BandChain
BandChain is a blockchain built using the Cosmos SDK and optimized for oracle data requests and computations. The network uses delegated proof-of-stake consensus with validators staking BAND tokens to secure the network and process data requests. BandChain achieves average block finality of 3 seconds and resolves data requests in under 6 seconds through its specialized architecture for oracle operations.
Band Protocol
Band Protocol — now rebranded simply as Band — is a decentralized cross-chain data oracle platform built on the Cosmos SDK. Founded in 2018, it operates as the "Unified Data Layer for AI and Web3": infrastructure that delivers verified real-world data to smart contracts across more than 40 blockchain networks.
Core Infrastructure
BandChain is Band's dedicated Layer 1 blockchain, built on the Cosmos SDK. It acts as the data aggregation and verification hub: validators query multiple external data sources, reach consensus, and relay verified results to destination chains.
In July 2025, the project launched BandChain v3 on mainnet — its most significant upgrade to date. Three major architectural changes shipped with v3:
Speed: Block confirmation times dropped from 6 seconds to 1 second, a 3x acceleration enabling high-frequency data updates suited to institutional DeFi and professional trading applications.
Capacity: Symbol support increased 10x, allowing the network to carry price feeds for a far broader range of assets within a single consensus round.
Security: The network introduced Threshold Signature Schemes (TSS) for cross-chain message proofs, reducing proof sizes while strengthening cryptographic guarantees across the protocol.
The v3 upgrade also added a custom mempool with dedicated transaction lanes, ensuring that critical data submissions — such as price feeds from validators — are prioritized and protected from spam or congestion.
Product Suite
Data Feed (Concurrent Price Stream)
The Concurrent Price Stream is Band's flagship oracle product: an open, permissionless system for on-chain price signaling. Projects can apply to have tokens listed via the Signaling Hub, where BAND token holders vote to allocate feed slots. Validators then aggregate price data from multiple trusted sources — including CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, and major centralized exchanges — reach consensus on BandChain, and relay verified outputs cross-chain.
Cross-chain delivery uses the Data Tunnel, which supports IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication), IBC-Hook, and Router Protocol bridges, covering Cosmos-native chains and non-IBC networks alike.
Verifiable Random Function (VRF)
Band's VRF provides provably fair, tamper-proof randomness to smart contracts. It targets gaming applications, NFT minting, on-chain lotteries, and any use case requiring bias-resistant randomness. The verifiable nature of Band's VRF allows any party to confirm mathematically that outputs were not manipulated.
Membit
Launched in August 2025, Membit is Band's entry into AI infrastructure. It operates as a Context Layer for AI — a system that aggregates and curates real-time social data and emerging trends so that large language models have access to current context rather than stale training data.
Membit relies on a community of "Data Hunters" who identify, verify, and surface relevant content from online conversations. Contributors earn rewards through participation. For AI developers, Membit functions as a Context-as-a-Service platform, delivering continuously-updated, clustered social intelligence that AI agents can consume directly.
How the Oracle Mechanism Works
Any data request processed by BandChain flows through five stages:
- Collection: Validators query multiple independent data sources.
- Consensus: Validators aggregate results and agree on a value using BandChain's delegated proof-of-stake mechanism.
- Aggregation: The network produces a single verified data point.
- Cross-Chain Relay: Verified data transmits to the requesting blockchain via IBC, IBC-Hook, or bridge protocol.
- Smart Contract Access: Developers read the verified value from Band's deployed reference contract.
This multi-source, multi-validator design eliminates single points of failure. In its Arc testnet integration, Band supplies USDC price data by having validators query CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, and exchange APIs before writing a consensus price to a reference contract that Arc developers query directly.
BAND Token
BAND is the native utility token of BandChain with three primary functions:
- Network security: Validators must stake BAND to participate in consensus, with slashing penalties for misbehavior.
- Delegation: Token holders can delegate stake to validators and earn a share of query fees and block rewards.
- Governance: BAND holders vote on protocol parameters and which token symbols receive price feeds through the Signaling Hub.
Ecosystem and Integrations
As of mid-2026, Band's oracle network spans more than 40 blockchains, serves more than 82 clients and partners, and is supported by 52 or more active validators. Named partners include Coinjar, Bitget, Nansen, Router Protocol, XRPL, Cronos, Conflux, and Neutron. Band is listed as a Solana ecosystem project and delivers cross-chain data to Solana, Ethereum, and BNB Chain through Router Protocol bridges.
Ongoing expansions include live price feeds on the TRON testnet — initially covering 13 asset pairs including BTC, ETH, TRX, USDC, and USDT — with mainnet deployment planned once testnet validation is complete.
Rebrand
In August 2025, the project officially dropped "Protocol" from its name, becoming Band. The rebrand coincided with the Membit launch and a strategic pivot toward positioning the platform as shared infrastructure for both blockchain applications and AI systems — captured in the updated tagline "Unified Data Layer for AI and Web3."
