Quidax
Quidax is a Nigerian-founded cryptocurrency exchange and digital asset infrastructure provider established in 2017, built specifically around the needs of African retail and business users. Headquartered in Lagos and led by CEO Buchi Okoro, the platform has grown into one of the continents most recognized regulated exchanges. Quidax holds the distinction of being Nigerias first digital assets exchange to receive provisional licensing from the countrys Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Following Nigerias updated Investment and Securities Act framework in 2025, Quidax secured full Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) status from the Nigerian SEC, cementing its position as one of the most compliance-forward crypto platforms operating on the continent.
At its core, Quidax operates a spot cryptocurrency exchange supporting more than 75 digital assets as of early 2026, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Cardano, and USDT. Trading is conducted in African local currencies, primarily the Nigerian Naira, Ghanaian Cedi, and Kenyan Shilling, rather than USD or EUR pairs, reflecting the platforms deliberate focus on local financial integration. Two trading modes are available: instant swaps for users who want immediate execution without setting prices, and traditional order book trading with limit orders and live bids and asks.
The exchanges mobile applications for Android and iOS are designed with low-bandwidth environments in mind and optimized for older devices common in emerging markets. In Nigeria, the platform issues a Quidax Visa card that enables users to convert cryptocurrency to Naira at point-of-sale retail locations. Deposits via local bank transfer and peer-to-peer channels are free. Taker fees range from 0.2% to 0.3%. QDX token holders receive up to 25% discounts on trading fees.
Quidax issues its own native utility token, QDX, which operates on the BNB Chain. The token serves multiple purposes across the Quidax ecosystem: holders receive trading fee discounts, can stake QDX to earn passive rewards, and gain access to ChainQuest, a play-to-earn game built on BNB Chain. QDX also powers Premium Cards, NFT-based instruments that generate passive income for holders automatically. The token has a deflationary supply model with active buyback-and-burn mechanisms and trades on MEXC, PancakeSwap, WEEX, and Quidaxs own platform. The team has announced plans to bridge QDX to additional blockchains including Solana, and Solana is already a supported spot trading pair on the exchange.
Beyond retail trading, Quidax has built a substantial business-to-business product line. Its Crypto API enables exchanges, fintechs, wallets, and neobanks to embed digital asset services without constructing the underlying infrastructure themselves. The API follows standard REST conventions with JSON encoding and supports wallet generation, sending and receiving crypto, real-time fiat-to-crypto market pricing, quotations, and crypto-backed lending. It is designed as a full integration layer for businesses seeking crypto payment processing capabilities.
In July 2026, Quidax announced a significant expansion of its stablecoin payment infrastructure to more than 21 countries and 14 currencies. The infrastructure supports USDT, XAUT, USAT, and other leading stablecoins, enabling startups, fintechs, and global enterprises to move value across Africa and into international markets. Settlement occurs in under 48 hours, and transaction costs are structured to align with the G20 and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal target of keeping cross-border payment fees below 5%. CEO Buchi Okoro described the infrastructure as built to remove the financial penalty businesses face moving money across Africa.
African markets covered include Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Cote dIvoire. International corridors extend to Canada, China, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States, and several European countries. Supported currencies include the Nigerian Naira, Ghanaian Cedi, Central African CFA franc, West African CFA franc, and the US Dollar, among twelve additional local and international currencies. As of mid-2026, Quidaxs stablecoin infrastructure serves more than 5,000 businesses across the payments, remittance, gaming, and banking sectors.
Quidax stores customer funds in cold wallets, requires mandatory two-factor authentication via Google Authenticator, and supports biometric login with real-time transaction alerts. The platform reports no major security breaches since launch. Its compliance stack includes a partnership with Chainalysis, the blockchain analytics firm widely adopted by regulators and financial institutions, and a partnership with Tether, the worlds largest stablecoin issuer by market capitalization.
Quidax occupies a distinctive niche among African crypto platforms: it holds full regulatory licensing at a time when most regional competitors operate under provisional frameworks or remain unlicensed. Its strategic pivot toward enterprise stablecoin infrastructure during 2025-2026 positions it less as a pure retail exchange and more as cross-border financial rails for African commerce, a growing addressable market as dollar-pegged assets are increasingly adopted as inflation hedges and remittance vehicles across the continent. The exchanges Solana listing and planned QDX bridge to Solana reflect interest in connecting its African-focused ecosystem to broader blockchain networks and liquidity.
