Cryptonia

Cryptonia is a non-custodial stablecoin exchange built to solve a persistent pain point for Nigerians: converting USDC and USDT to naira quickly, cheaply, and without the counterparty risk that comes with peer-to-peer trading. The platform settles transactions in under ten seconds and charges zero transfer fees, targeting freelancers, remote workers, and Web3 professionals who routinely receive income in digital dollars and need to spend it in local currency.

The Problem Cryptonia Was Built to Solve

Nigeria's foreign exchange market has long been complicated by regulatory restrictions on crypto, high P2P fraud rates, and the delays inherent in manual OTC trading. When the Central Bank of Nigeria lifted its ban on commercial banks servicing crypto businesses in December 2023, it opened a window for a new class of regulated, app-based stablecoin platforms to operate openly.

Oluwasanmi Timilehin — known as Timmy — had spent the prior four years running his own OTC crypto operation, processing more than five million dollars in transactions manually. He built Cryptonia to replace that manual process with a product: faster, safer, and accessible to anyone with a bank account and a crypto wallet.

How the Platform Works

Cryptonia operates on a non-custodial model. When a user wants to off-ramp USDC or USDT to naira, the platform generates a unique wallet address for that session. The user sends their stablecoins from any external wallet to that address. Once the transaction hits the blockchain, Cryptonia processes the conversion and credits naira directly to the user's registered Nigerian bank account — in under ten seconds. The platform takes no custody of funds between the send and the settlement.

The process requires no intermediary holding the user's crypto, no waiting for another party to accept a trade, and no negotiating rates. Exchange rates are published transparently, and there are no hidden transfer charges.

Wallet infrastructure is powered by Blockradar, a Web3 wallet-as-a-service provider. The platform enforces KYC for higher-volume users while allowing conversions up to the equivalent of $500 without a Bank Verification Number, reducing friction for casual users.

Multi-Chain Support with a Solana Core

Cryptonia accepts USDT and USDC across four blockchains: Solana (SPL tokens), Ethereum (ERC-20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), and Tron (TRC-20). Users can send from any of these networks and still receive naira in the same sub-ten-second window.

Solana has emerged as the dominant chain on the platform. By April 2025, Solana overtook Tron as Cryptonia's most-utilized network, accounting for roughly 40 percent of total volume and more than $200,000 in monthly transactions. The platform received a $3,000 USDC grant from Superteam Nigeria, Solana's regional grants program, in recognition of its role building financial infrastructure on the network. Solana's official account on X featured Cryptonia as a showcase project, describing it as minimizing "the fraud and delay risks common in P2P markets."

Cryptonia's presence in the Circle Alliance Program — added January 29, 2025 — reflects its integration of USDC as a primary settlement asset. The Circle listing categorizes Cryptonia across exchanges, fintechs, OTC desks, payments, and remittances, and lists Solana and Algorand among its supported blockchains.

Growth and Milestones

The platform launched on Android on January 10, 2025, followed by an iOS release on January 24, 2025. Within the first months of operation:

  • Cumulative USDT/USDC trades crossed $5 million by March 2025, the same total Timmy had processed across four years of manual OTC work
  • Monthly transaction volume reached $300,000 in April 2025, a 50 percent increase over the prior benchmark
  • More than 2,000 users were active on the app by May 2025
  • The platform maintained 24/7 liquidity availability throughout its launch period

Cryptonia has pursued strategic integrations beyond pure off-ramping. In March 2025, the platform partnered with Autorush, enabling vehicle purchases to be settled in USDT or USDC — an example of expanding stablecoin utility into everyday commerce. The same month, it launched Cryptonia Corps, a community ambassador program designed to extend its reach across Nigeria.

Target Users

Cryptonia targets three overlapping segments of the Nigerian market. The first is the remote worker and freelancer population that receives payments from foreign clients in stablecoins and needs to convert regularly. The second is the Web3 professional community — developers, designers, community managers — who earn in crypto and live in naira. The third is small businesses and individuals who use stablecoins as a store of value and need reliable access to local currency liquidity.

For all three groups, the platform's core proposition is speed and reliability over P2P alternatives, where fraud, payment disputes, and delays are common. The non-custodial architecture addresses the trust problem: users never hand assets to a counterparty who might disappear.

Rebrand to Evolution

In April 2026, Cryptonia rebranded as Evolution and secured a US Federal Money Services Business license from FinCEN. The legal entity behind the platform, Evolution Consultancy Limited, had already appeared in Circle's Alliance Directory as Cryptonia's support contact. The rebrand signals an expansion in scope — from a Nigeria-focused stablecoin off-ramp to a broader financial infrastructure play for global citizens in emerging markets. The platform continues to operate the same core stablecoin-to-naira service that defined Cryptonia, now under regulatory cover that opens doors to US-connected payment flows.

Significance on Solana

Cryptonia represents a category of Solana adoption that differs from DeFi protocols or NFT marketplaces: practical, fiat-bridging financial infrastructure in a market where blockchain's speed and low transaction costs solve a real problem that legacy banking cannot. The fact that Solana displaced Tron — historically dominant in African stablecoin flows due to low fees — as Cryptonia's top network underscores how Solana's economics and developer ecosystem are penetrating the African fintech layer. For the broader Solana ecosystem, Cryptonia-style off-ramps increase the real-world utility of Solana-native stablecoins in one of the world's largest crypto user bases by country.
