Bongo AI is the AI side of Bongo Cat (BONGO), a meme coin on Solana. The coin is named after the Bongo Cat internet meme. It launched in late 2023 with no presale and no tokens kept for a team. In 2024 the project added Bongo AI, a small bot that posted music-themed content. It won an honourable mention in a Solana AI hackathon.

Today BONGO is mainly a community meme coin. In 2025 the team moved holders to a new token contract. Its main channel is the @TheBongoCat account on X. BONGO has no link to the free Bongo Cat game on Steam, which a separate studio makes.

What is the Bongo Cat (BONGO) meme coin?

BONGO is a plain Solana token with no app of its own. Its value rests on the Bongo Cat meme and the people who trade and promote it. Its CoinMarketCap listing calls it a "community-led, fair launch meme coin" with "no presale, team tokens, or centralized control". Total supply is just under one billion BONGO, all of it in circulation.

A fair launch means anyone could buy from the first trade. No early investors got a cheaper price. The first BONGO pool on Raydium RAY$1.86-16.4% opened on 23 December 2023, per DexScreener.

The meme itself is older than the coin. In May 2018 the artist @StrayRogue posted a GIF of a cat-like blob slapping a table. Another user, @DitzyFlama, added bongos and a Mario tune, and the clip went viral, per Wikipedia. We found no evidence that either creator is involved in the BONGO token.

BONGO had its biggest run during the AI agent token craze around the turn of 2025. An OKX explainer put its market cap at about $35 million in June 2025. The page widgets show live market data.

Bongo AI agent: what the Bongo Cat AI did

Bongo AI was a small social bot that posted music content as Bongo Cat. It lives at ai.thebongocat.com. It is the reason the project calls itself an AI agent. In December 2024 it won an honourable mention in the Meme Agent track of the Solana AI Hackathon, per Odaily's write-up of the results. Odaily called it a "mini social agent" for the music cat.

In August 2025, an article on Gate's crypto wiki described bigger plans. Users would play along with the agent by rhythm, voice or keyboard and earn BONGO for it. A test version was due by the end of September 2025. The article also described a "Cat Universe" NFT series, meant to double as voting passes for a future BONGO DAO.

We found no public sign that any of these launched. In October 2026 the agent site shows little beyond its title. We found no posts in the past year from @BongoCatAI, the X account Odaily named. The 2026 posts on @TheBongoCat cover memes and the token swap. None announce new AI features.

BONGO token swap and new contract address

The current BONGO contract address on Solana is HPJALtLtydXym5Tbv6udQCKcXSihnz3B7aD3PNMNbonk. In September 2025 the team announced a one-for-one swap from the original token to this new one. It later posted the same address on X when asking CoinMarketCap to update its listing. The old token still trades in a small pool, so check the address before you buy.

The swap cost BONGO an exchange listing. MEXC said it would not support the swap and would delist BONGO, and trading there ended at the end of that month. Neither MEXC nor the project gave a public reason.

The new token, BONGO, has pools on Raydium and Orca ORCA$1.79-1.6%, according to DexScreener. The team describes the move as a migration into the Bonk Bonk$0.00000303-0.8% ecosystem.

The migration has dragged on. Early in 2026 the team told holders who had not swapped to check their messages. By August 2026 it was still asking late holders to reply on X or join its Telegram to swap.

If you hold the old token, the project's X account is the only official route the team has named. Be wary of anyone who messages you first offering to swap your tokens. Scammers often target migrations, and only the team's own posts confirm what is real.

Is the Bongo Cat Steam game linked to the BONGO coin?

No. Irox Games makes the free Bongo Cat game on Steam, which came out on 5 March 2025. Its Steam store page makes no mention of crypto, tokens, NFTs or blockchain. The game's hats and skins trade on the Steam Marketplace, not on Solana.

Some crypto write-ups have tied the game's popularity to the token. The OKX explainer said the game drove interest in BONGO. That describes shared attention, and OKX cited no partnership. We found no announcement from Irox Games or the BONGO team showing a formal link.

The same split answers a common search: "is Bongo Cat a crypto miner?" The Steam game is a desktop idle game, and its store page lists no crypto features. BONGO is a token you buy and hold in a Solana wallet; it does not run on your computer.

Several other Solana tokens also use the Bongo Cat name, including pump.fun launches with tickers like BONGOCAT. They are separate coins. The contract address in the swap section above is the one the @TheBongoCat account names.

Who BONGO suits

BONGO suits people who want a small cat meme coin on Solana and accept that it is mostly a bet on attention. It has no revenue, no staking and no AI feature you can use. Its appeal is the meme itself, a holder base that dates to 2023, and a team account that still posts.

It is a poor fit if you want the AI agent exposure the project marketed in 2024 and 2025. The interactive agent and NFT plans described in 2025 have not shipped. It is also a poor fit if you need to exit large positions quickly. The token is now off at least one major centralised exchange, and on-chain trading volume is thin.

If you hold the original token and never swapped, BONGO also suits you in a narrower sense: the team was still processing migrations in August 2026.

Is Bongo Cat (BONGO) safe? Risks to know

BONGO has no published security audit. It is a plain token with no code of its own, so bugs are a small worry. The bigger risks are thin trading, a few large holders, swap mix-ups and copycat tokens.

HashEx's automated token scan of the original contract found that no one can mint more tokens or freeze holders' wallets. It also flagged "high centralization risk" in how the tokens are spread across wallets. That scan covers the old contract only. We did not find an equivalent check of the new one.

DexScreener showed under $20 of daily volume on the new contract's main pools in mid-October 2026. In a market that thin, a single large sale can move the price a long way.

Two official contracts and several unrelated Bongo Cat tokens make it easy to buy the wrong one. Fake swap offers are a common scam during migrations.

Is the Bongo Cat project still active?

The project's main site, thebongocat.com, returned a server error when we checked in October 2026. The AI agent site is mostly empty. The X account remains active, but the project names no team in the sources we reviewed.
