Cryptal Exchange
A centralized exchange where users trade spot markets and buy or sell instantly using bank transfers or cards. It provides live pricing, fees, and fiat withdrawal to bank accounts or cards.
Cryptal
Cryptal is a licensed cryptocurrency exchange and wallet service headquartered in Tbilisi, Georgia. Operating under the tagline "Buy easily, sell instantly," the platform is designed to serve as a practical on- and off-ramp between traditional fiat currencies and digital assets, with a particular emphasis on accessibility for Georgian and broader European Union users. The exchange traces its roots to 2018, when its parent entity CryptX established Georgia's first crypto over-the-counter (OTC) desk. The Cryptal retail brand launched in 2020, extending those services to individual customers through a full-featured spot exchange.
Background and Licensing
Cryptal positions itself as the leading licensed crypto exchange serving the Georgian market. The platform holds authorization from the Lithuanian Financial Crime Investigation Service (FCIS) under license number 0002-9404, which provides a regulatory basis for its EU-adjacent operations. The company employs between 11 and 50 staff across its Tbilisi headquarters, and its customer support team is available daily from 10:00 AM to midnight.
Georgia has become a notable crypto-friendly jurisdiction. According to the Chainalysis 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index, the country ranks third worldwide in per-capita crypto adoption, behind only Ukraine and Moldova. Cryptal sits at the center of this ecosystem as the only crypto exchange platform with a fully localized Georgian-language interface, including support for the Georgian script. The platform is also available in English and German.
How It Works
Cryptal offers two core trading modes. The first is Instant Trade, which allows users to buy or sell supported cryptocurrencies immediately at the current market price. This mode prioritizes speed and simplicity and carries no additional trading fee beyond the spread. The second is the Exchange order book, which supports both Market and Limit orders and charges a flat 0.25% fee for both makers and takers, consistent with traditional centralized exchange pricing.
For institutional or high-volume participants, Cryptal operates an OTC desk for large trades, reachable at [email protected]. This desk traces directly to the company's original CryptX OTC business, which predates the retail platform by several years.
Funding an account is possible via bank card (Visa or Mastercard at a 3% fee), wire transfer in Georgian Lari (free), or direct cryptocurrency deposit (free for incoming transfers). Withdrawal fees vary by method: 1.5% for USD wire, 2% for GEL wire, and variable blockchain network fees for crypto withdrawals. BTC withdrawals are set at a flat rate of 0.0005 BTC, which is below the global exchange average.
Supported Assets and Trading Pairs
Cryptal lists more than 28 cryptocurrencies and offers over 68 trading pairs. The asset roster includes Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Binance Coin (BNB), Cardano (ADA), Chainlink (LINK), Dai (DAI), Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), and several other established tokens. The inclusion of SOL gives Georgian and EU investors a straightforward licensed route to buy and sell Solana through a regulated entity, using local currency.
TOL Stablecoins
Among Cryptal's most distinctive features is its suite of proprietary stablecoins, known collectively as TOL Coins. These are internally issued tokens pegged 1:1 to three fiat currencies:
- TOGEL — pegged to the Georgian Lari (GEL)
- TOUSD — pegged to the US Dollar
- TOEUR — pegged to the Euro
TOL Coins are not traded externally in the same way as market stablecoins. Instead, they function as an internal account mechanism: when a user deposits fiat into their Cryptal wallet, the corresponding TOL stablecoin is automatically credited to their balance. A deposit of 100 GEL becomes 100 TOGEL; 100 USD becomes 100 TOUSD. Users can then swap, trade, or withdraw from that balance. The tokens are described as fully backed by cash reserves held by Cryptal. TOGEL is deployed on the Binance Smart Chain (BEP-20) at contract address 0x536475131db68e96179d00e7531b7af880857995.
The TOL stablecoin model is under regulatory scrutiny following Georgia's new stablecoin legislation enacted in 2025. A six-month transition period applies to companies that issued stablecoins before the law came into force, including Cryptal, requiring them to undergo a formal asset legalization procedure. That transition window is set to close in September 2026.
Security and Compliance
Cryptal maintains compliance with the ISO 27001 information security standard and the CryptoCurrency Security Standard (CCSS). Customer funds held on the platform are stored primarily in cold storage to reduce exposure to online threats. Two-factor authentication via Google Authenticator is mandatory for withdrawals and strongly recommended for all account logins.
Account verification follows a standard KYC process. Georgian residents complete identity verification using their national ID; non-residents must submit a valid passport. Verification typically takes approximately one business day. The platform does not accept users from 14 restricted countries, including the United States, Iran, and North Korea.
No third-party security audit reports are publicly available at the time of writing.
Products and Features
Beyond spot trading and OTC, Cryptal has expanded into adjacent financial products. Mobile applications are available for both iOS and Android, supporting the full range of buy, sell, and wallet management functions. The Plasma One Crypto Card is a crypto debit card that integrates with the Cryptal wallet, enabling everyday spending from a crypto balance with cashback rewards. Cryptal also publishes regular educational content on its blog, covering crypto basics, market commentary, and personal finance topics, targeted primarily at a Georgian and Central European audience.
Solana Fit
Cryptal's connection to the Solana ecosystem is that of a regulated access point rather than a native protocol participant. The exchange lists SOL alongside other major assets, giving users in Georgia and the EU a licensed, KYC-compliant venue to buy and sell Solana using fiat currency, including Georgian Lari, a currency pair absent from most global exchanges. For users in a high-adoption crypto market like Georgia looking for a regulated route into or out of SOL, Cryptal represents a local institutional-grade option. The platform does not deploy on-chain programs on Solana, does not participate in staking or DeFi on the network, and has no Solana-native smart contract presence.
Summary
Cryptal is a licensed Georgian cryptocurrency exchange serving individual and institutional users in Georgia and the EU. Founded as an OTC desk in 2018 under the CryptX brand, it evolved into a full retail exchange under the Cryptal name in 2020. Its core offering covers fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-crypto trading across 28-plus assets and 68-plus pairs, with the practical advantage of supporting Georgian Lari deposits and withdrawals, a rare feature globally. The platform's proprietary TOL stablecoin suite bridges traditional banking with crypto in the local market. Cryptal holds Lithuanian FCIS licensing, maintains ISO 27001 and CCSS security standards, and is actively navigating Georgia's evolving stablecoin regulatory framework.
