Socket Protocol

Socket Protocol is chain abstraction infrastructure that routes transactions across more than 50 blockchains through a single unified API, enabling developers to build multi-chain applications without managing separate bridge integrations for every network. Socket sits between applications and the fragmented landscape of blockchain liquidity. Rather than requiring developers to integrate each bridge or DEX individually, Socket aggregates routes across protocols like Across, Stargate, Hop, and Connext alongside DEX liquidity on each chain, then surfaces the optimal path through one REST API and JavaScript SDK. The protocol does not hold liquidity directly. Its smart contracts dispatch calls to underlying bridges and DEXes rather than custodying funds, which means settlement security is inherited from those underlying protocols. The Modular Order Flow Auction (MOFA) is an open marketplace where independent agents called Transmitters compete to execute user requests. Instead of relying on a single pre-determined relayer, MOFA turns execution into a decentralized auction where Transmitters bid for the right to execute batches of user operations across one or more chains. The App-Gateway pattern lets developers deploy Solidity gateway contracts on Socket that receive signed user messages, processed and executed on destination chains. An integration with Polygon's Agglayer uses Agglayer's pessimistic proofs for security verification, enabling chain-abstracted accounts where users maintain unified token balances across multiple networks. Socket exposes three primary use cases: trading and cross-chain swaps across 50+ chains and 10,000+ assets; on-ramp solutions aggregating 50+ payment methods across wallets, cards, exchanges, and local rails in 100+ countries; and payments and FX for cross-border money movement. Bungee Exchange at bungee.exchange is Socket's consumer-facing product for cross-chain swaps. By mid-2026, Bungee expanded into tokenized stock trading. The platform has routed more than 15 billion USD in volume and is integrated into 100+ applications including Coinbase Wallet, Polymarket, and Matcha. Socket added Solana support in Q1 2026, enabling direct routes from Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, and other EVM networks to Solana-native assets. SOCKET is the protocol's governance token, with holders voting on parameter changes, fee configurations, and bridge integrations. As of Q1 2026 the market cap was approximately 72 million USD. The token does not directly capture transaction fees. Socket was founded in May 2021 and raised approximately 12.8 million USD across four rounds. The 5 million USD seed in March 2022 was led by Framework Ventures; a 5 million USD strategic round in September 2023 added Coinbase Ventures. Further backers include IDEO CoLab Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Nascent, Maven 11 Capital, and angel investors Mark Cuban and Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal. In January 2024, Socket suffered a 3.3 million USD exploit affecting 712 users via a call injection attack on a newly added bridge route. The route failed to validate the swapExtraData parameter, allowing the attacker to drain assets from wallets with unlimited approvals. The team paused contracts immediately. Socket occupies the infrastructure layer of the multi-chain stack as a routing backbone, with 2026 additions of Solana routing, tokenized asset trading on Bungee, and fiat payment rail integrations reflecting a broadening scope toward a general cross-chain financial network.
