Dework

Dework is a web3-native project management platform built for DAOs and decentralized teams. It lets organizations post tasks with attached cryptocurrency bounties, manage contributor workflows, and issue verifiable on-chain work credentials—positioning itself as a decentralized alternative to tools like Trello and Asana for crypto-native communities. Founded in 2021 by Lonis Hamaili and David Fant and backed by a USD 5 million seed round led by Paradigm, Dework was acquired by Thrive Protocol in July 2025 and continues to operate at app.dework.xyz.

Core Mechanism

Dework operates as a task board where organizations publish work items with attached crypto bounties. Contributors participate through three claiming modes: open (first-come-first-served), application-based (contributors pitch before being assigned), and gated (access restricted by token balance or Discord role). When a task is completed and approved, payment flows directly from the organization's connected wallet to the contributor's address—no Dework-controlled escrow contract holds the funds at any point.

Each payment is an immutable on-chain transaction. Dework aggregates these into contributor profiles that function as portable, verifiable work histories: a contributor can prove exactly which DAOs hired them, what tasks they completed, and what they were paid, without depending on any single organization's attestation. This credential layer persists independently of the contributor's relationship with any one project.

Task and Workspace Structure

Organizations structure work in a three-level hierarchy: top-level organizations contain projects (equivalent to repositories or workstreams), which contain individual tasks. Tasks carry skill tags, due dates, priority ratings, and optional bounties denominated in any supported token. Bounties can be fixed-price or open to bids. Multiple reviewers can be assigned to a single task, and subtasks are supported within parent tasks.

Cryptocurrency Payments and Batch Settlement

Any on-chain token is supported as payment currency, including DAO-native governance tokens. For organizations using a multi-sig treasury, Dework integrates with Gnosis Safe to batch-approve and execute multiple contributor payments in a single on-chain transaction. USDC pegging is available to protect contributors from token price volatility during the task review window. By 2025 the platform had processed over USD 1.2 million in cumulative bounty payouts across its user base.

Access Control and Token Gating

Task visibility and claiming rights can be restricted to wallets holding specific tokens or to Discord members with particular role assignments. This lets DAOs run internal contributor programs alongside public bounty campaigns within the same workspace, segmenting work by contributor trust level without requiring separate tooling.

Integrations

Discord receives two-way sync: task updates post to designated channels and Discord thread discussions are mirrored back to the task timeline. GitHub integration syncs issues and pull requests bidirectionally, keeping engineering bounties aligned with the codebase tracker. Notion and Trello import pipelines allow organizations to migrate existing backlogs without manual re-entry. Supported wallet connections include MetaMask, Phantom, WalletConnect, and Hiro.

Public Bounty Board

Beyond private organizational workspaces, Dework maintains a public bounty board at app.dework.xyz/bounties aggregating open tasks across all participating organizations. Independent contributors can browse by skill, payment token, or organization to find paid work without a prior DAO relationship.

Tokens and Assets

Dework has no native protocol token. The platform is payment-agnostic across more than 20 supported blockchain networks. Phantom wallet integration makes the platform accessible to Solana-native organizations and contributors without requiring cross-chain bridging. SPL tokens can serve as bounty denominations, making the platform viable for Solana-based DAOs that pay in SOL, Solana-native USDC, or custom SPL tokens. Gnosis Safe batch payment support lets multi-sig treasuries disburse to dozens of contributors in a single transaction, reducing overhead for high-frequency bounty programs.

Security and Architecture

Dework keeps bounty funds in the organization's own wallet or multi-sig until the moment of payment approval. There are no Dework-controlled escrow contracts holding contributor funds at rest, which eliminates protocol-level smart contract custody risk but places execution responsibility on the approving organization. No formal public security audits of Dework-specific contracts have been disclosed, consistent with the platform's minimal on-chain footprint.

Team and History

Dework was founded in 2021 by Lonis Hamaili (CEO) and David Fant (co-founder) and is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Hamaili was previously an early engineering contributor to CityDAO before launching Dework; Fant co-founded two other ventures, Godmode and Just Football.

In June 2022, Dework raised USD 5 million in a seed round co-led by Paradigm and Pace Capital, with participation from Balaji Srinivasan (former Coinbase CTO) and Sandeep Nailwal (Polygon co-founder). The fundraise placed Dework among a small number of DAO tooling projects to receive institutional backing during that cycle.

By 2025 the platform supported over 500 active DAOs including AragonDAO, CityDAO, ShapeshiftDAO, and OpenDAO, with monthly unique visitors exceeding 100,000 and a Discord community of approximately 15,000 members.

In July 2025, Dework announced its acquisition by Thrive Protocol, a decentralized grant-making platform that allocates incentives based on verified value-creation milestones. Dework stated that the platform would 'live on, strengthened by Thrive's support, team, and infrastructure,' with user support transitioning to support.thrive.xyz. As of September 2026, app.dework.xyz remains operational and the public bounty board continues to list active tasks.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Phantom wallet support makes Dework accessible to Solana-native organizations and contributors without cross-chain bridging. SPL tokens work as bounty denominations, enabling Solana DAOs to pay contributors in SOL, Solana-native USDC, or custom SPL tokens within the same task management interface used for EVM-chain bounties.

Solana's low transaction fees are particularly relevant to the bounty use case: small-denomination task payments that would be economically unviable on higher-fee networks remain practical on Solana, enabling micro-task compensation and higher bounty velocity for active contributor programs. The platform's multi-chain design also suits cross-chain DAOs whose treasuries span both EVM and Solana networks, allowing a single workspace to run bounties payable in assets from multiple chains simultaneously.
