When Prashant Upadhyay, Vivek Kumar, and Tanmay Chaudhari left Rippling in 2022, they carried with them a particular frustration: building enterprise payment and compliance infrastructure was needlessly hard. At Rippling, they had worked on payroll rails, international payments, and risk systems for some of the world's fastest-growing companies. What they found was that every institution rebuilding stablecoin and digital asset capabilities had to solve the same underlying problems from scratch — key management, policy enforcement, compliance reporting, liquidity access — with no common substrate to build on.
PrimeVault is their answer. The company, founded in San Francisco and backed by Y Combinator's Summer 2022 batch, describes itself as an enterprise operating system for stablecoins and digital assets: a modular, composable platform that handles the full operational stack for moving digital money across chains and borders at institutional scale.
What PrimeVault Does
The core idea is consolidation. Traditional enterprises operating in stablecoins and digital assets typically assemble a patchwork of custody providers, compliance tools, trading venues, and treasury managers — each with its own APIs, risk models, and operational overhead. PrimeVault replaces that stack with a unified system.
At the infrastructure layer, the platform provides multi-chain wallet solutions capable of managing assets across more than 100 blockchains through a single interface. These are not simple hot wallets: PrimeVault's custody architecture combines Multi-Party Computation (MPC), Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), and formal verification to produce what the company calls zero-counterparty-risk self-custody — institutions retain direct asset control without handing keys to a third party.
Above that sits a programmable policy engine. Enterprises can define Maker-Checker approval workflows, configure permissioned wallet access for different teams and counterparties, set transaction limits and velocity controls, and automate recurring operations like rebalancing and scheduled transfers. The intent-based design means treasury operations that once required manual intervention can be codified once and executed reliably at scale.
For liquidity, PrimeVault connects to a network of more than 100 institutional partners, spanning centralized exchanges, DeFi protocols, OTC desks, and local on/off-ramp providers. A CeDeFi trading layer aggregates liquidity across venues, routes orders through best-execution algorithms, and enables institutions to access DeFi yields and markets without sacrificing the compliance posture they require. The platform also provides real-time portfolio monitoring, proactive risk alerts, and transaction simulation before execution.
Compliance infrastructure rounds out the stack: audit trails, transaction surveillance, and automated regulatory reporting are built into the platform rather than bolted on afterward.
Security Architecture
PrimeVault's security model is built around hardware-level isolation. Trusted Execution Environments create cryptographic guarantees that signing operations happen inside secure enclaves, isolated from the host system and inaccessible to operators. Combined with MPC key management — where no single party ever holds a complete private key — and formal verification of the policy engine, the architecture is designed to provide strong mathematical guarantees about what can and cannot happen to assets on the platform.
The company reports zero security incidents since launch, maintains SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications, and has undergone audits by Halborn. Signing speeds of under two milliseconds and 99.99% platform uptime support the institutional-grade reliability the company claims.
Traction and Backers
The metrics PrimeVault cites reflect its positioning as infrastructure for enterprises that are themselves moving significant capital. The platform reports over $120 billion in annualized transaction volume. The team has grown to a headcount in the 11-50 range with operations spanning San Francisco, India, and the UAE.
Investor backing is strategically relevant. Y Combinator provided the initial stamp of legitimacy and network access. Arrington Capital and HashKey Capital bring deep crypto-native institutional relationships. Near Foundation and Alchemy Ventures extend the platform's reach into Web3 developer ecosystems. Cogitent Ventures rounds out the cap table.
Growing Integration Footprint
PrimeVault has been systematic in expanding its chain coverage and ecosystem partnerships. A 2024 integration with the Radix network brought institutional-grade custody, DeFi automation, and CeDeFi liquidity access to Radix's protocol ecosystem — the company specifically cited enabling access to Radix-native DeFi applications including CaviarNine, Ociswap, and Surge. In mid-2025, PrimeVault announced integration with Alephium, a high-throughput proof-of-work L1, alongside a $200,000 grant fund in credits to incentivize teams building on that network. The company has also announced first-mover institutional infrastructure support for the ICP ecosystem.
These integrations reflect a deliberate strategy: as stablecoin adoption broadens across chains, PrimeVault positions itself as the institutional operations layer that works regardless of which underlying network a business chooses. That cross-chain agnosticism — with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 guarantees attached — is a meaningful differentiator in a market where most custody and treasury tools are built chain-specific.
The Market It Targets
PrimeVault is not a consumer product. Its customers are fintechs building stablecoin payment rails, crypto exchanges managing treasury and operational wallets, stablecoin issuers handling reserve and distribution infrastructure, and traditional enterprises entering digital asset management. Market makers, OTC desks, venture capital firms managing token positions, and Web3 foundations needing treasury infrastructure are also named target segments.
Developers integrate via API and SDKs; the company claims onboarding to first live transaction can happen in hours, backed by sub-five-minute support response times.
Founding Team
All three original co-founders — Upadhyay (CEO), Kumar, and Chaudhari — built product and engineering at Rippling before starting PrimeVault. Two additional co-founders, Akansh Jain (Chief Business Officer) and Jay McCarthy, round out the founding team. The Rippling background is directly relevant: Rippling built one of the more complex multi-entity payroll and payments orchestration systems in enterprise software, and the founders applied that operational discipline to the digital asset custody and treasury problem.
Positioning
The platform's stated mission — "the new architecture for global money" — reflects where the founders see the trajectory of enterprise finance. As stablecoins move from niche instrument to payment infrastructure for multinationals, the need for enterprise-grade tooling to issue, manage, and move them becomes foundational rather than optional. PrimeVault is building the thesis that the institution that solves this operational layer comprehensively, rather than incrementally, wins the category.
With a team that built Rippling's payment and compliance stack, institutional backing from both traditional crypto funds and Web3 foundations, and a platform already processing nine-figure annualized volumes, PrimeVault has established credible early footing in what is shaping up to be one of the more consequential infrastructure categories in digital finance.
