About

Roqqu

Roqqu is a Nigerian financial technology company offering a mobile-first cryptocurrency exchange and payments platform. Founded in 2019 by Uchenna Nnodum in Lagos, the company set out to provide African users with accessible, borderless financial services through crypto rails. As of 2025-2026, the platform reports more than 1.8 million registered users, over $1.5 billion in assets traded, and more than 17 million wallets generated.

Platform and Products

Roqqu's core product is a cryptocurrency exchange supporting over 100 digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and Solana (SOL). Users can buy, sell, and hold assets directly from the mobile app. Beyond spot trading, the platform has expanded into several adjacent financial products:

Savings and lending. Roqqu offers zero-fee savings accounts with interest, as well as crypto-backed loans that allow users to collateralise volatile assets in exchange for stablecoins without selling their holdings.

Qash payments. A sub-product called Qash handles borderless payments, bill payments, and payment links, enabling users to send and receive money across borders using crypto infrastructure. This addresses a specific pain point: cross-border remittances to and from Africa traditionally involve high fees and multi-day settlement times.

Virtual cards. Roqqu issues virtual debit cards that allow users to spend cryptocurrency for everyday purchases wherever card payments are accepted.

Futures trading. A crypto futures product, in beta for much of 2025, exited beta in early 2026 with more than 30,000 users. The product expands Roqqu's offering beyond spot into derivatives for more experienced traders.

API and business services. Roqqu provides a developer API for businesses wishing to integrate crypto payment and brokerage functionality into their own applications.

Solana Support

Roqqu lists SOL as a supported trading asset with a dedicated coin-info page. The platform also supports PayPal's PYUSD on the Solana network, indicating live Solana network integration for Solana-based token deposits and withdrawals alongside Ethereum-network assets.

Geographic Expansion

Roqqu launched in Nigeria and has expanded progressively across the continent. Key milestones include:

  • South Africa (2022-2023): Received regulatory authorisation to operate a crypto exchange and offer rand-denominated fiat conversions, targeting one of Africa's largest retail crypto markets.
  • European Economic Area (2022): Secured a virtual currency licence covering 30+ EEA countries, creating a regulatory pathway for diaspora-facing services.
  • Kenya via Flitaa acquisition (July 2025): Acquired Nairobi-based crypto startup Flitaa in what has been described as Africa's first publicly disclosed intra-African crypto consolidation. The deal provided Roqqu with Flitaa's M-PESA integration — critical in a market where banks are barred from servicing crypto companies — and an immediate foothold in Kenya's estimated $100 million retail crypto market. Flitaa had previously operated in Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania. Post-acquisition, Flitaa continues to operate under its own brand on Roqqu's infrastructure.

Roqqu has operated the business without disclosed external venture capital funding.

Background

Founder Uchenna Nnodum built Roqqu around the observation that African users — and particularly diaspora Africans sending remittances home — faced slow, expensive, and inaccessible cross-border payment infrastructure. CEO Benjamin Onomor has highlighted the remittance corridor as a primary use case: Africans in the diaspora send over $5 billion annually back to the continent, often through processes that take days and carry substantial fees. Roqqu's crypto rails aim to compress that to near-instant delivery at reduced cost.

The exchange competes domestically against international platforms such as Binance and Bybit as well as local alternatives, and has positioned itself on user experience, local fiat on-ramps including instant naira withdrawals, and expanding regulatory licences as differentiators. The platform is accessible via iOS and Android mobile applications.
