MoneyGram Ramps Comes to Solana, Opening Cash Access in 170+ Countries
MoneyGram Ramps is live on Solana, giving wallets, exchanges, and developers
MoneyGram has extended its Ramps API to Solana, giving wallets, exchanges, and developers access to the company's cash network spanning 170+ countries and territories through a single integration. The service was previously available only on Stellar; it is now live for Solana wallets, exchanges, and app builders.
The service lets users convert digital assets into local currency at MoneyGram agent locations, or deposit cash to acquire digital assets. Ramps supports cash deposits in more than 25 countries and cash withdrawals across more than 170 countries and territories, per the official Solana Foundation announcement.
What MoneyGram Ramps Offers Solana Wallets and Developers
For developers, Ramps removes the most common barrier to adding fiat conversion: instead of negotiating separate banking integrations or building local cash infrastructure market by market, an app on Solana accesses a full on-ramp and off-ramp service through one API. MoneyGram provides SDKs alongside instant sandbox credentials, letting teams test integrations before going live.
The service settles in USDC (USDC) on Solana. Rift wallet became the first application on the network to integrate Ramps following the launch.
Ramps is accessible through the Solana Developer Platform at platform.solana.com, sitting alongside issuance, wallet management, and other infrastructure modules.
Cash Conversion Across MoneyGram's 60 Million Active Customers
MoneyGram operates one of the largest cash-agent networks in the world, with roughly 60 million active customers globally. That footprint gives Solana apps access to a cash-in and cash-out layer in markets where crypto-to-bank transfers are slow, expensive, or unavailable.
The company cites several uses the service is built around: cross-border remittances, payroll for gig and distributed workers settling in stablecoins, and rapid aid disbursement into underserved regions. In each case, the recipient can convert to local currency at a MoneyGram outlet without a bank account or exchange account of their own.
Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, described the integration in terms of the network's reach: "Solana is infrastructure for the more than six billion people on the internet, powering a faster, more open, global financial system."
MoneyGram's Solana Journey: From Stellar USDC Ramps to Validator to Developer API
This launch follows several months of growing engagement between MoneyGram and the Solana ecosystem. In June 2026, the company became a Solana validator, participating directly in consensus and block production alongside Mastercard, Western Union, and Worldpay as Solana Developer Platform members.
MoneyGram's earlier blockchain work ran on Stellar. In 2022, the company partnered with the Stellar Development Foundation to let users move between cash and Circle's USDC through its retail network, making physical cash-in and cash-out available to crypto wallets within its system for the first time. The Ramps product grew from that infrastructure.
In June 2026, MoneyGram launched MGUSD, its own dollar-backed stablecoin, issued by Bridge, the stablecoin infrastructure company owned by Stripe, initially on the Stellar network. The Solana expansion represents a multi-chain strategy rather than a departure from Stellar. MoneyGram was also named as a partner in Open USD, the Stripe-led stablecoin consortium that shares revenue with a network of backers.
Physical Cash as an Off-Chain Exit for Stablecoin Payments
The Ramps extension reflects a shift in how payment companies are approaching stablecoin infrastructure. Dollar-pegged tokens are increasingly used for remittances and business transfers, allowing settlement without routing through chains of correspondent banks. MoneyGram's contribution is the physical layer: agent locations where someone holding digital assets in a wallet can convert to local currency without a bank account.
MoneyGram has framed its approach around keeping blockchain invisible to end users. CEO Anthony Soohoo has said that blockchain works best when customers are unaware of the technology behind a transaction. Ramps fits that model: the consumer interacts with a familiar MoneyGram location, while the backend settles on-chain.
For Solana wallet developers, the API means physical cash access is one integration away, rather than requiring separate agreements with regional payment partners or local cash networks across dozens of countries.
