About

GeCrypto

GeCrypto is a licensed over-the-counter cryptocurrency exchange operating from a physical office in central Tbilisi, Georgia. Founded in 2022 and licensed by the National Bank of Georgia as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) in March 2024, GeCrypto serves individual and corporate clients seeking to move value between crypto assets and traditional fiat currency in a regulated, in-person setting.

How It Works

GeCrypto's model is built around four service tracks:

  • Crypto to Cash — clients visit GeCrypto's office at 5 Kote Marjanishvili Street, complete a short KYC check, and exchange cryptocurrency for USD, EUR, or GEL Georgian Lari on the spot. Same-day settlement is standard.
  • Crypto to Bank Account — digital asset proceeds can be wired to Georgian banks (instant) or to international accounts via SWIFT, SEPA, or ACH (one to three business days).
  • Crypto to Crypto — an OTC desk executes swaps between supported assets with no order book or slippage exposure, pricing agreed before execution.
  • Crypto for Business — corporate clients handling large volumes receive dedicated account managers, volume pricing, and full AML documentation for accounting and compliance purposes.

The three-step client flow is intentionally simple: verify identity with a passport or national ID, place an order specifying the asset pair and amount, and receive funds by the agreed delivery method. The company reports completing over 15,000 transactions since 2023 and serving more than 10,000 registered clients.

Supported Assets

GeCrypto currently supports five digital assets: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Tether (USDT), and USD Coin (USDC). Fiat settlement is available in US dollars (cash at office), euros, and Georgian lari. Common OTC pairs include BTC/USDT, ETH/USDT, and SOL/USDT. The company can accommodate additional pairs on request for institutional-scale transactions.

Solana on GeCrypto

Solana (SOL) is listed as a first-class supported asset alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum. Clients can sell SOL for Georgian lari, US dollars, or euros in cash or via bank transfer, and can buy SOL for fiat at the OTC desk. SOL is also available as a crypto-to-crypto swap counterpart via USDT. This makes GeCrypto one of a small number of licensed physical exchange points in the South Caucasus region where SOL can be bought or sold for cash.

Regulatory Status and Compliance

GeCrypto holds VASP license number 0018-9404, issued by the National Bank of Georgia under Georgia's VASP regulatory framework, which entered force on September 1, 2023. The company registration number is 405607400. The framework mandates AML and counter-terrorism financing controls, transaction monitoring, and suspicious activity reporting. GeCrypto publishes its AML/KYC Policy, Terms and Conditions, and Privacy Policy on its website. Transactions above relevant thresholds require full documentation, which the company provides to clients on request to support their own banking and tax compliance.

Georgia's crypto regulatory environment is notable in the region for its relative clarity: VASP licensing is required for exchange operations and the National Bank of Georgia acts as the supervising authority. GeCrypto holds one of the small number of formal VASP licenses issued in Tbilisi, a city that has attracted a significant community of crypto-active residents and digital nomads since 2022.

Team and Operations

GeCrypto has not publicly disclosed founder or leadership names. The company operates from a fixed address in the Marjanishvili district of Tbilisi, with walk-in hours daily from 11am to 3pm and 4pm to 9pm. Customer support is available via Telegram (@gecrypto_tbilisi), WhatsApp, phone, and email. The platform is offered in English, Georgian, and Russian.

Education and Content

GeCrypto publishes a regularly updated English-language blog covering practical crypto topics relevant to Georgian residents and international users: seed phrase security, mining in Georgia, blockchain security history, Bitcoin valuation mechanics, the halving cycle, using crypto during international relocation, and how Georgian banks process inbound crypto exchange proceeds. Post frequency as of mid-2026 runs to several articles per month, indicating an operationally active business.

Ecosystem Context

GeCrypto occupies a niche as a fiat on/off-ramp for the South Caucasus region. The exchange does not operate a hosted custody wallet, an exchange order book, or a native token. It is not a DeFi protocol or liquidity pool, but rather a regulated intermediary that lets holders of Solana and other major assets convert to fiat or other crypto through a licensed, face-to-face process. For Solana holders in Georgia or visitors to Tbilisi, GeCrypto provides one of the few regulated, cash-settlement routes available in the region.
