Flipside API

Flipside API provides access to blockchain data, allowing users to execute SQL queries and retrieve data in JSON and CSV formats. It offers query result caching and detailed metadata for developers and analysts. The API supports R, Python, and JS SDKs.

Visit

LiveQuery

LiveQuery allows users to query external APIs directly within Flipside SQL queries, enabling the integration of data from nodes and third-party crypto data providers. This empowers developers and analysts to combine Flipside's curated blockchain data with real-time updates from external sources, creating unique insights and enhanced analysis.

Visit

Snowflake

Snowflake offers real-time, SQL-ready blockchain data to enterprises through the Snowflake Marketplace, eliminating the need for complex data management by providing access to curated data from protocols like Ethereum and Solana, allowing businesses to integrate blockchain insights into their existing infrastructure for informed decision-making.

Visit

Flipspace

Flipspace provides an analytics tools across multiple blockchains, enabling users to access curated data sets without managing nodes or data pipelines. Users can create unlimited queries and dashboards, explore third-party APIs, and download data.

Blockchain Analytics and Data on Flipside Crypto (feat. GJ Flannery, Flipside) - Solfate Podcast #43

Flipside Crypto: Powering Solana's Data Revolution ... At the forefront of this data revolution in the Solana ecosystem is Flipside Crypto, a company that has made it its mission to provide free, accessible blockchain data to analysts, developers, and projects alike.

About

Flipside

Flipside Crypto was a blockchain analytics platform founded in 2017 by Dave Balter, Eric Stone, and Jim Myers in Boston, Massachusetts. Over eight years it assembled one of the largest curated on-chain datasets in the industry — 7 trillion rows of blockchain data, 700 million resolved wallet identities, and coverage of 1,000+ protocols across DeFi, real-world assets, and stablecoins. The platform is no longer operating: Flipside sold its entire blockchain data business to SonarX on May 19, 2026, and its legacy Flipspace platform shut down on June 17, 2026. The company itself has pivoted to an unrelated enterprise AI product called edisyl; the official domain flipsidecrypto.xyz now redirects to edisyl.com.

Core Platform

Flipside's primary interface was Data Studio (also called Flipspace), a SQL-based analytics environment using the Snowflake query dialect. Unlike competitors that charged analysts directly, Flipside operated a protocol-sponsored model: blockchain projects funded data curation and analyst incentive pools, making the platform free for individual users. The free tier provided unlimited public queries, a free API, and chart-embedding capabilities. A Pro tier at $349 per month unlocked private queries, higher API throughput, and team collaboration features.

Curated tables came pre-labeled with protocol context, token prices, and decoded on-chain events, reducing the data-preparation work compared to querying unprocessed blockchain logs. Data was exposed through Snowflake, so analysts could connect directly from BI tools such as Tableau and Looker, or access it programmatically via the Flipside API.

Solana Data

Flipside was a significant provider of curated Solana analytics. Its Solana dataset was organized across several schema layers: core, defi, gov, nft, and price. View names carried content-type prefixes — fact_ tables recorded discrete on-chain events such as transactions and transfers; dim_ tables provided contextual reference data at the block or transaction level; ez_ tables offered pre-labeled, protocol-tagged views for analysts who wanted human-readable activity summaries. The Solana dataset had grown past 3 trillion rows by late 2025.

In October 2025, Flipside removed unsuccessful transactions from the primary Solana tables to improve query performance, while retaining failed transaction records in solana.core.fact_transactions and preserving fee data in the balance tables.

Bounty and Quest Programs

One of Flipside's most distinctive features was its analyst bounty economy. Blockchain protocols could sponsor analytical challenges — data questions that analysts competed to answer — with cash rewards distributed to top submissions. Flipside organized bounties into difficulty tiers (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and reported 150,000 bounty submissions at its 2022 peak. The model attracted data analysts who might otherwise not have engaged with on-chain tooling, creating a community of shared dashboards and reusable queries across the supported chains.

The platform also offered quests — structured learning exercises tied to specific blockchains or protocols — as an entry point for analysts new to SQL or to a given ecosystem.

FlipsideAI

In July 2025, Flipside launched FlipsideAI, an AI-powered intelligence layer that removed the requirement to write SQL. Users could query Flipside's underlying blockchain data through natural language prompts, receiving answers as text summaries, charts, or tables. FlipsideAI operated across 35+ blockchains and was accessible through Flipside's proprietary chat interface or via a published Model Context Protocol (MCP) server compatible with Claude, Gemini, and Cursor. The platform surfaced proprietary wallet-scoring signals — engagement scores predicting long-term activity, loyalty scores measuring commitment to specific protocols, quality scores separating genuine users from bots and Sybil addresses, and risk scores flagging manipulation-associated wallets — that protocols could use to target outreach and incentive campaigns.

Acquisition and Shutdown

On May 19, 2026, Flipside announced the sale of its blockchain data business in its entirety to SonarX, a blockchain data infrastructure company. The transaction transferred all customer contracts and renewal rights; SonarX reported that the acquisition doubled its enterprise customer base, which included traditional finance institutions. SonarX integrated Flipside's 700 million wallet identities, 7 trillion data rows, and 1,000+ protocol coverage into its own platform supporting 130+ blockchains. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Flipside CEO Dave Balter explained the pivot: the company came to believe the meaningful unsolved problem was not data access but organizational meaning — the tribal knowledge about how teams define metrics and interpret their own data. This drove the creation of edisyl, an enterprise AI platform applying entity-resolution and scoring techniques Flipside originally developed for blockchain address classification to enterprise data comprehension.

The Flipspace analytics platform shut down on June 17, 2026, completing the transition. Former Flipside customers were migrated to SonarX.
