What Ping Is

Ping is a payment orchestration layer that operates as middleware between traditional fiat systems and the full landscape of blockchain networks. Founded in August 2024, the project aims to remove the fragmentation that makes global crypto payments slow, complicated, and inaccessible. Rather than requiring senders and receivers to agree on a single chain, token, or wallet type, Ping abstracts those choices away entirely: the payer pays in their preferred currency, and the payee receives in theirs.

The platform's core philosophy is "Pay Your Way" — a model where neither party in a transaction needs to change how they hold or move money to complete a payment. This intent-based approach underpins every product in the Ping suite, from simple payment links to developer APIs for complex programmatic payment flows.

Core Mechanism: Intent-Based Cross-Chain Routing

Ping is powered by NEAR Intents, a cross-chain infrastructure layer that handles the routing and settlement logic behind multi-chain payments. When a transaction is initiated, the intent is broadcast to the network, which resolves the optimal path — including any necessary token swaps or bridge hops — to deliver funds in the recipient's preferred asset and on their preferred chain. This process is abstracted from end users, who interact with a familiar checkout or payment link interface rather than managing cross-chain mechanics themselves.

The architecture positions Ping as chain-agnostic at the settlement layer, with NEAR Intents coordinating asset movement across NEAR, Ethereum, Bitcoin, and other supported networks. Developers do not need to write chain-specific integration logic; the Ping API provides a unified interface that handles payment execution regardless of the underlying networks involved.

Key Products

Payment Links and Embeddable Widgets Merchants and developers can generate shareable payment links or embed checkout widgets directly in their applications. These handle the entire payment flow — from currency selection to settlement — without requiring a custom backend integration. The Ping Dashboard at pay.pingpay.io/dashboard provides centralized management for payment links, API keys, and integration settings.

Intent-Based Payments and Headless Checkout The Ping API exposes a headless payments interface that lets developers programmatically prepare, submit, and monitor payment transactions denominated in any supported asset. A hosted checkout option is also available for applications that prefer a pre-built UI. The full API reference and OpenAPI specification are published at pay.pingpay.io/api.

Automated Subscriptions Ping's subscription product allows merchants to set up recurring billing without the friction of per-cycle wallet approvals. The workflow proceeds in three steps: a merchant creates a subscription session through the API, the subscriber connects their NEAR wallet and signs all future payment intents in a single upfront interaction, and Ping then releases payments automatically on the predetermined schedule. Merchants receive webhook notifications for each payment event.

The V1 implementation processes USDC on NEAR and supports up to 12 payment periods per subscription. A technical constraint applies to the payout address: recipients must have previously interacted with the intents.near contract for payouts to succeed. The underlying service is open source in the ping-subscription-service GitHub repository, described as "secure, automated recurring payments without pre-funding or unlimited approvals."

Chain-Abstracted Onramp The Ping Onramp is an SDK that application developers embed to give users a fiat-to-crypto path directly within their product. The integration combines Coinbase Onramp for fiat-to-crypto conversion with NEAR Intents for cross-chain routing. A user deposits fiat, receives native USDC on Base, and that USDC travels through the NEAR Intents network to arrive in their chosen asset and wallet on a target blockchain — NEAR, Ethereum, Bitcoin, or other supported networks — in approximately 30 seconds. The documentation notes that Ping plans to add further onramp provider options to expand global coverage.

Swaps and Multi-chain Asset Management Ping's intent-based infrastructure also powers in-platform swaps, letting users move between assets and chains as part of a payment or settlement workflow without manually bridging or visiting a separate exchange.

Developer CLI The Pingpay CLI provides command-line access to wallet management, checkout session creation, payment execution, and payment link management — giving developers a scriptable interface alongside the API and Dashboard.

Supported Assets and Networks

Asset support is tied to the NEAR Intents network and the specific product being used. The onramp SDK can deliver any NEAR Intents–supported currency to NEAR, Ethereum, Bitcoin, and other connected networks. The subscription V1 is currently scoped to USDC on NEAR. The checkout and headless payment APIs are designed to support various digital assets and fiat currencies across the chains reachable through NEAR Intents.

For teams that require support for additional chains or assets not yet covered, Ping operates a public request process via a "Request New Chain / Asset Support Form," as well as an "Additional Onramp Provider Onboarding Form" for providers seeking integration.

Ecosystem Position

Ping enters a payments landscape where cross-chain complexity remains one of the main practical barriers to crypto adoption in commerce. Its intent-based model addresses a coordination problem that simpler payment processors sidestep: merchants cannot dictate which chain or token a customer holds funds in, and customers should not need to manually bridge or swap to complete a routine transaction. By absorbing that complexity into the orchestration layer, Ping lets merchants and developers build payment flows without taking a position on any single blockchain.

The project's open GitHub organization — which includes a peer-to-peer point-of-sale demo (pizza.pingpay.io, updated through May 2026) — demonstrates practical consumer use cases for the orchestration layer, from checkout widgets to real-world point-of-sale scenarios. A partner onboarding process exists for merchants, wallet providers, and onramp providers, indicating a network-growth model that expands coverage through ecosystem integrations rather than proprietary infrastructure ownership.
