0fiat

The 0fiat browser extension connects users' cryptocurrency wallets to retailer checkout flows, enabling USDT and USDC payments across ERC-20, BEP-20, TRC-20, and SPL networks. Upon confirmed on-chain deposits, the system generates digital gift cards automatically redeemed at supported merchants through fiat settlement rails. The extension is self-custodial, requiring explicit wallet approval per transaction, with no private key storage or identity verification.

What Is 0fiat?

0fiat is a browser extension and mobile application that enables cryptocurrency holders to spend stablecoins directly at mainstream online retailers without needing a crypto debit card, an identity verification process, or a currency conversion step. Launched in November 2024 under the tagline "Zero friction, zero fiat," the project positions itself as a practical bridge between crypto-native users and traditional e-commerce, letting shoppers check out using USDT or USDC at stores that have no native crypto support of their own.

The extension is available for Chrome, Edge, and Brave browsers, with an Android app live on the Google Play Store and an iOS version in development. As of July 2026, the extension was on version 0.9.611 and had received a 4.88 out of 5 rating from 17 verified reviewers on the Chrome Web Store.

The Problem 0fiat Addresses

Spending crypto at conventional retailers has historically been difficult. Dedicated crypto debit cards typically require identity verification (KYC), pre-loading of funds onto a custodial card, monthly or annual fees, and currency conversion that introduces slippage and administrative overhead. The result is that billions of dollars in stablecoin holdings sit idle because the tooling to spend them frictionlessly at ordinary online shops does not exist.

0fiat targets this gap specifically. Rather than issuing a card, the extension inserts itself into the existing checkout flow of supported retailers, routing the payment through stablecoins from the user's own wallet while delivering local fiat currency to the merchant on the other side. Neither party needs to know or care about the underlying blockchain mechanics.

How It Works

The payment flow is designed to be completed in under 30 seconds:

  1. A user shops at a supported retailer as normal, placing items in the cart.
  2. At checkout, the user clicks the 0fiat extension button rather than entering a payment card.
  3. The extension prompts the user to approve a stablecoin transfer from their connected wallet.
  4. Once approved, the merchant receives local fiat currency instantly, and the transaction is settled on-chain.

The model is non-custodial: funds never leave the user's wallet until the moment of explicit approval. There is no intermediary holding account, no advance deposit, and no conversion the user has to manage manually. The extension handles the routing logic between the stablecoin transfer and the merchant's fiat settlement in the background.

Supported Networks and Wallets

0fiat accepts USDT and USDC across four blockchain networks:

  • SPL (Solana) — leveraging Solana's high throughput and low transaction costs
  • ERC20 (Ethereum)
  • BEP20 (BNB Chain)
  • TRC20 (Tron)

Wallet compatibility includes MetaMask, Phantom, Trust Wallet, and other widely used self-custody wallets. The multi-chain approach means users can spend from whichever network holds their stablecoins without bridging assets first.

Key Features and Cost Structure

0fiat operates on a zero-fee model across all cost categories it controls:

  • No issuance fees
  • No transaction fees
  • No maintenance fees
  • No monthly subscription

Users pay the crypto equivalent of their purchase price, with no markup on the exchange rate. The service also surfaces discounts — typically around 3% on average, with some stores offering up to 14% — and a cashback credit for new users through a referral program with tiered affiliate payouts.

The KYC-free design is a deliberate product choice. Users in over 45 countries can install the extension and spend crypto without submitting identity documents, which makes the product accessible to a global audience that either lacks the documentation required by conventional fintech or prefers not to share it.

Supported Merchants

The platform lists 190+ supported online retailers with global reach. Users have reported successfully completing purchases on large e-commerce platforms including Amazon and Flipkart. The full list of active merchant integrations is maintained at the project's supported-store directory. Merchant returns and refunds are handled by the store directly under its own policies.

Token

0fiat does not currently have a native token. The project has noted that any future token announcements would be communicated through its official channels. The current focus is on growing merchant coverage and user adoption ahead of any potential tokenization of the protocol.

Security and Audits

The non-custodial architecture limits the attack surface meaningfully: because user funds are never pre-loaded onto a platform-controlled account, there is no honeypot balance for an attacker to drain in a contract exploit. The stablecoin transfer from the user's wallet is a standard on-chain approval pattern familiar from DeFi.

No third-party security audits have been publicly disclosed as of this writing. The extension's version history shows regular updates — version 0.9.611 shipped in July 2026 — indicating active maintenance and iteration on the product. Users should apply the same caution they would with any browser extension handling wallet interactions: verify the publisher, review permissions, and use hardware wallet signing where possible.

Team

The team behind 0fiat has not been publicly identified by name. The project operates under a community-published ownership model on Solana Compass. No venture funding rounds or investor disclosures have been announced publicly through mid-2026.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Solana's combination of sub-second finality, sub-cent transaction costs, and a large Phantom wallet user base makes it a natural fit for a payments product that competes on speed and low friction. By supporting SPL tokens alongside other chains, 0fiat positions Solana as a first-class payment rail for everyday commerce — a use case that aligns with broader Solana ecosystem goals around mainstream consumer adoption.

For Phantom users in particular, the extension represents a direct path to spend USDC or USDT at major retailers without leaving the Phantom custody model or paying Solana gas at a rate that affects the economics of small purchases.

Status

As of late July 2026, 0fiat is operationally active. The website is live, the Chrome extension is updated regularly, the Android app is available, and the @0FiatHQ account on X posts consistently. The product remains in beta-stage development (version 0.9.x), with iOS support and further merchant expansion flagged as near-term priorities.
