Omni Wallet

Omni Wallet is a self-custodial mobile wallet providing private key management and access to multiple blockchain networks. The app supports staking, liquid staking, yield vaults, token swaps, cross-chain bridging via LI.FI integration, NFT management, and dApp connectivity via WalletConnect. Users can import external wallets, create custom portfolios, purchase crypto with a credit card, and secure holdings with biometric authentication and optional Ledger Nano X hardware wallet support.

Omni

Omni is a non-custodial, multi-chain Web3 wallet that consolidates access to crypto assets, DeFi tools, staking, and NFTs across more than 25 blockchain networks into a single mobile application. Operating under the tagline "Web3 for All," Omni's central mission has been to make self-sovereign crypto management as simple and intuitive as using a traditional fintech app — without sacrificing user control over private keys.

Origins: From Steakwallet to Omni

The project launched in 2021 under the name Steakwallet, built by co-founders Serafin Lion Engel, Alex Harley, and James Stackhouse. The founding team identified staking as a core use case where non-custodial wallets could deliver real utility to everyday holders, not just DeFi power users. Steakwallet's early focus on native staking for Solana and other proof-of-stake networks distinguished it from wallets that treated staking as an afterthought.

In September 2022 the project rebranded to Omni, reflecting a broadened product vision that extended beyond staking to encompass swaps, bridges, lending, yield vaults, and NFT management. The rebrand coincided with a significant capital raise: Omni closed an $11 million seed round at a $50 million valuation, attracting backing from Spartan Group, GSR Ventures, Eden Block, Shima Capital, Figment Capital, Lattice Capital, Chorus One, MEXC Ventures, and several other funds. The round included an optional token side letter, leaving open the possibility of a future native token launch.

The Wallet: Key Features

Omni is available on iOS and Android. Supported networks include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, TON, TRON, NEAR, and more — all accessible from a single interface. The wallet stores and displays more than 10,000 coins and tokens across those networks.

Non-custodial security: Omni is a fully self-custodial wallet. Private keys never leave the user's device, secured by encryption, biometric authentication, and a 12-word recovery phrase. A 4-digit PIN provides an additional access layer. Users can sign in with Google or Apple for initial setup, though the underlying custody model keeps keys client-side throughout.

3-Tap Staking with Smart Delegation Protocol: One of Omni's most marketed differentiators is its staking UX. The wallet's proprietary Smart Delegation Protocol (SDP) allows users to start staking on supported networks in as few as three taps. For Solana specifically, Omni handles the technical complexity behind the scenes — merging previously unmerged stake accounts, issuing the correct split transactions when a partial unstake is requested, and sending push notifications when the four-day deactivation period ends and funds are ready to claim. This removes friction that typically causes retail holders to bypass native staking in favor of centralized alternatives.

Token swaps and cross-chain bridges: Omni integrates native token swap functionality alongside cross-chain bridging across major EVM-compatible networks and leading Layer 2s, allowing users to move assets across ecosystems without leaving the app.

Yield vaults and lending: Beyond simple staking, Omni offers access to yield vaults and lending markets, letting users put idle assets to work for potentially higher APR returns — DeFi access designed to be usable without prior DeFi experience.

NFT management: The wallet supports NFT storage and display from Ethereum, Solana, and other chains, with an option to personalize the wallet interface by setting an owned NFT as a background image or avatar.

Hardware wallet integration: Omni is compatible with Ledger devices. Users can sync their Ledger cold wallet to Omni and manage assets and NFTs on mobile while keeping private keys stored on hardware.

Wallet import: Existing wallet holders can import from MetaMask, Phantom, Rainbow, and other popular wallets without complex setup procedures.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Solana occupies a first-class position in Omni's product. Native SOL staking was among the earliest supported use cases, and the team has written publicly about the technical design decisions behind its Solana staking implementation — including how the wallet prevents stake account fragmentation and handles partial unstakes without requiring users to understand Solana's underlying account model. Omni's approach prioritizes single-transaction simplicity for end users regardless of what is happening under the hood on-chain.

Solana's fast finality, low fees, and large retail holder base align well with Omni's consumer-first positioning. The wallet's multi-chain architecture means Solana users can manage SOL staking alongside assets on Ethereum, Base, or other networks from the same app — a meaningfully different experience from ecosystem-specific wallets.

Infrastructure Evolution: Yield.xyz

After establishing the consumer wallet, Omni's team identified a deeper infrastructure opportunity. The accumulated engineering work required to aggregate staking rates, lending rates, and LP yield across dozens of protocols represented value that other developers could leverage via API — without rebuilding those integrations themselves.

By 2024 and into 2025, the team had pivoted the company toward this infrastructure layer under a new brand, Yield.xyz. The platform aggregates more than 200 DeFi yield sources — particularly strong on Solana — into a single unified API, giving wallet developers, crypto apps, and fintech companies a straightforward path to offering staking and yield products without managing fragmented protocol integrations. Yield.xyz co-founder Serafin Lion Engel described the problem the platform solves as eliminating "backend Frankensteins," the costly manual integrations that otherwise prevent non-crypto-native companies from offering yield features.

In June 2025, Yield.xyz closed a $5 million strategic funding round led by Multicoin Capital. By mid-2025 the platform was already powering yield infrastructure for Ledger, making it the largest yield supplier by number of integrations for that hardware wallet ecosystem. The funding was earmarked for expanding yield source coverage and building out automated yield rebalancing capabilities.

The company was also acquired in 2025 by Echo Base, the entity behind the peer-to-peer crypto marketplace Paxful, signaling broader expansion into the consumer crypto market.

Current Status

As of mid-2025, the Omni mobile wallet remains live and actively maintained — version 4.1.3 shipped in July 2025, introducing a redesigned interface with smoother animations and enhanced security features. The parent company's infrastructure pivot to Yield.xyz runs in parallel, meaning the wallet functions both as a consumer product in its own right and as a distribution channel demonstrating the yield aggregation capabilities the team now sells to other developers.

Omni represents a particular pattern in the Solana-adjacent ecosystem: a consumer wallet that lowered the barrier to native staking, built the engineering depth required to support 25+ chains, and then transformed that internal capability into a B2B yield data and infrastructure business — one with notable backing from top-tier investors in the Solana ecosystem, including Chorus One and Multicoin Capital.
