About

CoinStats

CoinStats is a crypto portfolio tracker and market data aggregator founded in 2017 by Narek Gevorgyan, who built the tool out of a personal need to consolidate holdings across multiple wallets without relying on spreadsheets. Over nearly a decade the platform has grown to serve more than one million active monthly users, supporting 120+ blockchains, 300+ wallets and centralized exchanges, and over 10,000 DeFi protocols.

What It Does

At its core, CoinStats lets users connect existing wallets and exchange accounts to a single dashboard that shows a unified view of balances, transaction history, and portfolio performance. Connections are read-only for tracking purposes: users provide API keys or public wallet addresses, so CoinStats never holds custody of assets in the tracking layer. Real-time profit and loss calculations, customizable price alerts, and curated news feeds round out the consumer-facing product. Mobile apps are available on iOS and Android, and a web interface is accessible from any browser.

Beyond tracking, CoinStats integrates a built-in swap interface, fiat on-ramp options, and an in-app earn feature, letting users execute basic transactions without leaving the platform. AI agents were added to the product to surface trade suggestions and market signals. The app also tracks NFT collections and DeFi positions automatically, detecting staking rewards, lending positions, and liquidity pool allocations through its protocol integrations.

Solana Support

CoinStats has dedicated infrastructure for Solana. Users can import any Solana wallet address and receive real-time balance updates across tokens, NFTs, and DeFi positions. The platform natively supports Phantom and OKX Wallet for Solana connections. On the DeFi side, the tracker resolves open positions across Solana-based protocols; Meteora, the Solana liquidity-layer protocol, was added as a tracked integration in mid-2025. CoinStats' Solana Transaction Explorer lets users browse the full transaction history for any Solana address.

The developer-facing CoinStats API also exposes dedicated Solana endpoints within its wallet data suite, returning token balances and transaction histories for Solana addresses in the same unified response format as other chains. This makes it useful for developers building Solana-aware portfolio tooling.

Developer API

CoinStats offers a standalone API product positioned as a unified data layer for builders. The API covers real-time and historical price data for 100,000+ tokens, OHLCV charts, wallet balances and transaction histories across 120+ chains (including Bitcoin xpub/ypub/zpub support), DeFi position detection, and token security screening powered by Hexens' Glider engine—which flags honeypots, hidden fees, and proxy vulnerabilities in smart contracts. Pricing is credit-based with a free tier available. As of 2025 the API also exposes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, enabling AI agents built on Claude, Cursor, and similar tools to query CoinStats data directly without custom integration work.

Business Model

CoinStats operates on a freemium model. The free tier covers a meaningful portion of features, including multi-wallet tracking, live pricing, news, and basic alerts. CoinStats Premium unlocks unlimited portfolio connections, extended transaction history (up to one million transactions), zero swap fees, AI-based NFT alerts, and an ad-free experience. The developer API has separate credit-based pricing.

Security Incident (June 2024)

On June 22, 2024, CoinStats detected a breach affecting its internal, non-custodial CoinStats Wallet product—a feature separate from its read-only wallet-tracking functionality. Attackers attributed to the North Korean Lazarus Group manipulated a CoinStats employee into downloading malicious software, which provided access to the company's AWS infrastructure and HashiCorp Vault instance storing wallet 2FA keys and third-party wallet-service provider credentials. Approximately 1,590 CoinStats Wallets were drained, with total losses estimated at around $2.2 million. This represented roughly 1.3% of all CoinStats Wallet accounts; portfolios connected for read-only tracking—covering the large majority of users—were not affected.

CoinStats took the platform offline immediately, engaged external security researchers, reported the incident to the FBI, and by July 3, 2024 had fully rebuilt the production environment on new AWS accounts with no legacy infrastructure retained. Post-incident remediation included mandatory password resets, enforced two-factor authentication, and comprehensive external audits.

Ecosystem Fit on Solana

Solana's account model and high transaction throughput make portfolio reconciliation non-trivial: wallets accumulate token accounts, closed positions, and program interactions at scale. CoinStats addresses this by resolving DeFi positions and NFTs automatically against its protocol database, reducing the manual work users would otherwise face pulling data from block explorers. The API's Solana support similarly benefits developers building analytics, tax tooling, or trading interfaces on top of Solana data without managing their own indexing infrastructure.

The product is chain-agnostic by design, which means Solana features are delivered alongside coverage for Ethereum, Bitcoin, and other major ecosystems rather than as a dedicated Solana-native application. Users who operate across multiple chains benefit from this consolidation, while users who want Solana-only specialized tooling may find purpose-built Solana dashboards more granular for specific protocols.
