Holyheld Card
Holyheld Card is a crypto debit card that enables users to spend cryptocurrency at any Mastercard-accepting merchant directly from self-custodial wallets. Users can top up from multiple blockchain networks without bridging, use Apple Pay and Google Pay for contactless payments, and send SEPA transfers via a personal IBAN. The card operates through gasless transactions, allowing users to approve payments without paying gas fees.
Holyheld
Holyheld is a non-custodial crypto payment platform that bridges self-custody wallets to everyday fiat spending. The core product is a Mastercard debit card—available in 30+ European countries—that lets users convert crypto holdings to EUR and spend directly from their own wallets without ever surrendering custody of assets or private keys. The platform also issues each user a personal IBAN, enabling SEPA transfers and salary receipt within the same account.
The Problem It Solves
Traditional crypto-to-fiat off-ramps require sending funds to a centralized exchange, waiting for bank transfers, and spending from a custodial fiat account. Each step reintroduces risk and delay. Holyheld collapses this to a single wallet approval: connect a self-custodied wallet, authorize a conversion, and spend immediately. The platform never holds user crypto at rest; the conversion to fiat occurs atomically at settlement time.
How It Works: The BRRR Protocol
The technical backbone is the BRRR protocol (Blockchain Reconciliation and Remittance Record), an open-source modular settlement layer that Holyheld launched in April 2023. BRRR has since been spun out as infrastructure available to third-party payment integrators.
When a cardholder authorizes a top-up, BRRR detects incoming tokens on the chosen network, performs any required swaps and cross-chain routing, converts the proceeds to EUR, and reconciles the payment against Mastercard card network or SEPA rails—all in under two seconds. Users choose which tokens to spend at the moment of top-up; the system handles bridging and gas abstraction automatically. Transactions are gasless from the user perspective, removing the need to hold separate native tokens on each supported chain for fee payment.
The same protocol powers three product lines: an off-ramp (converting crypto to card spending balance), an on-ramp (funding DeFi positions with fiat), and an orchestration layer that routes across chains and protocols in a single multi-call transaction. By December 2024, BRRR had orchestrated over $100 million in volume since its April 2023 launch.
Key Features
Holyheld accounts come in three tiers—Classic (€29), Limited Edition (€99), and Metal (€199)—each a one-time purchase with no recurring monthly fee. All tiers include an instantly issued virtual account and an optional physical card. Metal cardholders earn 1% cashback in USDC on every purchase; Classic and Limited Edition earn 0.5%. Cashback is claimable on any supported network.
The personal IBAN included with each account enables SEPA transfers directly from the Holyheld app, covering rent, bills, and other recurring euro payments without converting to a separate bank account first.
Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported alongside the physical card. International payment fees run 2.5% plus €1; domestic conversion fees are zero. Daily card spending limits reach €10,000.
The holytag system assigns users a unique username for peer-to-peer transfers, replacing wallet addresses with short human-readable identifiers.
DeFi yield is built into the spending flow. Users can deposit USDC into Morpho vaults to earn variable APY and configure just-in-time unwinding to cover card spend—effectively letting yield offset everyday purchases while the principal remains in a non-custodial vault until the moment of settlement.
Supported Tokens and Networks
Holyheld supports 1,200+ tokens across 20+ blockchain networks. EVM chains covered include Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, and Hyperliquid. Non-EVM support includes Solana and Starknet, with continuous expansion on the roadmap.
Stablecoin support covers USDC and USDT across multiple networks, plus a broad range of ERC-20 tokens, wrapped assets, and yield-bearing positions from DeFi protocols including Morpho, Aave, and Yearn Finance.
Security and Compliance
Holyheld holds PCI DSS Level 1 certification—the highest tier for payment card processors—and operates as a Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO) member under VQF supervision in Switzerland, satisfying the compliance framework required for regulated consumer finance in Europe.
The non-custodial design prevents the platform from accessing user funds between transaction authorizations. Keys never leave the user wallet until a transaction is explicitly approved. Fiat balances held pending spend are maintained with regulated payment partners and covered by industry-standard fraud safeguards. On-chain transactions are insured up to $50,000. Additional controls include 3D Secure authentication, biometric login, passkey-based wallet access, and instant card freeze and unfreeze.
No dedicated smart contract audit reports are publicly documented in Holyheld GitHub repositories or official communications as of this writing.
Team and History
Holyheld was founded in 2022. The CEO is Anton Mozgovoy and the CTO is Dr. Anton Zagorodnikov. The BRRR protocol launched in April 2023 and passed $100 million in total orchestrated volume by late 2024.
In December 2024 Holyheld closed a seed funding round with participation from Toyota Ventures, Zee Prime Capital, Moonlanding Ventures, Tomahawk VC, Kosmos Ventures, Polygon, TempleDAO, and Prismatic Capital. Angel investors include contributors from Lido, Olympus, Superfluid, Inverse Finance, and Daedalus, among others. The company stated that capital would accelerate BRRR expansion to additional clients and payment networks globally.
Fit in the Solana Ecosystem
Holyheld explicitly names Solana as a supported network and partner, citing the chain's sub-second finality and sub-cent transaction fees as properties that enable real-time card-speed settlement. Users can top up Holyheld accounts with Solana-native tokens—including USDC and USDT issued on Solana—and route those funds to card spend without bridging to an EVM chain first. This makes Holyheld one of the few non-custodial debit card products to support the Solana token ecosystem directly for everyday fiat-equivalent spending, complementing the broader ecosystem of wallets, DeFi protocols, and yield products built on the network.
