What Is Coinify

Coinify is a B2B cryptocurrency payment and trading infrastructure company headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 2014 by Hans Henrik Hoffmeyer and Mark Hojgaard, the company has grown into one of Europe's most established virtual asset service providers, positioning itself as the back-end layer that lets businesses and platforms plug crypto payment acceptance and trading into their existing products without building compliance, settlement, or banking relationships from scratch.

The platform self-describes as "#1 in Europe" for crypto payment infrastructure and operates across more than 170 countries, serving over 60,000 businesses and 65 global payment service providers. Its registered trader base exceeds 2.5 million users.

How It Works

Coinify offers three distinct product lines that address different points in the crypto commerce chain.

Payment Solutions are aimed at merchants who want to accept cryptocurrency at checkout. Coinify bills this as a "plug-and-play" integration requiring as little as a single line of code. Once integrated, merchants receive a settlement option in fiat or crypto, while Coinify handles the complexity of payment routing, currency conversion, and compliance checks. Notable commercial customers include luxury brands such as Balenciaga and institutional trading platforms including Gate.io.

Trade Solutions package Coinify's on-ramp and off-ramp capabilities into a white-label trade widget that can be embedded inside third-party wallets, exchanges, NFT marketplaces, and DeFi platforms. This is how Coinify's infrastructure reaches the broadest end-user audience: not as a consumer-facing product but as a licensed component that wallet providers and crypto apps drop into their own interfaces. The widget supports more than 35 crypto tokens across more than 20 blockchains, with users able to buy and sell using a range of local payment methods.

Corporate Trading and Coinify+ is an OTC desk offering high-touch service for larger block transactions, intended for institutional clients and corporate treasuries that need to execute sizable cryptocurrency trades without moving markets.

Supported Assets and Blockchains

Coinify spans a wide cross-chain footprint. Bitcoin and Ethereum are core assets, and the platform has steadily expanded its token listings. Recent additions include XRP (May 2025) and Internet Computer Protocol's ICP token (March 2025). On the stablecoin side, Coinify added USDC settlement across Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base in April 2025, extending its reach into Ethereum Layer-2 infrastructure. Apple Pay was integrated as a fiat payment method for crypto purchases in late 2024.

With coverage across more than 20 blockchains and a stated goal of multi-chain payment infrastructure, Coinify's trade widget is deployed inside wallets that serve Solana users, making it one of the fiat on-ramp and off-ramp layers accessible within the broader Solana ecosystem.

Compliance and Regulatory Framework

Compliance is the central differentiating claim Coinify makes to potential business customers. The company holds two primary regulatory registrations: with the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) under Denmark's Anti-Money Laundering Act, and with the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). It has also obtained authorization under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) as a crypto-asset service provider—a significant credential given MiCAR's breadth and the compliance burden it places on EU-based virtual asset businesses.

Coinify played a direct role in shaping European crypto regulation as a founding member of the Blockchain and Virtual Currencies Working Group under the European Commission. The company has also been a signatory of the UN Global Compact since 2019, publishing annual progress reports covering human rights, labor, environmental, and anti-corruption commitments.

KYC and AML procedures include government-issued photo ID verification, proof of address, corporate documentation for business accounts, and ongoing screening against global sanctions lists and government watchlists. For merchants integrating via API, Coinify manages most of this compliance burden on the platform side—a key selling point for businesses entering crypto payments without a dedicated compliance team.

History and Ownership

Coinify's ownership history is notable. The company bootstrapped through early-stage funding rounds beginning in 2014, raising approximately 18.3 million dollars across six rounds from investors including Seed Capital, SEB, Accelerace, and Fiftyfive Capital.

Along the way, Coinify itself made strategic acquisitions to consolidate early European crypto payment infrastructure: it acquired BIPS in 2014, Coinzone in 2015, and BetterCoins in 2018.

In August 2021, US crypto brokerage Voyager Digital acquired Coinify for approximately 85 million dollars in a combined cash and stock deal, citing the company's merchant network and European regulatory standing. That relationship ended abruptly when Voyager Digital filed for bankruptcy in mid-2022 during the broader crypto market downturn.

In May 2023, Coinify was acquired by Marketcom Software Ltd, a company owned by Israeli technology entrepreneur Teddy Sagi whose portfolio includes major iGaming and fintech holdings. The acquisition was framed as a strategic expansion of Marketcom's global payment technology investments, with Coinify continuing to operate independently under the new ownership structure. As of early 2026, Coinify employs approximately 26 people.

Team

Leadership under Marketcom includes Co-CEO Minghui Shan, who brings over a decade of fintech experience including prior CFO roles and holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration with CMA certification. The company's founders built the original infrastructure that became one of Europe's first regulated crypto payment businesses, with team members having worked in digital currencies since as early as 2010.

Solana Ecosystem Role

Coinify enters the Solana ecosystem as payment and trading infrastructure rather than as a protocol or application built natively on Solana. Its trade widget is embedded in wallets and platforms that serve Solana users, providing the fiat entry and exit ramps that let users convert between local currencies and crypto assets. As Coinify expands its multi-chain coverage across more than 20 blockchains and continues adding stablecoin settlement paths, its infrastructure increasingly touches assets and users who interact with the Solana network.

The continued expansion into Layer-2 stablecoin settlement—USDC on Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base—signals Coinify's direction: extending payment-grade infrastructure to wherever on-chain activity is concentrated, rather than tying its fortunes to any single blockchain.
