Raydium's RAY Buyback Pace Hits Its Highest Level Since Early 2026, With $150K Acquired in Three Days
Raydium's fee-funded buyback program acquired roughly $150K in RAY over three days, the highest rate since early 2026, per Messari data confirmed by Raydium.
Raydium RAY$0.640+2.5% acquired approximately $150,000 worth of RAY in the three days ending August 8, the fastest buyback pace since early 2026, according to data published by Messari by Blockworks. Raydium's official account confirmed the activity the same afternoon: "Deploying more capital."
How Raydium's Protocol Fees Fund RAY Buybacks
The buyback program runs automatically from trading fees. Per Raydium's documentation, 12% of all swap fees collected across the protocol route to open-market RAY purchases. The split varies by pool type: CLMM and CPMM pools send 84% of fees to liquidity providers, 12% to buybacks, and 4% to the treasury, while Standard AMM v4 pools direct 88% to liquidity providers and the remaining 12% to buybacks.
Bought-back RAY accumulates at a public on-chain address (DdHDoz94o2WJmD9myRobHCwtx1bESpHTd4SSPe6VEZaz), making the program fully auditable on Solscan or Solana Explorer. Raydium's documentation states: "the chain is the ledger for the flow."
Raydium Trading Volume and the Fee Revenue Behind the RAY Buyback Surge
Buyback rate is a direct output of fee revenue, and fee revenue rises with trading volume. A return to the highest pace since early 2026 indicates that swap activity across Raydium's pools has reached levels comparable to the elevated period earlier this year.
The connection between trading volume and buybacks is mechanical: more swaps generate more fees, and more fees send a larger 12% share to the buyback wallet. When activity drops, buybacks slow proportionally. Raydium's AMM processed $507.7 million in swap volume from July 10 through August 7, per Solana Compass data.
Raydium's AMM processed $507.7 million in swap volume from July 10 through August 7, with a July 27 surge to $42.8 million and elevated activity in early August generating the fee revenue that funds RAY buybacks.
View on Solana Compass →Raydium has expanded its fee-generating surface across 2026. Q2 xStocks tokenized equity volume reached $1.63 billion, per Raydium's own reporting, and permissioned AMM pools launched in July added another revenue stream. Both broaden the pool of fees available for buybacks.
Buyback Accumulation Versus Distribution
The bought-back RAY is held at the protocol address rather than burned outright or distributed to stakers. As of July 2025, Raydium had spent more than $190 million repurchasing over 69 million RAY tokens (roughly 25% of circulating supply), according to The Block. The final disposition of those tokens rests with governance.
The accumulation model has faced scrutiny across DeFi. A Breakpoint 2025 debate examined the competing arguments: whether systematic buybacks genuinely reduce float and return value to holders, or whether holding rather than burning or distributing simply defers the question of what governance does with the treasury.
For now, Raydium's answer is to keep buying.
