Topper

Topper is a fiat-to-crypto on-ramp and crypto-to-fiat off-ramp offered via an embeddable widget and APIs for business partners and wallets. Consumers can buy crypto to a specified wallet address using cards and supported wallets, and sell crypto to receive fiat to linked debit cards. Documentation provides flows for crypto on-ramp and crypto off-ramp, webhooks, REST API, SSO, and mobile/web SDK usage.

Topper

Topper is a fiat-to-crypto on-ramp and off-ramp developed by Uphold, the Web3 financial platform. Launched in April 2023, it is purpose-built for one task: letting users move money into and out of self-custodial wallets as quickly as possible. Unlike Uphold's main exchange, which supports trading, custody, and a 300-asset portfolio on the platform itself, Topper is structured around wallet-to-wallet transfers — and Solana (SOL) ranked as the top traded asset on the service across the full year of 2025.

What Topper Does

At its core, Topper is a widget. Wallet providers, decentralized applications, and Web3 platforms embed it so their users can complete fiat-to-crypto purchases or crypto-to-fiat sales without leaving the host application. When a user purchases through Topper, the purchased asset is delivered directly to the wallet address they specify. The platform retains no custody. When selling, the user sends crypto and receives fiat to a linked debit card. At no point does Topper hold assets on behalf of users between transactions.

Payment methods accepted for on-ramp purchases include debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo (United States only), PIX (Brazil), and SEPA bank transfers across Europe. On-ramp coverage spans 150 or more countries, with purchases available for over 250 digital assets across 36 blockchain networks.

Off-Ramp and Full-Cycle Access

Topper launched off-ramp functionality on November 25, 2024, initially supporting 232 cryptocurrencies. The company positioned breadth of asset coverage as the core differentiator: every asset available for on-ramping can also be off-ramped. Proceeds reach users via Visa Direct and Mastercard Send, arriving to debit cards almost instantly. Coverage extends to 230 or more countries. The transaction fee is 1.75% and the daily withdrawal cap is $24,000.

Topper and the Solana Ecosystem

Solana is tightly woven through Topper's integration footprint. Phantom is one of the partner platforms running Topper Flex, the embedded native checkout experience. Other confirmed Topper integrations include Magic Eden, WalletConnect, SubWallet, and Polymarket on the on-ramp side, and VESPR and Bifrost on the off-ramp side.

Topper's own 2025 year-in-review data confirmed SOL as the single most traded asset across all transactions for the year, ahead of BTC, ETH, and XRP. That figure reflects Solana's position as a primary destination for retail on-ramp flows, driven by wallet adoption and low transaction costs on the network.

Product Features

Topper Flex is the embedded checkout variant, deployed across Phantom, Trust Wallet, Bifrost, OxenFlow, VESPR, and Xaman. It presents the purchase flow as part of the host app's interface, reducing drop-off at the payment step.

Recurring purchases launched in June 2026, letting users schedule automated buys on weekly or monthly intervals via debit or credit card.

KYC sharing reduces repeated identity verification for users who have completed KYC at a prior integration point. Combined with an approval rate exceeding 70% that Topper cites for on-ramp transactions, the feature is aimed at reducing friction that characterizes competing on-ramp services.

Transaction history export lets users download a full record of their activity for tax reporting.

Geographic Expansion in 2025

In 2025, Topper reopened services in the United Kingdom, reintroduced PIX in Brazil, and added SEPA bank transfers across Europe. It added 55 new tokens over the course of the year, bringing total supported assets to more than 250. Among the newly listed assets were SUI, IOTA, and WLFI.

Relationship to Uphold

Topper operates as an Uphold brand. Uphold, the parent platform, supports trading, custody, and portfolio management across 300 or more assets and draws on liquidity from over 30 trading venues. Topper is narrower by design: it handles the on-ramp and off-ramp layer for self-custodial users and partner platforms, without offering a custodial trading environment of its own. Technical documentation for Topper's developer integration is maintained at github.com/uphold/topper-docs.
