BandChain
BandChain is a blockchain built using the Cosmos SDK and optimized for oracle data requests and computations. The network uses delegated proof-of-stake consensus with validators staking BAND tokens to secure the network and process data requests. BandChain achieves average block finality of 3 seconds and resolves data requests in under 6 seconds through its specialized architecture for oracle operations.
Band Protocol
Band Protocol is a decentralized data infrastructure platform that connects blockchain applications to real-world information. Founded in 2018 and built around BandChain — an independent blockchain based on the Cosmos SDK — it provides smart contracts on dozens of networks with reliable, cryptographically verified data. In August 2025 the project rebranded from Band Protocol to simply Band, reflecting a strategic expansion beyond traditional oracle services toward a broader positioning as a unified data layer for AI and Web3.
How the Oracle Works
When a decentralized application needs external data, it submits a request to BandChain. A randomized subset of validators retrieves that data from the sources specified in the oracle script, reports their findings back to the chain, and BandChain aggregates the responses according to the parameters set in that script. The network stores the final result and generates an oracle proof that can be verified on any connected blockchain. Because validation happens on BandChain rather than the destination chain, the process is blockchain-agnostic: a single oracle infrastructure serves dozens of ecosystems simultaneously.
BandChain uses a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism. Validators must stake BAND tokens to participate, creating economic incentives that discourage manipulation. Token holders who do not run nodes can delegate their BAND to validators, earning a share of rewards while strengthening network security.
Band Oracle v3
The most significant technical upgrade in Band's history launched on mainnet in late July 2025. Band Oracle v3 restructures the network around three interconnected components.
The Signaling Hub lets BAND stakers vote on which price feed symbols — up to 1,000 at a time — the network should actively support, making feed coverage a governance function rather than a product decision.
Concurrent Price Streams allow BandChain validators to report prices up to once per second, bringing block times down to one second — a 3x improvement over the previous six-second target — and increasing daily throughput by an order of magnitude.
Data Tunnels handle the final step of routing aggregated data to destination chains. Version 3 ships with three relay options: IBC-Hook for direct smart contract calls on IBC-compatible Cosmos chains, Router Protocol for EVM networks that lack IBC support, and Axelar Network for additional cross-chain reach.
The upgrade also introduced Threshold Signature Scheme (TSS) cryptography, which produces a single compact signature attesting to any data point rather than requiring each validator to submit an individual proof. This reduces on-chain verification costs by roughly 90%, making Band price feeds economically practical even on chains with high gas costs.
Version 3 moved Band's standard price feeds to a free model. The protocol now charges for data validation at the infrastructure level rather than per request, removing friction for DeFi protocols and making Band competitive for teams that previously found per-call oracle fees prohibitive. Integration setup was reduced to approximately ten minutes via a web UI.
Product Suite
Beyond its core price feeds, Band offers several additional data services.
Verifiable Random Function (VRF) gives blockchain applications a source of provably fair randomness. The output is publicly verifiable and tamper-proof, making it suitable for on-chain lotteries, NFT trait generation, and competitive gaming mechanics where players must be able to confirm the draw was not manipulated.
Membit is Band's AI-focused product, launched in public beta during Q3 2025. It functions as a decentralized context layer for large language models, recruiting community contributors called Data Hunters who curate and verify real-world information to keep AI knowledge bases current. Membit Insight, a market intelligence tool, followed in January 2026, and the first Membit season reward claim portal went live in February 2026.
In April 2026 Band announced Delphi, a novel product offering future price prediction feeds — extending the oracle's output from current prices to forward-looking market signals.
In July 2026 the protocol rolled out tokenized equity price feeds, publishing on-chain prices for stocks including Apple and Tesla to power DeFi instruments tied to traditional equity markets.
BAND Token
BAND is the native utility and governance token of BandChain, with a maximum supply of 100 million tokens. The protocol uses an inflationary model where annual inflation fluctuates between 7% and 20% to incentivize staking. The system self-adjusts inflation to target approximately 66% of the circulating supply remaining staked at all times.
BAND exists in two forms: an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and a native mainnet token on BandChain, interchangeable at a 1:1 ratio. Only the native mainnet version can be staked for validation rewards and governance participation. Token holders vote on feed inclusion through the Signaling Hub, making stakers the direct governors of which price data the network prioritizes. A portion of block rewards — 2% — flows into a community funding pool rather than going entirely to validators and delegators.
Ecosystem and Integrations
As of mid-2026, Band's oracle infrastructure is active on more than 62 blockchain ecosystems. Named integrations span a broad range of network types: Monad, TRON, Stellar, XRPL, COTI, Cronos, Conflux, Neutron, Arc, Sonic, and Babylon Genesis — the first Bitcoin-secured network to carry Band price feeds. On Monad's testnet, Band's price feeds for BTC, ETH, SOL, USDC, and USDT went live as part of the broader ecosystem launch, providing Monad DeFi developers with oracle access from day one.
Solana is part of Band's supported ecosystem. Band's cross-chain routing via Router Protocol is designed to carry data to non-IBC environments, which includes Solana's architecture. SOL price data is part of Band's live feed catalog, available to any chain that connects to BandChain's data tunnels.
Partners across the broader ecosystem include exchange platforms such as Bitget and Coinjar, analytics providers including Nansen, and wallet integrations through Atomic Wallet. The network reports more than 82 clients and partners, $185 million in total value secured across on-chain assets, and a validator set exceeding 52 active nodes.
Architecture and Security
BandChain is built on the Cosmos SDK and uses Tendermint Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus, providing fast finality alongside DPoS security. Oracle scripts are written in WebAssembly, allowing developers to specify which data sources to query, how many validators must respond, and how responses are aggregated before a result is accepted.
The TSS cryptographic model introduced in v3 ensures that every data point carries a verifiable signature from the validator set, giving downstream smart contracts an auditable record of how the data was sourced and aggregated. The network's security relies on economic incentives through staking combined with slashing mechanisms that penalize validators for misbehavior or reporting inaccurate data.

Team and Background
Band Protocol was founded in 2018 and has operated as a community-governed network throughout its history. The project has expanded from an Ethereum-native oracle concept to an independent Cosmos-based blockchain capable of serving data to any chain that can receive IBC messages or connect through cross-chain bridge protocols. The August 2025 rebrand to Band marked a pivot toward positioning the network as foundational data infrastructure for AI pipelines alongside its traditional price feed use cases.
