Gibwork

Gibwork (gib.work) is a bounty and freelance marketplace on Solana. It is not the Gibraltar job board at gibwork.com. People and projects post small paid jobs, called bounties. Workers complete them and get paid in crypto, mostly the USDC stablecoin.

The person posting a bounty pays the reward in up front. It sits in a Solana escrow program, which is code that holds the money until the poster approves the work. Gibwork runs on the web and as a mobile app for iOS and Android. The project started at the 2023 Solana Hyperdrive hackathon and was still posting new bounties in October 2026.

How Gibwork bounties and USDC escrow work

A Gibwork bounty is a job with the reward already paid in. The poster writes a brief, picks a reward and funds it before the bounty goes live. Gibwork's terms of service, last updated on 1 August 2026, say the deposit goes into "the Solana escrow program" and is released to the worker when the client approves the submitted work.

Creating a bounty takes four steps, per the bounty creation guide: sign in, describe the work, set the reward and options, then fund and publish. You choose the token and whether the bounty is public or private. A private bounty is reached only through a link you share.

For a worker the flow is short. You pick a bounty, read the requirements, and send in your work with the proof the poster asked for. The poster decides how long the review takes. In the words of the participation guide, "your submission needs approval before you earn the bounty reward."

The homepage listed work in categories such as content, design, development, social media, web research and data enrichment in October 2026. Some bounties were open to verified accounts only. You verify an account by adding a phone number or connecting an X account.

The Gibwork app for iOS and Android: sign up, profiles and payouts

The Gibwork app lets you find bounties, submit work and track earnings from a phone. It is published on the App Store as "Gibwork: Work & Get Paid USDC" by Programa Labs LLC, and it is also on Google Play. Gibwork's own guide now tells new workers to start by downloading the app.

The App Store version history shows steady releases in 2026. An August update added worker profiles. A 1 September update added rich-text formatting, image attachments and the ability to edit a submission. Two bug-fix releases followed later in September.

Approved earnings show up in your account, with payout instructions in the app. If you want local currency, the docs describe a Decaf integration. You link the email on your Decaf wallet account in Gibwork's settings, withdraw rewards to it, and use Decaf's ramps to turn them into fiat.

GitHub bounties and tipping for open-source work

Gibwork began as a tool for paying open-source contributors, and that path still exists. A maintainer attaches a USDC reward to a piece of work. A developer forks the repository, works in a branch whose name starts with "gib-", and submits a pull request. When the maintainer approves it, the USDC is released.

Maintainers can also tip without setting up a bounty. Commenting "@gibworkbot tip @username" on GitHub sends a tip, per the tipping docs. The contributor gets a link, verifies their identity and connects a wallet to claim it. Tips are in USDC only.

Most of the bounties Gibwork promoted on X in September and October 2026 were content and social tasks, such as writing a thread or recording a short video about a product. Developers should expect fewer code bounties than marketing ones.

Fees, Gibwork Plus and the referral program

Gibwork charges a platform fee on transactions, but it does not publish the rate in its docs or terms. The terms add that subscription tiers "such as Gibwork Plus" may offer reduced fees. We could not find a public price or feature list for Plus, so check the fee shown in the app before you fund a bounty.

The referral program pays you 50% of the platform fee from each person you bring in. A referral counts once that person either gets paid for a bounty or creates one. Payouts are in USDC to the wallet on your account.

Gibwork also runs fixed referral promotions on single bounties. One October 2026 bounty offered a share of $300 for a video about the app, plus $15 for referring a creator, according to Gibwork's post on X.

Is Gibwork legit? Reviews and track record

Gibwork is a real, operating product with a three-year history, though its public review record is thin. The Solana Foundation listed "Gib Work" as an honorable mention in the Crypto Infrastructure track when it announced the Hyperdrive winners on 3 November 2023. It did not win a prize.

Signs of current activity are easy to find. In early October 2026 the website showed open bounties with deadlines weeks ahead. The app had been updated in late September. Gibwork's X account was posting every day.

Independent reviews are scarce. In early October 2026 the App Store listing showed a 4.9 rating, but from only 18 ratings. Trustpilot had a single review. That is too small a sample to tell you much. Payment stories shared by users on X are mostly for small sums.

Who Gibwork is best for

Gibwork suits people who want small, one-off crypto-paid tasks and already use, or are willing to set up, a Solana wallet. It fits content creators, designers and testers who can turn a brief around quickly. You need to be 18 or older and outside sanctioned countries, per the terms.

It is a weaker fit if you need steady income. Many bounties are contests with a fixed prize pool, so you can do the work and earn nothing. Rewards on the bounties we saw ranged from a few dollars to a few hundred.

For a project, Gibwork works well for getting many small pieces of content, feedback or testing done at once. It suits long engagements less, because the platform is built around single deliverables.

Risks: disputes, the escrow program and your data

The main risk for workers is that the client alone decides whether work is approved. Gibwork's terms say it acts as a facilitator, not an arbiter. Escrow proves the money exists, a point Gibwork makes when it says bounties are "100% funded upfront". Escrow does not force a client to pay for work they reject.

Other points to weigh:

• We found no public audit of the escrow program. Gibwork's GitHub organisation has no public escrow program repository, and its docs do not list a program address, so we could not check who can upgrade the code.
• The terms let Gibwork suspend an account with or without notice for violations, and say this can lead to "forfeiture of any escrowed funds."
• The platform is provided "as is". The terms disclaim liability for smart contract flaws and blockchain risks, and disputes go to binding arbitration under US law.
• The App Store privacy label says the app collects device identifiers used for tracking, and links your email, name and user ID to you. The privacy policy names PostHog for analytics and Stripe for payments.

WORK token and revenue sharing

WORK is Gibwork's native token. The token docs link to a Solana mint that was created through pump.fun. They describe holder benefits only in general terms: premium content, advanced features and special offers. They give no supply or allocation figures.

The docs also describe a revenue share paid out in 12-week seasons. Under it, 80% of platform revenue would go to people who stake WORK and to active users. Gibwork would keep the rest.

This plan looks unfinished. Season 0 is labelled a draft, carries dates from early 2025, and is marked "not yet distributed". Season 1 is listed as "TBD". The Season 0 draft would split the shared revenue roughly in half between WORK stakers and verified users ranked by points. That split is a proposal on paper.

The token is absent from the terms of service updated in August 2026. Gibwork's X posts in September and October 2026 were about USDC payouts and did not mention WORK.

Gibwork alternatives on Solana

The closest alternative is Superteam Earn, run by Superteam. It lists bounties, freelance projects and grants from crypto companies on one site. Gibwork's edge is its mobile app and its many small tasks that a beginner can try.

Mainstream freelance sites are a better fit for long contracts. With Gibwork you get fast payouts in crypto. In return you have less cover if a client turns down your work.

Team and history

Gibwork was built at a Solana hackathon in late 2023. Its docs call it a place "where people create bounties, contribute their skills, and earn crypto."

The first version paid open-source coders through GitHub. The focus has since moved to the mobile app, and to content, testing and social tasks paid in USDC.

The App Store names Programa Labs LLC as the maker of the app. Gibwork's terms and privacy policy do not name a company. The docs do not list the team.
