards toward top contributors: the top 10% of earners receive 50% of the distributed pool, the next 20% receive 30%, and the remaining participants split 20%. A loyalty multiplier starts at 5% and scales up to 100% over successive weeks of consistent participation.

The referral program pays out 50% of the platform fee generated by referred users, providing an additional income stream for community members who bring new participants.

Ecosystem and Status

Gibwork has partnership acknowledgements from the Solana Foundation and Dean's List. The platform's Terms of Service were last updated February 2026, and community activity on X as of August 2026 shows active posting, user testimonials, and app update announcements — including the profile and wallet features described above. The platform continues to host live bounties denominated in USDC and other SPL tokens, including integrations with ecosystem projects such as solana-agent-kit.
