Column N.A., a $1.77B FDIC bank, launched native USDC and USDT stablecoin rails on Solana as its default chain with 24/7 fiat conversion and no prefunding.

Column N.A., a federally chartered U.S. bank with $1.77 billion in assets, launched native stablecoin banking rails on September 16, making Solana SOL$101.07+1.2% the default blockchain in its developer API. Fintech builders on Column can now send, receive, and convert USDC and USDT around the clock with no prefunding required, with stablecoin balances and bank accounts on the same ledger.

Column is an FDIC member bank. Its stablecoin product is built directly into its banking core, not layered on top of a third-party crypto custody provider. The bank reported processing tens of billions in annualized volume through the product, though it did not disclose the precise dollar figure or measurement period.

The stablecoin product launched alongside three others on the same day: full-stack card issuing with a built-in issuer processor, global banking accounts for international fiat and local-currency issuance, and multicurrency accounts with SEPA Instant connectivity.

How Column's Same-Ledger Architecture Eliminates Prefunding on Solana

The technical design is what Column is selling. Conventional fintech stablecoin setups require prefunded wallets, separate custody accounts, and coordination across at least two counterparties (a bank for fiat and a crypto provider for on-chain transfers). Column's system puts both on the same ledger, so conversion is instantaneous and no float sits between the bank account and the stablecoin balance.

Column's product page shows the API default:

curl 'https://api.column.com/transfers/crypto' \
    -d currency_code=USDC \
    -d network=solana \
    -d destination_address="9xQeWvG8...VFin"

Solana is the network parameter in the example, not Ethereum. Ethereum and other major chains are supported, but leading the documentation with Solana reflects where Column is directing developer attention.

The same API call operates alongside Column's full payment suite (ACH, FedWire, RTP, FedNow, SWIFT, checks, and card networks) without a secondary integration. A developer already using Column for ACH payments changes one parameter to route the same payout over USDC on Solana.

USDC and USDT Conversion Across ACH, FedWire, RTP, FedNow, and SWIFT

Column converts incoming USDC or USDT to U.S. dollars instantly on receipt, so recipients do not need to hold stablecoins. The reverse works in the same way: a U.S. dollar balance converts to stablecoin on the way out. Both directions settle 24/7.

The product page describes this as removing the time constraint of legacy banking. "9:00 PM on a Saturday functions no different than 9:00 AM on a Tuesday," Column states on the product page, contrasting round-the-clock stablecoin conversion with ACH batch cutoffs and weekend wire blackouts.

The stablecoin-backed card product extends the same principle to card payments. When a Visa or Mastercard authorization arrives, it settles against the actual stablecoin balance at that moment, with no interim conversion window or settlement float. Column supports debit, credit, and stablecoin-backed card types through its full-stack card issuing product.

Brex and Slash Are Already Live on Column's Stablecoin Rails

Brex and Slash are named in Column's launch materials as fintech companies already building on the stablecoin product. Brex co-founder and co-CEO Henrique Dubugras was quoted directly:

Ramp, Mercury, and Bilt were also named in the launch as existing clients operating at scale across Column's product suite, though those companies were cited in the context of the full product launch rather than stablecoin specifically.

Column founder William Hockey framed the goal as consolidating what currently requires multiple vendors. Customers can now use "one bank โ€” Column โ€” to build any financial product at the frontier," he said in the launch materials.

A Second Chartered U.S. Bank Directs Its Stablecoin Growth to Solana

Column's launch continues a pattern that has been forming through 2026. In June, SoFi Bank N.A.'s SoFiUSD stablecoin supply tripled from $100 million to $300 million in five weeks, with all of that growth on Solana while the Ethereum deployment stayed flat. SoFi Bank N.A. operates under an OCC charter; Column N.A. operates under a federal bank charter with FDIC membership. Both are chartered U.S. institutions, and both are building their stablecoin volume on Solana.

Toss Bank signed an MOU with the Solana Foundation in June to test stablecoin cross-border remittances on Solana, at proof-of-concept stage. Column's is a production deployment with reported volume already running.

The Solana stablecoin ecosystem reflects the pull that's drawing these institutions. Solana daily stablecoin active addresses hit 888,000 in September 2026, up 269% year-over-year from 333,000, per RWA.xyz data. Circle USDC$1.000+0.0%'s USDC circulating supply on Solana reached $8.2 billion of $16.3 billion total across all chains, with 9 million holder wallets.

Column is the first to describe Solana as the default blockchain in its API: the network the code example shows first, not one option among many. That positioning is what separates this announcement from the growing list of stablecoin products that include Solana as one of several chains.
