About

ZBX

ZBX is a regulated digital asset exchange and crypto-asset service provider that aims to make cryptocurrency accessible to everyday users and institutions across Europe and beyond. Operating under the tagline "Virtually everywhere. Democratize. Digitize. Connect," the platform combines exchange services, over-the-counter trading, staking, and crypto payment tools within a single compliance-first environment.

Background and Founding

ZBX was established in 2018 in Malta, at a time when the island nation was positioning itself as a global hub for blockchain business through its Virtual Financial Assets Act (VFAA). The exchange launched with backing from Asian and Swiss investors, aiming to bridge European regulatory standards with the high-volume trading activity characteristic of Asian crypto markets. This dual focus gave ZBX an early positioning as a cross-regional exchange that took regulatory adherence seriously from day one rather than treating it as an afterthought.

Regulatory Status

Regulation is the defining feature of ZBX's identity. The platform operates as Zillion Bits Ltd. and holds a Class 4 Virtual Financial Assets (VFA) Service Provider license issued by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), one of the first exchanges to receive this designation under Malta's crypto-specific legal framework.

Beyond Malta's national framework, ZBX has more recently secured authorization under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), placing it among a small group of exchanges licensed as Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs) under this pan-European regime. MiCA authorization allows a licensed provider to passport its services across all EU member states, significantly expanding the addressable market for ZBX without requiring individual country-by-country approvals.

ZBX is also reported to be pursuing an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in Malta and exploring collaboration with Swiss regulators, signaling ongoing expansion of its regulatory portfolio. US-based investors are excluded from the platform to maintain jurisdictional compliance.

The MFSA has published a warning about clone websites fraudulently impersonating ZBX, which is a marker that the platform has enough recognition that bad actors have sought to exploit its brand.

Core Products and Services

Spot Exchange ZBX offers spot trading across approximately 16 curated cryptocurrencies. The platform's approach to listing is selective: ZBX conducts due diligence before permitting a new asset for trading, rather than listing every available token. This makes the exchange smaller in breadth than major competitors but more focused in terms of asset quality. Supported assets include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Solana (SOL), Cardano (ADA), Tron (TRX), Ripple (XRP), Dogecoin (DOGE), Polygon (MATIC), USD Coin (USDC), Tether (USDT), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Qtum, among others. Maker and taker fees are set at 0.50%.

OTC Trading Desk For larger transactions that would move markets if placed on the open order book, ZBX offers an OTC trading desk. This service is designed for institutional clients and high-volume traders who need to execute large crypto positions at negotiated prices with minimal slippage.

Staking and Earn ZBX provides institutional-grade staking and earnings products, allowing users to stake assets including Solana (SOL), Ethereum (ETH), and Polygon (MATIC), among others. The platform markets this as a straightforward way for users to earn yield on holdings without running validator infrastructure themselves.

Crypto Debit Card ZBX issues a crypto debit card that allows holders to spend cryptocurrency at any merchant that accepts major payment card networks. This bridges the gap between on-chain digital assets and everyday commerce.

Virtual IBANs and Payment Infrastructure Beyond individual user accounts, ZBX offers virtual IBAN accounts that allow holders to receive euro-denominated transfers and convert between fiat and crypto. The platform also provides corporate crypto accounts and advanced payment gateways, extending its services to businesses that need to accept or manage cryptocurrency alongside conventional payment methods.

Mobile Applications ZBX maintains mobile applications on both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play), enabling users to trade, stake, and manage assets from their phones.

Liquidity Model

To address the liquidity limitations common to mid-sized exchanges, ZBX has established a liquidity-sharing arrangement with ZB.com and ZBG. This pooled liquidity model improves order book depth and tightens spreads, helping ZBX offer trading conditions that more closely match larger platforms despite its smaller user base.

Security and Compliance

ZBX stores the majority of user funds in cold storage, reducing exposure to exchange hacks. The platform enforces two-factor authentication (2FA) on accounts and uses SSL encryption across its web interface. Mandatory KYC (Know Your Customer) verification is required for all users, and the platform maintains Anti-Money Laundering (AML) procedures in line with EU financial services regulations.

Team

ZBX's leadership team, as documented in independent directories, includes CEO Jimmy Zhao, CFO Ian Dawson, CTO Kevin Zhang, and COO Dawei Li. The team's makeup reflects the platform's Asian investor base combined with a European operational and compliance focus.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Solana (SOL) is a first-class asset on ZBX. Users can buy, sell, and trade SOL on the spot market, and the platform's staking product includes SOL alongside ETH and MATIC. For Solana holders who want a regulated European on-ramp and off-ramp — or who want to stake SOL through an exchange with MiCA authorization and IBAN-based fiat access — ZBX provides a compliant option within the EU framework. The platform positions itself as a bridge between the Solana ecosystem and European financial infrastructure, particularly useful for users who prioritize regulatory clarity over the breadth of token offerings found on unregulated alternatives.
