On-chain activity
Definitive
Definitive is a decentralized exchange aggregator providing institutional-grade trade execution across multiple blockchains. The system routes orders across over 100 decentralized exchanges and offchain market makers through smart order routing algorithms. Users can place market, limit, TWAP, and stop orders while the platform manages gas costs through transaction sponsorship. The infrastructure includes automated slippage optimization, private order flow management, and real-time position tracking with profit and loss analytics. Access is available through web interface and programmatic API for automated trading strategies.

Definitive: Institutional-Grade DeFi Trading Across Every Chain
Definitive is a non-custodial, professional-grade trading platform built to bring institutional execution quality to on-chain markets. Founded in September 2022 and headquartered in Los Angeles, the platform was assembled by veterans of Coinbase's institutional trading desk — co-founders Jai Prasad, Blake Arnold, and Dennis Qian — who aimed to replicate the advanced order routing and analytics of centralized venues without surrendering custody or requiring KYC. The result is a multi-chain terminal that routes trades across nine blockchains, aggregates liquidity from more than 200 on-chain venues and private market makers, and fills orders with a 47-millisecond average latency at a 99.4% fill rate.
From Institutional Desks to Open DeFi
The platform's pedigree shapes its product philosophy. Where most DeFi aggregators optimize for simplicity, Definitive prioritizes precision: full order-book-style control over execution, automated algorithms for large or recurring trades, and post-trade reporting that satisfies institutional reconciliation requirements. Its target users range from DeFi hedge funds and DAO treasuries to high-net-worth individual traders who need more than a standard swap interface, and now to AI agents that need programmatic trade execution without custody exposure.
In November 2023, Definitive closed a $4.1 million Series A led by BlockTower Capital, with participation from Coinbase Ventures and CMT Digital, validating the institutional-DeFi positioning at a post-money valuation of approximately $9.6 million. The company has grown to roughly 16 people and in May 2025 announced a partnership with BlockFills to further enhance its automated trade-execution capabilities.
Products and Access Points
Definitive is accessible through multiple interfaces tailored to different workflows.
Prime is the flagship professional terminal, offering the full suite of order types, cross-chain routing, real-time analytics, and post-trade PnL dashboards. It is designed for power users who want CeFi-style order management without leaving self-custody.
Turbo is a streamlined web application that strips away complexity for traders who want fast execution without the full terminal overhead.
Mobile apps for iOS and Android bring core trade execution, portfolio tracking, and fill notifications to on-the-go traders, making real-time order management accessible outside a desktop environment.
Flash API exposes the entire execution infrastructure programmatically. Developers, quant funds, and AI agents can integrate Definitive's routing and algorithm engine directly into their own systems, with full support for all order types and chains.
Multi-Chain Reach and Liquidity Aggregation
Definitive currently spans nine networks: Base, Arbitrum, Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, BNB Chain, HyperEVM, and Solana. The multi-chain scope is not merely cosmetic — the platform maintains a unified interface that routes any trade to optimal liquidity regardless of which chain an asset lives on, and abstracts away gas management so users never need to manually fund gas wallets on each network.
Routing draws from more than 200 decentralized exchanges and 15-plus off-chain private market makers, including block-trade venues suited for large orders that would otherwise move prices on a public DEX. This aggregated liquidity model is the primary driver behind the platform's execution metrics: over $4.2 billion in all-time volume processed, with an average fill time of 47 milliseconds and a 30-day fill rate of 99.4%.
Order Types and Algorithms
Definitive supports a range of order types uncommon in retail DeFi interfaces:
- Market and Limit orders for standard execution or price-controlled fills
- TWAP (Time-Weighted Average Price) for spreading large orders across time to minimize market impact
- Stop Loss and Take Profit orders for automated risk management
- DCA (Dollar-Cost Averaging) for recurring buys or sells on a defined schedule
- Bracket orders (in development) that combine entry, take-profit, and stop-loss in a single configured position
All orders are executed on-chain through audited smart contracts, preserving the trust-minimized guarantees of DeFi while delivering the algorithmic sophistication usually reserved for centralized prime brokers.
Custody, Compliance, and Institutional Connectivity
The platform is fully non-custodial: Definitive never holds user funds or private keys. Execution is handled through a "whitelisted performer" architecture where pre-authorized addresses carry out trade actions on behalf of users, who retain placement and withdrawal control at all times. Users can also enable "Performer Addresses" to route trades through a proxy, adding a layer of on-chain privacy to the primary wallet.
Institutional connectivity is a differentiator. Definitive integrates natively with Fireblocks, Fordefi, Safe multisigs, and Squads — the leading Solana multisig standard — enabling fund managers and DAO treasuries to operate through their existing custody infrastructure rather than switching to a new signing flow.
Post-trade reporting is automated and exportable, providing fund-grade execution history and PnL reconciliation anchored to on-chain transaction data. This audit trail capability is meaningful for entities with fiduciary or regulatory reporting requirements.
Fee Structure and the EDGE Token
Definitive's base fee model is straightforward: zero fees on major assets and stablecoins traded on Ethereum, Base, Solana, and Arbitrum. For less common assets, fees range from 25 to 85 basis points depending on 30-day rolling volume and EDGE token staking status. Gas costs are sponsored across all supported chains.
The EDGE token is an ERC-20 issued on Base with a fixed total supply of one billion tokens. It serves as the platform's fee-discount and revenue-sharing mechanism. Stakers who maintain a minimum position of $200 in staked EDGE qualify for weekly rebates funded directly by protocol revenue and distributed as additional staked EDGE. Active traders in the staker pool receive an incremental share proportional to their trading volume. Staking also unlocks fee discounts of 40 to 50 percent on applicable trading pairs.
The revenue-backed distribution model ties token value directly to platform usage: as volume grows, rebates funded by fee revenue increase proportionally. This creates alignment between holders and the growth of the platform rather than relying on inflationary token emissions.
Solana Positioning
Solana is a first-class chain in the Definitive stack, not an afterthought added for coverage. The platform supports the full order-type suite — including TWAP and limit orders — on Solana, routes Solana trades through its aggregated liquidity pool, and supports Squads multisig custody natively for Solana-native institutions. Zero fees on major Solana assets and stablecoins make it one of the most cost-competitive institutional trading options available on the network.
For Solana-based DeFi funds, DAO treasuries, or active traders running large positions who need execution quality beyond a basic AMM swap, Definitive represents a purpose-built alternative that preserves the security properties of self-custody while delivering near-institutional fill performance.
