On-chain activity
Onta Pay
Onta Pay is a mobile payment app that enables users to pay with cryptocurrency for everyday purchases via QR codes, NFC tap-to-pay, and peer-to-peer transfers. The app is a crypto wallet with card on-ramps and supports payments at merchants globally.
Onta Network
Onta Network is a payment network that bridges Web3 capital with Web2 commerce through regulation-aligned tools. It enables crypto payment acceptance, unified fiat and crypto account management, and flexible payouts, with on-chain compliance and privacy-preserving KYC.
Onta Network
Onta Network is a regulation-compliant payment infrastructure that enables crypto holders to spend digital assets at any merchant checkout while merchants receive fiat settlement—bridging Web3 wallets with the everyday commerce layer that billions of people already use.
The Problem
Cryptocurrency has achieved product-market fit in speculation and decentralized finance, but the conversion to real-world utility has stalled. For most holders, spending crypto means converting to fiat first, then paying—a friction-filled process that undermines the original promise of programmable money. At the same time, traditional payment rails remain expensive, slow, and largely inaccessible to populations in emerging markets such as Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, where banking infrastructure is thin but smartphone penetration is high. Onta Network is built around the premise that stablecoins—which processed $8.5 trillion in transaction volume in Q2 2024, more than double Visa's $3.9 trillion over the same period—have already proven their value as value-transfer tools; what is missing is the last-mile infrastructure connecting them to physical-world commerce.
How It Works
Every Onta payment involves five participants: the customer, the merchant, Onta Network, an acquiring bank, and an over-the-counter (OTC) service provider. The flow is straightforward. The merchant generates a dynamic QR code at checkout via an Onta terminal. The customer scans the code in the Onta Pay app, confirms the merchant and amount, selects a compatible wallet, and authorizes the transaction after completing a one-time identity verification. Onta Network receives the crypto payment and immediately notifies the acquirer. The incoming crypto is passed to an OTC partner for fiat conversion, and the acquirer settles with the merchant on a T+1 basis. Both parties receive confirmation. Merchants never handle cryptocurrency directly; customers never manually convert before spending.
Four-Layer Architecture
Onta Network organizes its technical stack into four modular layers:
Compliance Layer. On-chain compliance is handled through privacy-preserving KYC using Verifiable Credentials and Zero-Knowledge Proofs. A ZK verifier enforces transaction limits by verification tier, screens against sanctioned addresses, and maintains regulatory auditability without exposing personal data on-chain.
Payment Layer. A purpose-built Layer-2 optimized for payments delivers instant finality measured in milliseconds, zero gas fees for end users, and the throughput required for retail-volume commerce. The dedicated architecture minimizes failure points compared with general-purpose smart contract platforms.
Interaction Protocol. A universal wallet aggregation layer supports diverse Web3 wallets—including MetaMask and Trust Wallet—through a QR-based scan-and-pay interface that mirrors familiar Web2 checkout flows. A dual-mode design supports both crypto and fiat payment paths from the same terminal.
Product Suite. Modular SDKs and APIs allow acquirers and merchant platforms to integrate without rebuilding payment stacks. Region-specific toolkits handle localized QR formats and fiat settlement connectivity with acquiring banks.
Eight Core Technologies
Onta Network names eight proprietary components that make up the full stack:
- VaultLink — Passkey-secured smart wallets built on WebAuthn standards, storing cryptographic keys in the device secure enclave. Supports social login via Gmail and cross-device account recovery, removing the seed-phrase requirement for new users.
- NeuroID — A W3C-standard decentralized identity system using Verifiable Credentials. Users selectively disclose identity attributes via zero-knowledge proofs, keeping sensitive data off-chain while satisfying on-chain verification requirements.
- Sentinel — The protocol-level compliance engine combining identity verification with ZK privacy. It enforces transaction limits, blocks sanctioned wallets, and produces cryptographic audit trails for regulators without relying on centralized intermediaries.
- ZeroPulse — The stablecoin payment layer at the heart of every transaction. It delivers millisecond finality and zero gas fees while maintaining USDC on Solana as its primary reserve asset, enabling instant liquidity without cross-chain bridging complexity.
- TapCore — NFC tap-to-pay support for standard POS terminals without requiring specialized hardware. Also handles QR scanning. Eliminates traditional interchange fees and integrates into existing merchant workflows.
- CardHash — An algorithm that derives unique blockchain wallet addresses from payment card numbers via one-way hashing. It powers automatic crypto rewards and loyalty programs without exposing card details or allowing reverse-engineering.
- TraceShield — A transaction verification framework that records on-chain activity while protecting amounts and identities through zero-knowledge cryptography, giving regulators and auditors cryptographic assurance of system integrity.
- SyncMesh — Interoperability protocols for connecting to global financial networks. Creates direct settlement channels with international payment partners and exposes APIs that abstract blockchain complexity for traditional financial institutions.
Onta Pay App
The consumer-facing product is Onta Pay, a mobile application supporting three payment methods: scanning a merchant QR code, displaying a QR code for the merchant to scan, and NFC tap-to-pay at compatible terminals. The app doubles as a self-custody crypto wallet for storing and managing digital assets, and includes fiat on-ramp functionality allowing users to purchase cryptocurrency directly via credit or debit card. Peer-to-peer transfers between contacts are also supported.
Supported Assets and Solana Integration
Onta Network's primary reserve asset is USDC on Solana. ZeroPulse integrates directly with USDC reserves on Solana for instant liquidity, bypassing the cross-chain complexity that slows most multi-chain payment systems. The stablecoin-first approach is deliberate: volatile assets introduce settlement risk for merchants, whereas dollar-pegged stablecoins allow predictable fiat conversion at time of sale.
Geographic Focus
Initial markets include Singapore and Hong Kong, with Japan listed as coming soon. The PayNow integration in Singapore signals a hybrid strategy of connecting to established regional payment networks rather than requiring merchants to adopt entirely new infrastructure.
Security and Audit Status
Onta Network's documentation describes multiple security mechanisms—WebAuthn key storage in device secure enclaves, ZK proof verification for compliance, and on-chain cryptographic attestations through TraceShield—but does not reference formal third-party security audits as of the time of this writing. No bug bounty program is publicly documented.
Team and Background
The project was registered in September 2024. No team members or company background are disclosed in public-facing materials.
Solana Ecosystem Fit
Onta Network sits at the intersection of payments, stablecoin infrastructure, and merchant adoption—a category Solana has been actively pursuing through initiatives like the Solana Pay specification. By anchoring its liquidity layer to USDC on Solana and building a Layer-2 optimized for payment-specific throughput on top, Onta Network positions itself as a real-world commerce on-ramp that could expand the addressable use case for Solana-native stablecoins beyond DeFi. The focus on mobile-first markets in Asia, combined with NFC hardware integration and zero-fee transactions, targets the demographic and infrastructure conditions where stablecoin payments have the clearest near-term advantage over traditional banking rails.
