AEON Payment Protocol
Cross-chain payment infrastructure enabling merchants and apps to accept crypto and fiat with one SDK.
AEON
AEON
AEON is a multi-chain payment orchestration and settlement protocol that lets users pay with cryptocurrency while merchants receive fiat, and equips AI agents with the infrastructure to conduct autonomous real-world transactions. Founded in September 2023, the project has grown into a payments middleware layer connecting crypto wallets, blockchain networks, and over 50 million offline and online merchant terminals globally.
The Core Problem
Most crypto payment attempts collide with two walls: merchants do not want to hold or handle digital assets, and the technical complexity of cross-chain settlement makes integration prohibitively difficult for businesses. AEON addresses both by sitting between the user's wallet and the merchant's point-of-sale or checkout page, converting crypto transactions into fiat settlement in real time. The merchant never touches crypto; the user never touches traditional finance.
How AEON Works
The protocol runs a three-layer architecture. The Client Layer accepts payment requests from websites, mobile apps, wallets, AI agents, and point-of-sale terminals. The Network Layer routes those requests through master nodes that verify off-chain information and match it with on-chain activity. The Execution Layer uses a Delegated Proof of Stake mechanism where validators approve and settle transactions, with cross-chain verification handled via light clients on each supported blockchain.
AEON describes this as "adaptive finality" — confirmation requirements flex according to each network's security model rather than applying a one-size rule.
The platform runs across BNB Chain, Solana, TON, TRON, Stellar, Algorand, and EVM-compatible chains. On Solana specifically, AEON integrates with Solana Pay, allowing merchants already in that ecosystem to receive AEON-routed crypto transactions without additional infrastructure changes.
Three Products
AEON Pay is the QR code-based retail product. Users open the AEON Pay wallet, scan a merchant code, and complete the transaction in crypto. The merchant receives local currency. The protocol has rolled this out in the Philippines, Nigeria, Mexico, Brazil, Georgia, and Peru. Demonstrated deployments include global brands — McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, and UNIQLO are among the named merchant partners.
AEON Checkout is the online commerce layer. It offers a Stripe-like integration for websites and apps, letting any e-commerce platform add crypto payment options through a standard checkout widget. The platform describes it as abstracting away chain selection, wallet compatibility, and gas management from both merchants and end users.
AEON AI Payment is the newest and most strategically prominent product. It provides infrastructure for AI agents to search, compare, purchase, and pay autonomously — across digital storefronts and physical retail — without requiring a human to authorize each step. The AI Payment Framework (APF) translates natural-language or programmatic instructions into transaction parameters with zero-knowledge proof authorization. Spending limits, merchant whitelists, and transaction frequency controls constrain agent behavior. AEON also developed a Know Your Agent (KYA) standard to give each AI agent a verifiable on-chain identity, addressing the question of accountability in agentic commerce.
The AI payment stack integrates three machine-readable standards: the x402 protocol (based on the HTTP 402 status code), which lets web services signal payment requirements directly to agents; ERC-8004, which generates verifiable on-chain receipts; and Google's AP2 standard for agent-to-payment communication.
Scale and Traction
By end of 2025, AEON reported 5.7 million transactions processed and $263 million in total payment volume. The user base reached 1.8 million globally, with 120,000 community members. The merchant network exceeded 50 million terminals. More recent figures from mid-2026 cite approximately 30 million transactions processed monthly. AEON's integration footprint spans leading wallets including Binance Wallet, OKX Wallet, and Bitget Wallet, alongside Solana Pay, KuCoin, Bybit, and others.
The project won BNB Chain's Most Valuable Builder (MVB) Season 10 program and reached the top five at the NEXUS Startup Competition at Token2049.
AEON Token
The AEON token has a fixed supply of 1 billion and is deployed on BNB Chain, Solana, TON, and EVM-compatible networks. It serves three functions: gas for protocol transactions, staking collateral for network validators (master nodes require a 1 million AEON minimum; execution validators require 100,000), and governance voting. The protocol also runs a token buyback program funded by protocol revenue.
Funding
In May 2026, AEON closed an $8 million pre-seed round led by YZi Labs — Binance's venture arm — with participation from IDG Capital, HashKey Capital, the Stanford Blockchain Builders Fund, and Oak Grove Ventures. The company stated the capital will be deployed toward expanding the settlement infrastructure for agentic commerce and building out the Know Your Agent authentication standard.
Context
AEON sits at an intersection that has become increasingly contested in 2025 and 2026: the question of who builds the payment rail for AI agents. The project's bet is that physical retail — not just web3 platforms — is the terminal destination for autonomous spending. A Philippines demonstration in August 2026 showed an AI agent using a stablecoin balance to purchase goods at a physical store, encapsulating the directional claim: the same QR infrastructure already deployed for human users can route an agent's transaction with no additional hardware required.
Whether AI-agent commerce scales to the point where the settlement layer becomes commodity infrastructure or a winner-take-most competition remains open. AEON is presently one of the best-funded and most deployed projects making that specific bet.
