Router Protocol

Router Protocol is a cross-chain swap network that routes trades across multiple blockchains by aggregating liquidity from solvers, decentralized exchanges, and bridges into a unified execution layer. It operates on the Open Graph Architecture (OGA), a non-custodial, chain-agnostic programmable execution graph designed to unify fragmented liquidity across EVM chains, non-EVM networks like Solana, and Layer 2 rollups.

What It Does

The core value proposition is large-order execution with minimal slippage. Rather than routing a trade through a single bridge or DEX, the system discovers optimized paths across all available venues in real time, splitting orders across up to 30 bridges simultaneously when needed. The platform targets sub-10 basis point execution costs on trades up to $50 million and claims 99.5% settlement reliability across live chains.

Users interact through the Router App, a swap interface built on OGA. Developers access the same routing engine via a REST API (integration time under five minutes) or an embeddable white-label widget. The API accepts source chain, destination chain, token pair, and amount, then returns the best available route with a real-time quote.

How OGA Works

The Open Graph Architecture has four main components:

  • Permissionless Node Registry — Bridges, DEXs, and solver nodes register on-chain using EIP-712 authentication and build an on-chain reputation score over time.
  • Split-and-Optimize Engine — Parallelizes large orders across multiple venues to minimize slippage, with a stated target of under 10 basis points on trades up to $50 million.
  • Unified Messaging Hub — Adapts between cross-chain messaging protocols including LayerZero and Wormhole, with isolated revert logic to contain failures.
  • Modular Hook Architecture — Enables custom workflows through developer SDKs, including dynamic fee structures and governance policies.

Liquidity sources integrated at launch include Uniswap, Stargate, KyberSwap, Jupiter, Across, Mayan, Relay, Meson, Chainflip, Thorchain, and others — more than 100 routes in total.

Solana Integration

Solana is a supported non-EVM chain within the Router OGA network. The protocol integrates Jupiter as a Solana-native liquidity source, enabling routes that settle on or originate from Solana alongside EVM chains, Bitcoin, and other non-EVM networks.

Router Nitro, the protocol's cross-chain bridge, supports deposits from more than 30 chains including Solana. In January 2025, Hyperliquid integrated Router Nitro for cross-chain deposits, explicitly supporting Ethereum, Solana, Sui, Tron, and Base as source chains. The Nitro bridge had processed over 1.5 million cross-chain transactions and $1 billion in volume by that point.

History and Architecture Transition

Router Protocol was founded in late 2020 and initially operated as a cross-chain bridge. The project later launched Router Chain, a custom Cosmos SDK-based Layer 1 blockchain intended to serve as the coordination layer for cross-chain operations. Router Chain ran its own validator set with inflationary ROUTE token rewards.

In September 2025, the team put a proposal to the DAO to sunset Router Chain, citing the infrastructure and security overhead of running an independent L1 as a distraction from the OGA direction. The vote ran September 19–24, 2025. Following approval, an orderly wind-down proceeded: validator rewards were set to zero, bridging on the chain was paused in mid-October, a snapshot of all ROUTE balances on Router Chain was taken on October 16, 2025, and an airdrop distributed equivalent Ethereum-based ROUTE to holders on October 20, 2025. Router Chain formally closed on October 31, 2025.

A second airdrop on October 28, 2025 covered addresses that had not migrated during the manual migration window (which had closed October 15, 2025). Total ROUTE supply at the time of the DAO proposal was approximately 980 million tokens, of which roughly 791 million resided on Router Chain.

July 2025 Bridge Exploit

On July 2, 2025, Router Protocol disclosed a security exploit affecting its asset bridge module. The vulnerability was in the custom Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) implementation built for Router Chain. A missing validation check failed to confirm that the RequestSender matched the TxSender, allowing the attacker to spoof sender identity and craft malicious outbound token transfer requests. The exploit occurred between 07:37 and 07:46 UTC and resulted in approximately $1.1 million in unauthorized transfers.

The team responded by pausing bridging on affected chains, which included several smaller networks (Arthera, DogeChain, Oasis, and others). Approximately 12.5% of the stolen funds were frozen in coordination with security researchers and exchanges. The vulnerability was described as unique to Router's custom implementation and not present in standard Cosmos SDK chains. The Router Chain closure in October 2025 removed the affected code path entirely from the active protocol.

ROUTE Token

The ROUTE token now lives on Ethereum following the Router Chain closure. Token utility under OGA includes participation in the solver ecosystem — Router's integration with Hyperliquid, for example, directed transaction fees toward ROUTE repurchases distributed to stakers. The original token supply of approximately 980 million ROUTE was distributed across Ethereum, Polygon, and Router Chain; after migration, Ethereum is the sole canonical chain.

Team tokens were subject to vesting with a delay through July 2026. Foundation and ecosystem allocations totaling 333 million ROUTE remain designated for market-making (67 million) and community campaigns (133 million), with approximately 60 million reserved for future fundraising and exchange listings.

Router Protocol positions itself as infrastructure for cross-chain liquidity rather than a consumer-facing application. Its Solana support is delivered through the OGA network and the Nitro bridge, with Jupiter serving as the native Solana liquidity layer within the routing graph.
