Update Solana token metadata

Change your SPL token's name, symbol, description, links or logo. The tool re-uploads the metadata and image to permanent Arweave storage via Irys, then points your token at it — all signed in your own wallet.

  • Edit name, symbol, description, website, Twitter and logo
  • Fixes tokens that show as "unknown" or have a broken logo
  • Metadata & image re-uploaded to Arweave via client-side Irys
  • Requires you still hold the metadata update authority

How updating token metadata works

A token's name, symbol and logo come from its Metaplex metadata account, which stores the display fields and a URI pointing to a JSON file with the logo image. To change any of them, you rewrite that account with an UpdateMetadataAccountV2 instruction. This tool builds the new metadata JSON, uploads it — along with a new logo if you provide one — to permanent Arweave storage through a client-side Irys flow your wallet pays for and signs, then updates the token to point at the fresh URI.

Because the upload is client-side, there is no server holding your keys, and the logo is compressed under Irys' free tier so most updates never need a separate funding step. You keep the update authority afterward, so the token stays editable — it does not become immutable unless you choose to make it immutable separately.

Fixing a token that shows as "unknown"

If your token displays with no name or a missing logo in wallets and explorers, the usual causes are: it never had a metadata account, the logo URI is broken, or the image was hosted somewhere that has since expired. Re-running the update with a permanently-hosted Arweave image URI resolves all three. The one requirement is that your connected wallet holds the metadata update authority; if it was revoked or belongs to someone else, the metadata is locked.

Keep it editable, or lock it. This tool leaves your update authority intact so you can edit again later. When the details are final and you want to prove the identity can't change, use make token immutable.

Update token metadata: FAQ

How do I update my token's name or logo?

Paste the mint address, connect the wallet holding the update authority, enter the new details, and sign. The tool re-uploads to Arweave and points the token at the new metadata.

Why does my token show as "unknown"?

It has no metadata, or its logo URI is broken or expired. Updating with a fresh permanently-hosted image fixes the display.

Can I update a token I didn't create?

Only if your wallet holds the metadata update authority. If it was revoked or belongs to another wallet, you can't change the metadata.

What does it cost?

A small service fee plus the Solana network fee, charged only when the update succeeds. The Arweave upload is usually free under Irys' free tier. We don't keep the fee — see how this tool's fees benefit compassSOL stakers.
