About

OKX

OKX is one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges and a vertically integrated Web3 technology platform, combining a centralized trading venue with a non-custodial multi-chain wallet, DEX aggregator, on-chain earning products, and a developer ecosystem — serving both retail and institutional users across centralized and decentralized finance.

Origins and Background

OKX traces its roots to 2013, when Star Xu founded Okcoin in China as a Bitcoin exchange. In 2017 the platform expanded internationally and relaunched as OKEx, introducing a broader asset selection and derivatives markets. In January 2022, OKEx rebranded to OKX, signaling a strategic shift from pure trading venue toward an integrated Web3 company. As of 2025, OKX reports over 50 million users globally and maintains offices in more than ten countries, with key operational hubs in Malta (EU), Singapore, Dubai, and the United States.

Centralized Exchange: Trading Products

The OKX centralized exchange supports over 350 cryptocurrencies and 700+ spot trading pairs, covering Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, and a broad range of altcoins and ecosystem tokens. Base spot trading fees start at 0.08–0.10% and can be reduced for high-volume accounts or users holding OKB, the platform's native token.

On the derivatives side, OKX offers USDT-margined and coin-margined perpetual swaps, quarterly futures, and options on select assets. Leverage on liquid perpetuals and futures can reach 125x, with derivatives maker fees from 0.02% — among the lowest available on major exchanges. The platform also offers margin trading, an automated trading-bot suite, a launchpad (Jumpstart) for new token offerings, and block trading tools for institutional-sized orders.

OKX Earn

OKX Earn aggregates passive-income products across CeFi and DeFi: fixed and flexible savings, stablecoin yields, crypto loans, and proof-of-stake staking for assets including SOL, ETH, DOT, and ATOM. Users can stake SOL directly through OKX Earn to receive staking rewards without managing validator infrastructure.

OKB Token and X Layer

OKB is OKX's native utility token, providing trading fee discounts on the CEX, early access to Jumpstart token sales, and serving as the gas token for X Layer — OKX's Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 network built using the Polygon CDK. X Layer targets developers building decentralized applications within the OKX ecosystem. OKX additionally offers Exchange OS, an infrastructure layer enabling third parties to build market structures on OKX's backend.

OKX Web3 Wallet and DEX Aggregator

The OKX Web3 Wallet is a non-custodial, open-source wallet supporting 130+ blockchains including Solana, Ethereum, BNB Chain, and X Layer. Users retain full control via seed phrases or private keys and can create up to 1,000 sub-accounts within a single wallet instance. The wallet is available as a mobile app (iOS and Android) and browser extension.

The wallet's centerpiece for on-chain trading is its DEX aggregator, which routes trades across 400+ DEXs and 100+ liquidity pools on 20+ chains. The proprietary X Routing algorithm splits orders, compares prices in real time, and minimizes network fees. OKX reports X Routing delivers competitive pricing versus other aggregators in more than 60% of cases. Three trading modes — Easy, Advanced, and Meme Mode — accommodate users of different experience levels.

Beyond swapping, OKX Wallet supports NFT creation and management, cross-chain bridge functionality, WalletConnect compatibility, and an on-chain analytics terminal with real-time data feeds and customizable alerts.

Solana Integration

OKX has made Solana a priority across its product stack. The OKX Web3 Wallet supports Solana natively, enabling users to hold SOL and SPL tokens, interact with Solana DeFi protocols, and swap assets through the DEX aggregator on Solana mainnet. A developer quick-start guide in the OKX Wallet API documentation covers Solana swap integration for application builders.

In 2025, OKX extended built-in DEX trading to Solana within its mobile app, giving exchange users direct on-chain access alongside their CEX accounts. OKX Wallet also became the primary integrated wallet for Whales Market, Solana's leading pre-market trading platform. OKX Ventures, the exchange's investment arm, has participated in the Solana Hong Kong Summit and funds Solana ecosystem projects.

Regulatory Standing and Compliance

OKX has navigated significant regulatory turbulence. In early 2025, OKX reached a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice, pleading guilty to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and agreeing to pay $84 million in penalties and forfeit approximately $421 million in fees collected from U.S. customers during a period when it lacked the required licenses. As part of the agreement, OKX retained an external compliance consultant through at least February 2027.

Following the settlement, OKX relaunched in the United States in April 2025, offering both its CEX and OKX Wallet to American users under updated compliance controls. In Europe, OKX secured a MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) license in Malta in January 2025, establishing it as a regulated Crypto Asset Service Provider. OKX also holds a Major Payment Institution (MPI) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, received in 2024.

Security and Proof of Reserves

OKX publishes a monthly Proof of Reserves report audited by the cybersecurity firm Hacken. As of its 37th consecutive monthly report in late 2025, OKX reported over $30 billion in primary assets maintained at a 1:1 ratio backing customer funds. CertiK and Slowmist have also conducted audits of OKX products; Slowmist specifically audited OKX's Multi-Party Computation (MPC) wallet implementation.

In June 2024, two OKX users lost funds through a SIM-swap attack exploiting the exchange's 2FA system. OKX fully compensated both victims and subsequently upgraded account security protocols, recommending authenticator-app-based 2FA over SMS-based verification.

Position in the Solana Ecosystem

OKX functions as a major on-ramp, off-ramp, and on-chain access layer for the Solana ecosystem. Its CEX supports spot trading for SOL and a broad range of Solana-native tokens; OKX Earn enables SOL staking; and OKX Wallet provides DEX aggregation, DeFi access, and NFT tooling directly on Solana. For Solana users and developers, OKX represents one of the most comprehensive multi-modal integrations available from a major centralized exchange platform.
