BitMart
BitMart is a global centralized cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2017 by Sheldon Xia and incorporated in the Cayman Islands. After becoming fully operational in 2018, the platform has grown to serve more than 12 million users across 180+ countries, positioning itself as one of the leading destinations for trading early-stage and mid-cap altcoins alongside major assets.
What BitMart Does
BitMart functions as a full-service crypto exchange with a product suite that spans spot, margin, futures, copy trading, a prediction market, an NFT marketplace, and a yield-bearing staking product called BitMart Earn. The platform lists over 1,700 cryptocurrencies and more than 1,500 trading pairs, making it one of the broader offerings in the industry. That depth is a deliberate product choice: BitMart has cultivated a reputation for listing emerging tokens and projects earlier than larger, more conservative exchanges.
For professional traders, BitMart offers perpetual futures contracts on more than 460 assets with leverage of up to 200x. The copy trading feature allows less-experienced participants to mirror the positions of experienced traders automatically.
Fee Structure
Spot trading fees sit at 0.25% for both maker and taker for large-cap markets, and 0.40% for smaller-cap pairs. Futures fees are considerably lower at 0.02% (maker) and 0.06% (taker).
Users who hold BitMart's native exchange token, BMX, receive a 25% discount on trading fees. BMX is issued on the Ethereum network and had a circulating supply of approximately 324 million tokens at the time of writing, with a market cap in the range of $88 million.
BitMart and the Solana Ecosystem
BitMart has maintained integration with the Solana network since the early days of the ecosystem's growth. The exchange has offered SOL/USDT, SOL/BTC, and SOL/ETH spot trading pairs and was among the earlier platforms to support Solana Program Library (SPL) token deposits and withdrawals — including USDT-SPL and USDC-SPL — beginning in June 2021.
Beyond SOL itself, BitMart has actively listed tokens from Solana-native projects, reflecting a broader pattern in which BitMart positions itself as a venue where Solana ecosystem projects can reach a broad retail audience at or near launch.
Scale and Recognition
As of mid-2025, BitMart reported crossing 12 million registered users. The platform has received external recognition: CNBC named it among its Top 200 Global Fintech Companies in 2023, and Investopedia identified it as one of the best crypto exchanges for altcoin trading in its March 2024 rankings.
Regulatory Expansion
BitMart has pursued an increasingly formal regulatory footprint. In November 2025, the company officially launched BitMart US, a dedicated entity designed to comply with US financial regulations and operating with licenses in 49 US states. The same year, the exchange obtained an Australian Financial Services Licence under Australia's 2026 Digital Assets Framework.
BitMart is not authorized by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority and remains unavailable to UK residents as of late 2023.
Security History
BitMart experienced one of the more consequential exchange security incidents of 2021. In December of that year, hackers exploited a stolen private key to compromise two of the exchange's hot wallets — one on Ethereum and one on BNB Chain — draining approximately $196 million in assets. The attackers used the decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch to convert stolen tokens into ETH, then routed funds through the Tornado Cash privacy mixer. BitMart CEO Sheldon Xia confirmed the cause publicly and committed to covering all affected users' losses from the company's own reserves. The FTC opened what was reportedly its first known inquiry into the crypto industry in connection with the incident.
In the wake of the breach, BitMart implemented a set of security improvements, including expanded cold wallet storage for user funds, a formal bug bounty program through HackenProof, and routine penetration testing. The exchange resumed deposits and withdrawals within days of the incident for most supported networks, including Solana.
