The reUSD lending market on Kamino Finance KMNO$0.026+19.8% crossed $20 million in total market size on August 21, eight days after the isolated credit market went live on Solana. Kamino confirmed the milestone with a brief announcement; Re Finance, the protocol that issues reUSD, added the eight-day count.

What reUSD Is and How the Reinsurance Backing Works

Re Finance describes itself as onchain infrastructure for the global reinsurance market, the segment in which insurance companies transfer portions of their own risk exposure to larger, specialized capital pools. Reinsurance is, in one serviceable shorthand, insurance for insurers: it exists so a major loss event does not wipe out a primary insurer's entire balance sheet.

The protocol routes that exposure into reUSD, a yield-bearing deposit token backed by a $510.5 million underwriting portfolio spanning 49 US states across five insurance lines: small business commercial accounts for 45% of that portfolio, commercial auto for 25%, homeowners for 17%, workers' compensation for 12%, and personal auto for the remainder. The yield on reUSD derives from insurance premium income rather than DeFi lending spreads or protocol token inflation, a yield source structurally disconnected from crypto market conditions.

As we covered when reUSD launched on Solana on August 11 via Chainlink CCIP, the architecture involves Re Finance issuing reUSD on Ethereum and users bridging to Solana through Chainlink's cross-chain interoperability protocol. Steakhouse Financial, a DeFi risk management firm, curated the Kamino market that went live two days later on August 13.

How the Steakhouse-Curated Kamino Market Works

Kamino Finance KMNO$0.026+19.8%'s curated market model lets specialized risk managers create isolated credit markets with their own supply caps and collateral parameters, distinct from Kamino's main lending pools. The reUSD market functions as a dedicated isolated lane: depositors supply reUSD as collateral, and Steakhouse's High Yield vaults provide the borrowable USDC and USDG (USDG, the Global Dollar stablecoin) on the other side. The vault does not hold reUSD directly; it supplies the borrow-side liquidity.

Borrowers can also loop reUSD against USDG directly within the market. Re Finance noted on August 20 that more than $7 million in borrowable liquidity was available at that point, and confirmed that the USDG loop path is supported natively within the market's parameters.

From 76-Minute Cap Fill to $20M in Eight Days

The market launched on August 13 with a 1 million reUSD supply cap. That cap filled within 76 minutes. Re Finance's announcement of the subsequent expansion noted the timing. Further increases brought the cap to 5 million and then to 20 million reUSD as deposits continued over the following week. By August 21, the total market size (collateral deposited plus liquidity supplied) had crossed $20 million.

The pattern of cap fills carries signal. When each supply ceiling fills before the next one opens, the data shows that demand tracked supply at every increment rather than spiking once and fading. That is a different profile from a market that opens with high incentives, attracts a burst of early deposits, and then stalls before the cap is even reached. Whether the pace continues as incentives normalize is a separate question, but the 76-minute fill on the opening cap is a real data point about initial appetite.

Where reUSD Fits in Kamino's Expanding RWA Lending Strategy

Kamino Finance KMNO$0.026+19.8%'s RWA lending footprint has been expanding through 2026. Kamino's share of the onchain RWA lending market grew from 2% to 18% since October 2025, with vaults now accounting for 25% of all deposits on the protocol. The curated market structure is the mechanism: by giving specialized risk managers control over isolated lanes with their own parameters, Kamino can accommodate assets with distinct risk profiles without touching its main pool.

The reUSD market is the second reinsurance-linked isolated market on Kamino. OnRe's srONyc market uses the same curated-market model and has grown to more than $200 million in total market size. Two separate reinsurance protocols operating isolated markets on the same lending protocol suggests the structure is functional at scale, not a single-protocol experiment.

Re Finance also runs reUSD integrations across more than ten protocols, including Pendle, Morpho, Jupiter Earn, Curve Finance, Fluid, Beefy Finance, and Euler Finance, in addition to Kamino. The protocol holds approximately $488 million in total value locked across those integrations, per the live data at re.xyz.
