Graphite Protocol

Graphite Protocol is a multi-chain technology infrastructure developed by Taiyo Robotics, designed to support various Web3 activities across Solana, Ethereum, Binance, and potentially other blockchains. It serves as the backbone for Taiyo's ecosystem, replacing the previous $SCRAP token with $GRAPHITE.

About

Taiyo Robotics

Taiyo Robotics is a Solana-native NFT project that evolved from a community-rescued genesis collection into the anchor brand of the Graphite Protocol ecosystem. Founded in late 2021, the project initially launched 2,121 generative robot NFTs — the Gen1 collection — and quickly established itself as one of the recognized blue-chip NFT brands on Solana.

The Origin Story

The project's founding narrative is defining. The original development team abandoned Taiyo Robotics within weeks of launch, leaving holders without a team and uncertain about the project's future. The Solana NFT developer known as Tom Solport stepped in within 24 hours of the abandonment announcement, acquiring the project and committing to a rebuild. Under new stewardship, Taiyo Robotics expanded from a single-collection experiment into a multi-collection ecosystem with staking utility and its own token. The community voted Taiyo the top community derug — the practice of rescuing an abandoned NFT project — on Solana in 2022, a distinction that reflects both the holder community's resilience and the quality of the turnaround.

The Collections

The Taiyo universe grew into five interconnected NFT collections:

Gen1 Taiyo Robotics — the 2,121 original robot NFTs. These are the most valuable assets in the ecosystem. Gen1 holders receive the highest staking yields in terms of $GP token emissions and serve as the governance backbone of the community.

Gen2 Taiyo Infants — a companion collection of 1,500 NFTs. Holding three Gen2 Infants yields staking rewards equivalent to a single Gen1, making Gen2 a more accessible entry point into the ecosystem without requiring the premium paid for a Gen1 robot.

Taiyo Oil — an airdropped asset distributed to all Gen1 and Gen2 holders. Oil functions as a deflationary yield booster: burning 5L of Oil provides a 5% boost to staking rewards, while burning 10L provides a 10% boost. This mechanic creates active demand for Oil as an asset while reducing circulating supply over time.

Taiyo Pilots — a third-generation collection of 12,500 NFTs that minted in December 2022. Pilots expanded the Taiyo community significantly and introduced faction-based gameplay elements, representing the project's push into a larger and more accessible holder base.

Solsteads — a planned collection of 2,500 NFTs conceived as metaverse real estate within the Taiyo world, intended to extend the ecosystem's utility surface further.

The Graphite Protocol

The Taiyo ecosystem's evolution led directly to the creation of the Graphite Protocol: a no-code creator infrastructure suite built on Solana with planned expansion to Ethereum and Polygon. The protocol is designed to allow non-technical creators to launch NFT collections, tokens, and blockchain projects without requiring dedicated developer resources. It aims to replace existing minting infrastructure with a more accessible, creator-first toolset.

The Graphite Protocol's native token, $GP, serves as the ecosystem's utility layer. With a total supply of 150 million tokens, 50% was allocated to Taiyo NFT holders through staking rewards. The Graphite IDO launched in February 2023, establishing $GP as a tradeable asset on Solana DEXes and cementing the link between Taiyo NFT ownership and token accumulation.

Staking mechanics use a milestone model: the longer a Gen1 or Gen2 NFT remains staked, the higher the daily $GP emission rate. This progressive rate structure rewards long-term commitment and is designed to reduce the NFT supply available on secondary markets.

Utility: The Incubator Loop

Beyond token emissions, Taiyo Robotics operates as an incubator for new Solana projects. The Taiyo Incubator provides NFT holders with early access — typically whitelist allocations or priority minting — to projects that launch through Graphite Protocol infrastructure. This creates a direct utility loop: holding Taiyo NFTs earns $GP, earned $GP unlocks access to new project launches, and the Graphite Protocol's creator tools attract new projects that generate that access. Holders also receive whitelist allocations to projects in the broader Graphite partner network.

Graphite Protocol Today

By 2026, the Graphite Protocol has extended beyond Taiyo's immediate community. The protocol powers BONKlive, the launchpad associated with the BONK memecoin ecosystem — an integration that demonstrates real-world adoption of Graphite's infrastructure tools by one of Solana's highest-profile communities. The $GP token continues to trade on Solana-based decentralized exchanges, with a circulating supply of approximately 35 million tokens and a market capitalization in the multi-million dollar range.

The protocol's positioning as no-code NFT and token launch infrastructure places it within a competitive field of creator tools on Solana, with the Taiyo NFT collections serving as the community and brand layer on top of the underlying technical stack.

Community Standing

At its peak, Taiyo Robotics was consistently cited among Solana's blue-chip NFT projects — a cohort that included DeGods, Blocksmith Labs, and Famous Fox Federation. The community has sustained itself through multiple market cycles, held together by ongoing staking rewards and the Graphite Protocol's expanding product surface. That continuity — from a rescued genesis collection in 2021 through a full token and protocol launch by 2023 — represents one of the more complete ecosystem buildouts in Solana NFT history.
