xLabs

xLabs is an open-source blockchain infrastructure company founded in 2022 and headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The team describes itself as "a collective of exceptional engineers" drawn from regions where cryptocurrency is not a speculative abstraction but a daily financial reality — a perspective that shapes its focus on practical, production-grade infrastructure rather than theoretical protocols. Co-founded by Pablo Yabo, Michel Dahdah, and Gabriel Zimmermann, xLabs has become one of the most active cross-chain infrastructure operators in the Solana and broader Web3 ecosystem.

Core Contributor to Wormhole

xLabs is best known as a core contributor to Wormhole, the leading decentralized cross-chain interoperability protocol. In September 2023, the Wormhole Foundation awarded xLabs its first-ever Core Developer Grant, formally recognizing the team's contributions to protocol development and infrastructure. That grant cemented a relationship xLabs had been building since the early days of Portal Bridge.

Within the Wormhole ecosystem, xLabs takes on several interlocking roles.

Wormhole Guardian. xLabs operates a Wormhole Guardian node — one of the entities responsible for cryptographic verification of cross-chain messages. Guardians observe events on each connected blockchain, attest to their validity, and collectively sign the Verified Action Approvals (VAAs) that authorize messages to execute on destination chains.

Largest Relayer Network Provider. xLabs operates the largest automatic relayer network in the Wormhole ecosystem. Relayers pick up signed messages from Guardians and deliver them to destination chains, enabling the end-to-end cross-chain flows that dApps depend on. xLabs processes millions of these deliveries each year.

CCTP Relay Network. As a Circle Alliance partner, xLabs operates a primary relay network built on Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), enabling automatic USDC transfers across CCTP-supported chains. This layer handles a significant portion of native USDC cross-chain volume.

Portal Bridge. xLabs powers Portal Bridge, Wormhole's flagship multi-chain bridge interface. Portal allows users to transfer wrapped and native assets across Wormhole's 30+ connected blockchains, with optional asset swapping at the destination.

WormholeScan. xLabs built and maintains WormholeScan, the primary block explorer and analytics platform for the Wormhole protocol. WormholeScan lets users search, visualize, and analyze all Wormhole-related cross-chain activity — from individual transaction lookups to aggregate protocol-level statistics.

Infrastructure at Scale

Beyond its Wormhole-specific roles, xLabs provides broad-based node and validator infrastructure across the multi-chain ecosystem. The team deploys and maintains more than 100 RPC nodes across 35+ blockchain networks. They run full nodes and validators on 24 chains including Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Aptos, Arbitrum, Sui, Algorand, Fantom, NEAR, Injective, Optimism, Sei, and Moonbeam, among others.

This breadth reflects the xLabs view that reliable, independently operated nodes on every supported chain are a prerequisite for trustworthy cross-chain messaging. A Wormhole Guardian that cannot independently verify source-chain state contributes little to protocol security.

Solana Presence and LATAM Expansion

xLabs holds a notable place in the Solana ecosystem specifically: it operates the first Solana validator based in Argentina and is one of only three validators across all of South America. In early 2025, xLabs opened a public staking page, inviting the community to delegate to Argentina's first Solana validator as part of a broader effort to geographically decentralize the network beyond its current concentration in North America and Europe.

The team has also engaged with Firedancer, Solana's next-generation validator client, bringing it to their Buenos Aires infrastructure — a sign of their commitment to staying at the frontier of Solana's technical stack.

This LATAM focus reflects something deeper than geographic branding. The xLabs team highlights that its engineers come from countries where inflation and financial exclusion make access to open financial rails genuinely consequential. Building crypto infrastructure is, for this team, a mission with tangible stakes in everyday life.

Developer Tooling

xLabs publishes the Wallet Aggregator SDK, a modular TypeScript library that allows dApp developers to integrate wallet connectivity across multiple blockchain ecosystems through a unified interface. The SDK provides core wallet abstractions, a React context and hooks layer, and separate packages for Algorand, Aptos, EVM chains, Injective, NEAR, Solana, Terra, and XPLA — reducing the boilerplate required when building multi-chain dApps. The library is open-source and available on GitHub.

Institutional Expansion

In addition to its work in permissionless networks, xLabs has extended its validator operations to the Canton Network, a permissioned blockchain network designed for institutional finance. This move reflects the team's ambition to operate across both the open and institutional layers of the emerging financial infrastructure stack.

Open-Source Commitment

xLabs maintains 37 public repositories on GitHub, spanning Wormhole protocol implementations, threshold signature scheme (TSS) libraries for multi-party ECDSA and EdDSA computation, hardware wallet integrations, and the Wallet Aggregator SDK. The stated goal is to build infrastructure that "empowers the builders of the decentralized web" — treating open-source contributions as the durable foundation beneath the applications that end users eventually encounter.

Circle has described xLabs as "a leading infrastructure services provider with a wide breadth of expertise building and operating all things blockchain." That framing captures the xLabs position well: less a product company than an infrastructure operator whose work shows up as the invisible plumbing beneath bridges, explorers, and cross-chain dApps throughout the Wormhole ecosystem and beyond.
