Blockroll
Blockroll is a financial services platform for Nigerian gig workers and freelancers that enables multi-currency wallet management, digital payments, and bill payment services. Users can manage fiat and cryptocurrencies like NGN, USD, USDC and USDT in one application, send and receive payments globally, pay bills and buy airtime, and create professional invoices. The platform combines traditional banking capabilities with digital currency support to simplify financial management for remote workers.
Blockroll
Blockroll is a multi-currency payments and digital banking platform built for African freelancers, remote workers, and independent creators navigating the global gig economy. Founded in April 2023 and incorporated as a Delaware company, the platform launched first as a web application in March 2024 before releasing iOS and Android apps in mid-2025. Its primary focus is Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, where cross-border payment friction, limited banking access, and volatile local currencies create persistent challenges for professionals earning in foreign currencies.
The Problem It Solves
African freelancers and remote workers earn globally but live locally. Traditional banking rails such as SWIFT transfers carry high fees and multi-day delays. Popular Western platforms like PayPal remain restricted or impractical across much of Africa. Meanwhile, currency devaluation, particularly of the Nigerian Naira, erodes earnings when workers hold local currency while waiting to convert.
Blockroll was founded by CEO Sadiq Isiaka and co-founder Stephen Adeyemo, who identified this pain point in late 2022. Isiaka, a product manager with a background in UX research and technical writing, and Adeyemo, an experienced fintech product builder, set out to create a platform bridging global earnings and local financial life. The company was accepted into the Toronet Incubation Program in August 2023 and selected into Circle's USDC Grant Program in July 2024, providing early institutional support within both the blockchain and stablecoin infrastructure ecosystems.
How It Works
Blockroll operates as a non-bank financial platform, partnering with licensed and authorized financial institutions rather than holding a banking license itself. Users register and complete a KYC process, then access a multi-currency dashboard where they manage Nigerian Naira (NGN), US dollars (USD), euros (EUR), USDC, and USDT simultaneously.
The core value proposition is seamless conversion between fiat currencies and stablecoins. When a client abroad sends a payment, Blockroll allows the recipient to hold funds in USD or stablecoins rather than converting to Naira immediately, protecting against local currency depreciation. When the user needs local currency for bills or daily expenses, they can convert on their own schedule at competitive rates. The platform covers gas fees on behalf of users, removing the technical complexity of blockchain transactions from the end-user experience entirely.
Solana Integration
Solana is one of the blockchain networks Blockroll uses to power its stablecoin rails, alongside Polygon, Base, and Aptos. In April 2025, the Blockroll engineering team completed an end-to-end conversion of Nigerian Naira to USDC on Solana and back to Naira, a milestone that validated Solana infrastructure for Africa-focused on/off-ramp flows. A freelancer in Lagos can receive a USDC payment over Solana without needing to understand gas costs or manage a non-custodial wallet, because Blockroll handles the underlying mechanics and abstracts the blockchain layer away.
The platform's Circle partnership, formalized through the USDC Grant Program, reflects its alignment with USDC as its primary stablecoin standard. Blockroll is listed in the Circle Alliance Directory as a stablecoin-powered payments partner focused on the Middle East and Africa region.
Features
Blockroll packages its financial infrastructure into several user-facing tools. Multi-currency wallets let users hold and manage NGN, USD, EUR, USDC, and USDT from a single dashboard with real-time analytics on spending and income. The Limitless Card is a virtual and physical USD Visa card accepted for online purchases and global subscriptions. Smart Invoicing provides customizable invoices that let freelancers bill clients in any supported currency and collect payment faster. Pay Tag enables instant free transfers between Blockroll users via a username-style handle, removing the need to share wallet addresses or bank details. Bills Payment covers utility bills, mobile airtime top-ups, and data purchases paid directly in-app for Nigerian household expenses. Bio-Hub is a unified public profile linking all of a user's online presence, designed to help freelancers present themselves professionally to prospective clients. The platform also includes payment request tools and a consolidated transaction history dashboard.
Security and Compliance
Blockroll applies end-to-end encryption to all user data and transactions, supplemented by fraud prevention systems. KYC verification is required for all accounts, consistent with the compliance requirements of its licensed financial institution partners. Rather than operating as a bank, Blockroll functions as a technology and payments layer on top of regulated entities, a structure that allows it to offer banking-grade services while working within regional regulatory frameworks.
Solana Fit
Blockroll's use of Solana reflects the network's strengths in high-throughput, low-cost payment infrastructure. For users in Nigeria and across Africa, where fee sensitivity is high and micro-transactions are common, Solana's sub-cent transaction costs and near-instant finality make it a practical choice over slower or more expensive alternatives. The multi-chain approach, also covering Polygon, Base, and Aptos, provides routing flexibility, but Solana's combination of speed and low fees positions it as a natural match for the remittance and freelance payment patterns that define Blockroll's core use case. As of mid-2025, Blockroll has surpassed 1,000 users and is focused on expanding beyond Nigeria into Kenya and other Sub-Saharan African markets.
