Torque: Solana's Onchain Incentive Infrastructure
Torque is a growth protocol built exclusively for Solana that replaces guesswork-driven marketing with programmable, measurable onchain incentive campaigns. Where traditional crypto marketing relies on banner ads, Twitter giveaways, and subjective influencer spend, Torque treats every reward distribution as a verifiable onchain event — attributable, auditable, and iterable. The protocol's tagline, "The Solana Growth Protocol," captures a deliberate positioning: Torque is not a general-purpose tool adapted to Solana but infrastructure designed from the ground up for the speed and composability of the Solana runtime.
Origin and Backing
Torque was founded in early 2024 by Mike Sobol and Vinko Buble. The project entered the Colosseum Renaissance Hackathon alongside roughly 1,300 competing teams and won the Infrastructure Track at the Colosseum Accelerator in May 2024 — an outcome that surfaced the team to top-tier Solana-focused investors. Torque subsequently raised $3 million in seed funding, with participation from 6th Man Ventures and Solana Ventures, among others.
The founding motivation was a frustration common to protocol growth teams: spending material treasury budgets on marketing with no reliable way to measure whether those expenditures changed user behavior at all. Sobol and Buble set out to build a layer that makes every dollar of incentive spend traceable to an onchain outcome.
Core Mechanism
At the protocol level, Torque works by reading pre-indexed Solana on-chain data — transaction history, wallet activity, protocol interactions — and using that data to define qualifying conditions for rewards. Instead of manually exporting CSV lists or building custom indexers, a protocol team can describe a target behavior (e.g., "users who swapped more than $1,000 in the last 30 days" or "wallets that have not interacted with our protocol in 14 days") and Torque resolves that audience in real time.
Campaigns then distribute rewards — SPL tokens, NFTs, or points — automatically to wallets that meet the defined criteria. The system includes a feedback loop: an AI agent monitors campaign performance each epoch, identifies which user segments are converting and which are churning, and recommends or applies parameter adjustments to reduce cost per acquisition over time. The platform claims an average 5x return on incentive spend across its campaign portfolio.
Incentive Primitives
Torque structures its offering around six composable incentive primitives:
Leaderboards rank participating wallets by a custom metric — volume traded, actions completed, referrals made — with live-updating standings and configurable reward pools for top performers. They are designed to be embedded directly inside a protocol's own UI rather than hosted on a separate Torque-branded page.
Raffles use activity-weighted ticket issuance: the more qualifying actions a user completes, the more raffle tickets they accumulate, improving their probability of winning a reward distributed on a set schedule. This prevents a small number of whales from dominating reward pools that would otherwise run as simple airdrops.
Rebates deliver cashback to users as a fraction of their protocol fees or volume, claimable in-product. These are particularly suited to DEXs, lending platforms, and perps markets looking to make their fee structures feel more competitive without permanently cutting headline rates.
Gifts are targeted token or NFT distributions to specific wallet segments — useful for loyalty recognition, re-engagement of lapsed users, or celebrating protocol milestones.
Referrals provide a built-in viral acquisition loop: existing users receive shareable links, and both referrer and referee earn rewards when the referred wallet completes a qualifying action. Onchain attribution ensures no double-counting.
Custom campaigns allow protocol teams to define arbitrary qualifying events and payout formulas, covering use cases the standard primitives do not address.
All six primitives are deployable with no custom code required from the protocol team: configuration happens through Torque's campaign builder using queries and templates, while an SDK allows deeper embedding for teams that want the campaign experience woven into their own product surfaces.
Torque Intelligence
Beyond campaign execution, Torque offers an analytics layer called Torque Intelligence that surfaces insights from a protocol's on-chain user base before any campaign is deployed. Teams can segment their user population by behavioral attributes, identify high-value cohorts, model the expected impact of different incentive structures, and track cohort-level performance after launch. The platform's own benchmarks suggest that users who claim rewards through Torque campaigns are 9.4 times more likely to become repeat power users, implying that well-targeted incentives accelerate genuine adoption rather than merely attracting one-time mercenary capital.
Ecosystem Traction
By mid-2026, Torque reported having driven more than $6 billion in on-chain volume attributable to its campaigns, distributed over $10 million in rewards, and processed more than 1,400 distinct campaigns across the Solana ecosystem. These figures reflect adoption by a range of DeFi protocols, NFT marketplaces, and emerging Solana applications seeking to operationalize their growth budgets.
The protocol's model is predicated on Solana's structural advantages: low transaction fees make micro-reward distributions economically viable at scale, and Solana's throughput enables real-time leaderboard updates and instant reward settlement without the gas-cost friction that has hampered similar incentive tools on other chains.
Token
A TORQ token exists on Solana (mint address: 3NghNp3KEfRM7RH2ve1yhX8YuJvrejDFTnVa4BfbLKiX), though detailed tokenomics, distribution schedules, and governance functions had not been publicly documented in depth at the time of writing. Prospective participants should consult the official Torque documentation and any subsequent disclosures before drawing conclusions about token utility or supply structure.
Audits and Security
Security audit disclosures were not publicly surfaced in Torque's documentation as of September 2026. Given that the protocol manages reward distribution from third-party protocol treasuries, prospective integrators should request audit reports and smart contract documentation directly from the Torque team before deploying material capital through the platform.
Solana Fit
Torque is one of the clearest examples of a project that could only realistically operate on Solana in its current form. The economics of distributing thousands of individual onchain rewards per campaign, running real-time leaderboards that update with every block, and maintaining an AI optimization loop that re-reads chain state each epoch would be prohibitively expensive on high-fee EVM chains. Solana's sub-cent transaction costs and 400ms block times are not incidental to the product — they are the reason the product can exist at the price points Torque targets.
For Solana DeFi protocols and application teams navigating the challenge of converting TVL or volume metrics into lasting user relationships, Torque positions itself as the missing infrastructure layer: not a marketing agency, not a point system bolted on after the fact, but a protocol-level growth engine that makes incentive spend as composable and verifiable as any other DeFi primitive.
