On-chain activity
PayLeaf
PayLeaf provides mobile cryptocurrency payment processing for cannabis merchants through QR code scanning and Phantom wallet integration, enabling acceptance of PUFF, SOL, and USDC with automatic stablecoin conversion to avoid volatility.
Cosmic Clash
Cosmic Clash is a community-versus-community strategy game on Solana where users deploy fleets, complete missions, and compete in tournaments. The game features alliance-based gameplay, NFT ship collections from partner communities, and blockchain-based reward mechanics powered by the CLASH token.
Stoned Ape Crew
Stoned Ape Crew (SAC) is a cannabis-culture-themed NFT collection on Solana that launched in November 2021 and has since expanded into a community-run lifestyle brand and gaming ecosystem. The project describes itself as "the most chill community on the internet" — a deliberate identity built around accessibility, humor, and a shared affection for cannabis culture. What began as a 4,200-piece generative NFT collection has grown to include a utility token, on-chain staking, NFT evolution mechanics, a PvP strategy game, and real-world industry applications.
The Collection
Stoned Ape Crew minted on November 27, 2021, at 0.69 SOL per NFT — both numbers a nod to cannabis culture (4,200 supply, 0.69 SOL price). The final circulating count settled at 4,142 unique Ape NFTs. The collection divides into two tiers based on trait assignment:
- Role Apes (50%): Apes assigned one of four crew roles — Scientist, Businessman, Farmer, or Artist — which grant higher staking yields and serve as the active tier of the collection.
- Chimpions (50%): Apes without assigned roles, earning reduced staking rewards but upgradeable through the retreat mechanic.
The team is drawn from the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), combining experience in branding and product design from major European companies with cryptocurrency development expertise predating the project.
$PUFF Token and Staking
The $PUFF token is the core utility asset of the SAC ecosystem, with a fixed supply of 420 million tokens — a deliberate cultural reference. Token distribution at launch allocated 65% to staking rewards, 10% to the team, 13% to marketing, and 10% to liquidity.
NFT holders earn $PUFF daily through on-chain staking:
- Role Apes earn 30 $PUFF per day
- Chimpions earn 15 $PUFF per day
The token is used across the SAC ecosystem for NFT upgrades, merchandise purchases, exclusive experiences, and access to cannabis products distributed through partner channels. Royalty revenue from secondary sales is deployed to floor purchases, token burns, and holder airdrops.
NFT Evolution and Retreat Mechanics
A distinguishing feature of SAC is its on-chain evolution system, allowing holders to upgrade Chimpions into Role Apes by spending $PUFF. Two upgrade paths exist:
- Retreat: Costs 333 $PUFF. Locks the NFT for three days and returns a 60% probability of trait assignment.
- DMT Retreat: Costs 666 $PUFF. Returns an 80% probability of trait assignment with a higher token stake.
Failed upgrades burn the $PUFF without granting a role. The mechanic ties token demand directly to NFT utility and creates a persistent deflationary sink for supply — the more holders attempt upgrades, the more $PUFF is removed from circulation.
Cosmic Clash: Gaming Expansion
SAC's most significant expansion beyond the original collection is Cosmic Clash, a community-versus-community PvP strategy war game built on Solana. The game won first place in a Solana Game Jam competition prior to its broader launch, providing early validation of the technical execution.
Cosmic Clash positions Stoned Apes — and communities across the Solana ecosystem — as factions competing in on-chain Space Missions. Skill, alliances, and strategy determine outcomes rather than passive holding. The game extends SAC's identity into interactive, competitive territory without abandoning the project's chill-first brand tone.
The pivot toward gaming is significant enough that the project now operates its primary social presence under the @CosmicClash_Sol handle on X, reflecting how central the game has become to the project's ongoing direction.
Real-World Applications
SAC positioned itself from early on as a tech-first cannabis brand rather than a pure collectibles play. Two applied ventures emerged from this vision:
- PayLeaf: Cryptocurrency payment infrastructure designed specifically for cannabis dispensaries. Cannabis retail operates with significant banking restrictions in many markets; PayLeaf aims to provide a compliant payment layer that accepts digital assets at point of sale.
- Monet: A fintech initiative developed alongside PayLeaf, with overlapping goals around digital payment infrastructure.
Both represent attempts to bridge the SAC community's cannabis-adjacent identity with practical blockchain utility in a regulated industry where conventional payment rails remain constrained.
Community and Events
SAC built substantial community scale in its first year. By early 2022 the project had grown to more than 25,000 Twitter followers and more than 30,000 Discord members — large numbers for a project of its launch vintage on Solana. The community self-identifies as one of the most cohesive on the chain, with members prominently displaying SAC NFTs as profile pictures and maintaining active coordination across channels.
Community events have included a Puffin' LA experience with artist Roddy Ricch and an NFT.NYC yacht party, establishing SAC as a project with a meaningful events-and-access layer beyond digital ownership.
The project has also donated over $70,000 to MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies), supporting mental health and psychedelics research. This philanthropic direction is consistent with the community ethos and aligned with growing mainstream and clinical interest in cannabis and psychedelic therapeutics.
Solana Ecosystem Fit
SAC launched during Solana's breakout NFT moment in late 2021, when the chain was attracting projects seeking speed and lower transaction costs compared to Ethereum. The project's dual-tier staking, token burn mechanics, and on-chain evolution system were among the more developed utility frameworks in the Solana NFT space at the time of launch.
The subsequent development of Cosmic Clash reflects a pattern across established Solana NFT projects: using an engaged holder base as the foundation for a gaming layer, converting passive collectible owners into active game participants. Winning a Solana Game Jam before full release demonstrates the team has shipped technical work, not just roadmap promises.
The collection trades on secondary markets including Tensor and Solanart. With Cosmic Clash in active development and the $PUFF Valley ecosystem still running, SAC occupies a corner of the Solana NFT space defined by cultural specificity, community longevity, and expanding use cases beyond static collectibles.
