About

MaiCoin

MaiCoin Group is Taiwan's longest-running legal digital asset trading organization, having entered the market in 2013 before most governments had begun formulating cryptocurrency policy. Headquartered in Taipei and incorporated as Modernity Financial Holdings, Ltd., the group has grown from a single consumer trading platform into a multi-product fintech conglomerate spanning retail exchange, institutional custody, asset management, and Web3 infrastructure, reporting over one million users. The core problem MaiCoin addressed: Taiwanese retail investors had no trusted, locally regulated gateway to digital assets before MaiCoin launched — fiat on-ramps required routing through overseas exchanges with no local compliance oversight and no recourse under Taiwanese law. MaiCoin built a TWD-denominated trading environment compliant with Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), giving local users a lawful path to buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrencies without needing offshore accounts. The group operates several distinct products. MaiCoin is the consumer-facing retail trading platform launched in 2014, targeting users who want straightforward crypto purchases with New Taiwan Dollar deposits, emphasizing education and accessibility — including physical walk-in stores in Taipei and Taichung for face-to-face consultation. MAX Exchange, launched in 2018, is the full-featured centralized trading exchange that has become the group's flagship product and Taiwan's largest crypto exchange by trading volume, ranking in the global top 50. MAX offers spot trading across 34 or more cryptocurrencies with TWD, BTC, and USDT base pairs, as well as strategy trading bots, staking products, crypto-backed loans, and a MAX Convert feature (introduced May 2024) for instant conversions; mobile apps are available on iOS and Android. AMIS Technologies (established 2016) is the group's blockchain infrastructure and custody subsidiary, providing enterprise-grade custody services, security solutions, and private blockchain deployments; it was an early Enterprise Ethereum Alliance member. Qubic (launched 2021) is the group's Web3 arm, offering Qubic Wallet for non-custodial asset management and Qubic Creator, an NFT-as-a-service platform. MaiCapital Fund (established 2019) is a blockchain-focused asset manager regulated by Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), providing institutional investors with regulated digital asset exposure. MaiCoin Commonwealth is the group's public welfare NFT platform for charitable fundraising. On supported assets: MAX Exchange supports over 34 cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), Solana (SOL), XRP, Litecoin (LTC), and the platform's native MAX token; the only fiat currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (TWD), limiting access to users with a Taiwan National ID or Alien Resident Certificate. MaiCoin's Solana ecosystem integration goes beyond simply listing SOL: in July 2022, the group added support for SPL-USDC — USDC issued on the Solana blockchain — enabling users to deposit and withdraw USDC via the Solana network, making MaiCoin one of the earlier Taiwanese exchanges to recognize Solana as a practical settlement layer for stablecoins. SOL/USDT is a live trading pair on MAX Exchange today. Leadership: the group was founded and is led by Alexander S. Liu (previously Qualcomm, Samsung, Atheros), with Yu-Te Lin (CTO, ex-HTC, Oracle, Dell) and Ming-Hui Chen (General Manager, ex-Fubon Financial). Advisors include Vitalik Buterin (Ethereum co-founder), Charlie Lee (Litecoin creator), and Ken Wilcox (former chairman of Silicon Valley Bank). Security and compliance milestones include SOC 2 Type II certification (2021), ISO 27001 information security certification (2024-2025) across the entire company, FSC AML registration completed in 2025, and compliance with Taiwan's Virtual Asset Management Act (2025) requiring segregated user funds and local audit transparency. In June 2025 MAX was targeted by phishing attacks and responded by implementing 24-hour withdrawal freezes after password changes. Business milestones include a Series B+ fundraising round completed in 2024 and a Federal Bank partnership allowing credit card reward points to be redeemed for BTC, ETH, USDT, USDC, and MAX tokens.
