About

FiveWest

FiveWest is a South African fintech company founded in 2020 that operates as regulated settlement infrastructure for cross-border capital movement between Africa, Asia, and major global markets. The company positions itself as "the trusted infrastructure layer for cross-border capital movement in Africa and Asia," building enterprise-grade payments and digital asset services on top of a comprehensive South African regulatory stack.

Regulatory Foundation

FiveWest holds one of the broadest regulatory portfolios in the South African crypto and payments space. The company is an authorised Financial Services Provider under the FSCA with licence number 51619, holds a mandate from the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) for international payments, operates as a PASA Systems Operator and Third-Party Payment Provider, maintains Primary FIC (Financial Intelligence Centre) accountable institution standing, and holds an ODP (Over-the-counter Derivative Provider) licence.

That regulatory depth carries real-world weight. When Binance needed to relaunch crypto derivatives in South Africa after suspending them following a 2021 FSCA warning, it did so by making Brickhouse Trading Ltd — a Binance group member — a juristic representative operating under FiveWest's FSP 51619 licence. South African Binance users trading futures do so through this arrangement, making FiveWest the silent regulatory infrastructure behind the country's largest crypto exchange's derivatives business.

Core Products

OTC Desk — FiveWest's primary revenue product facilitates large-volume digital asset trades directly between counterparties off public exchange order books. The desk supports USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH, SOL, and other major cryptocurrencies quoted against ZAR and 34 additional fiat currencies spanning Africa, Asia, and major global pairs. Minimum ticket size starts at USD 500 with no stated upper limit. The desk provides pre-agreed pricing, eliminating slippage and automated routing that affects exchange execution. ZAR settlements complete in under five minutes where available. Target users include enterprises running cross-border payroll, treasury teams managing multi-currency exposure, and high-frequency remittance operators moving volume through African corridors including NGN (Nigerian Naira), KES (Kenyan Shilling), and GHS (Ghanaian Cedi).

Earn — FiveWest offers yield on idle assets held on its platform, including ZAR, USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH, and SOL. Advertised returns reach up to 10% APY with no lock-up fees and daily yield crediting. The product is aimed at businesses sitting on treasury balances between settlements rather than retail yield-farmers. FiveWest charges no fees on the Earn product, with returns generated from the company's lending and liquidity activities.

ZAR Payouts — Automated conversion and payout of digital assets into South African Rand with regulatory compliance handling built in. The service targets companies that receive payments in stablecoins or crypto and need to distribute funds to South African employees or suppliers in local currency without running their own compliance infrastructure.

Collections — Multi-currency collection in ZAR, EUR, and USD, enabling businesses to receive payments from customers across multiple geographies and currency pairs without setting up local entity structures in each market.

Payment Gateway — Allows merchants to accept cryptocurrency as payment, with settlement occurring in ZAR on the back end. Merchants receive rand rather than crypto, insulating them from price volatility while gaining access to customers who prefer to pay with digital assets.

LZAR Stablecoin

In May 2025, FiveWest launched LZAR in partnership with Lisk, a ZAR-backed stablecoin targeting financial inclusion across African markets. LZAR runs on Lisk's blockchain infrastructure rather than Solana, chosen for its low transaction costs and near-instant settlement. The token is fully backed by South African Rand reserves and distributed through the FW Money Application.

LZAR is designed around three use cases: cross-border remittances as a lower-cost alternative to traditional money transfer operators, merchant payments with early adoption at Cape Town businesses, and savings accounts earning up to 10% APY. Peer-to-peer transfers carry zero fees within the FiveWest ecosystem. The stablecoin represents FiveWest's push into consumer-facing fintech beyond its existing enterprise settlement business.

Solana in the FiveWest Stack

Solana's native token SOL is listed across FiveWest's primary products. Users can buy and sell SOL through the OTC desk against ZAR and 34 other currencies, and hold SOL in the Earn product to generate yield. FiveWest is not a Solana-native protocol — the company's architecture is off-chain settlement infrastructure, and its LZAR stablecoin runs on Lisk — but SOL is treated as a first-class asset alongside BTC, ETH, and the major stablecoins throughout the product suite.

For Solana holders in Africa or enterprises with treasury exposure to SOL, FiveWest offers a regulated, ZAR-settled on- and off-ramp that operates outside the retail exchange environment.

Market Context

FiveWest operates in a high-growth corridor. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for roughly 43% of all crypto transaction volume in the region by stablecoin share. Cross-border payment costs out of Africa remain among the highest globally, typically 6 to 8 percent for remittances, which FiveWest and competitors are targeting with crypto rail alternatives. The company's membership in the Crypto Asset Association of South Africa (CAASA) and its presence as a sponsor at the Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS) underscore its positioning within the established South African digital asset industry.

The Binance juristic representative arrangement is the clearest signal of FiveWest's regulatory standing: it functions as the compliance wrapper through which one of the world's largest crypto exchanges accesses the South African derivatives market. That relationship places FiveWest closer to the infrastructure category than to the product or protocol category, despite its consumer-facing Earn and stablecoin products.
