bloXroute Labs is a blockchain infrastructure company that operates a global Blockchain Distribution Network (BDN) — a system of bare-metal relay nodes and software gateways designed to accelerate transaction propagation across peer-to-peer blockchain networks. On Solana, bloXroute offers Optimized Feed Relays (OFRs), a product line that helps traders, market makers, and DeFi protocols land transactions faster than the native Turbine propagation system.

The Problem

Blockchain networks propagate transactions through peer-to-peer gossip — each node relays messages to its neighbors, who relay to theirs. This process introduces latency proportional to the number of hops between the sender and the validators who will include the transaction. For time-sensitive DeFi operations (arbitrage, liquidations, MEV-sensitive trades), latency measured in fractions of a second can determine whether an execution is profitable.

How bloXroute Works

bloXroute operates a dedicated relay network separate from each blockchain's standard gossip layer. Its nodes are deployed in data centers colocated with major validators — physically close to the machines that process transactions. When a transaction or shred (Solana's unit of block data) is submitted through a bloXroute gateway, the network forwards it through bare-metal relays to destination validators using optimized routing rather than public internet gossip. The result is reduced latency for time-critical transaction delivery.

Solana: Optimized Feed Relays (OFRs)

OFRs are bloXroute's Solana-specific product. They propagate Solana shreds — the fragments of block data that validators use to reconstruct the full block — faster than Turbine, Solana's native shred propagation protocol.

In benchmarking published by bloXroute, OFRs achieved a P90 landing time of 1.414 seconds versus Jito Direct's 2.136 seconds for the same transaction delivery task. Across the full performance distribution, OFRs outperformed Turbine approximately 98% of the time in the measured test conditions. Drift Protocol is among the DeFi protocols that have integrated bloXroute's Solana infrastructure.

Founder Team and Backing

bloXroute was founded in 2017 by Dr. Uri Klarman (CEO), Eyal Markovich (COO), Professor Aleksandar Kuzmanovic (Northwestern University, computer networking), and Professor Emin Gün Sirer (Cornell University, distributed systems — also co-founder of Avalanche). The academic founding team brings significant networking and distributed systems research expertise to the core engineering challenge bloXroute addresses.

bloXroute raised $98 million in a Series B round led by SoftBank Vision Fund in April 2022. More than 350 DeFi trading firms use bloXroute's infrastructure according to available reporting.

Multi-Chain Coverage

bloXroute's BDN spans multiple blockchains including Ethereum, BNB Chain, Base, Hyperliquid, and Solana. The same relay infrastructure supports all chains, though each chain requires chain-specific gateway software and routing logic.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

bloXroute occupies the MEV and transaction infrastructure layer of the Solana ecosystem — the same competitive space as Jito's validator client and tip infrastructure. The two products are not mutually exclusive: trading firms can use OFRs for shred propagation while also routing through Jito for block building. bloXroute's advantage is its global relay infrastructure and latency benchmarks; Jito's advantage is its integration with Solana's largest block-building pool and its MEV tooling in the validator client.
