Unmarshal

Status: appears inactive. Unmarshal was a multi-chain blockchain data indexing network that turned raw on-chain data into structured feeds for DeFi applications, and Solana was one of the chains it supported. As of September 2026 the project's public infrastructure is largely offline, so treat it as discontinued unless the team announces otherwise.

Evidence of inactivity

When checked in September 2026:

• The main website, unmarshal.io, returned HTTP 404 on both the root and www addresses.
• The documentation (docs.unmarshal.io), blog (blog.unmarshal.io) and whitepaper (whitepaper.unmarshal.io) subdomains no longer resolve in DNS.
• The project's X account, @UnmarshalAI, returned no posts from the previous 12 months.

We found no formal shutdown announcement. The MARSH token is still listed on data aggregators such as CoinMarketCap, but that listing on its own does not show the product is still running.

What Unmarshal was

Unmarshal described itself as a chain-agnostic protocol made up of a network of blockchain indexers. Its goal was to save developers from decoding raw blockchain data themselves. According to its GitBook documentation, it delivered decoded, structured data through APIs, WebSockets and notifications. The target users were:

• Wallets, which could track balances and transaction history.
• DeFi protocols, which could monitor volumes and user positions.
• Exchanges, which could pull token metrics and price trends.
• Investors, who got analytics dashboards.

Third-party overviews also mention DeFi and NFT APIs, a notification service and profit-and-loss tracking (NOWPayments). Over time the list of supported chains grew from Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polkadot and Solana to a range of EVM networks. In what appears to be its last strategic update, Unmarshal said it was repositioning as an "intelligence layer" for AI agents in crypto. The idea was to offer context-enriched data pipelines that autonomous trading and portfolio agents could query (Unmarshal on Medium). Its most recent listing tagline pointed to a planned move toward a "community-owned AVS-based hybrid blockchain". We found no evidence that this ever launched.

MARSH token

MARSH is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum (contract 0x5a666c7d92E5fA7Edcb6390E4efD6d0CDd69cF37) with a maximum supply of 100 million. It is not a Solana token. The documentation describes three uses for it:

• Payment: data consumers pay for queries in MARSH.
• Staking: indexers, decoders and validators stake MARSH to join the network.
• Rewards: network contributors are paid in MARSH.

The documentation also describes a Proof of Staked Authority design, in which a limited set of validators is elected through staking-based governance. It is not clear how much of this decentralized network design went live.

Background

Unmarshal announced a $2.6 million raise in March 2021 (CoinJournal). Backers included SPARK Digital, NGC Ventures, AU21, Woodstock, Altonomy and Zokyo, plus angel investors such as Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal. The company was led by CEO Manohara Kolagondanahalli. CoinMarketCap also lists Manohar Shetty as a founder.

Solana relevance

Solana was one of the chains Unmarshal named at launch, so developers could use its APIs to pull decoded Solana token and transaction data. Unmarshal was never a Solana-native protocol, and its token lives on Ethereum. With its endpoints and documentation now offline, Solana developers who need indexed data should use an actively maintained provider.
