Nodepay

Nodepay is a decentralized AI data infrastructure protocol built on Solana that converts idle internet bandwidth into real-time data pipelines for AI training and inference. Founded in early 2024 by co-founder Darren Nguyen, the project operates under the tagline "Collective intelligence redefined" — a reference to its core thesis that millions of internet-connected devices can collectively supply the high-quality, real-time data that modern AI models need but centralized providers struggle to deliver economically.

The Problem Nodepay Solves

AI models are only as good as the data they train on, and freshness matters enormously. Centralized data brokers and crawlers face a fundamental scaling problem: the cost of maintaining global data coverage at low latency climbs exponentially as AI demand grows. Meanwhile, ordinary internet users sit on underutilized bandwidth — a resource that goes to waste every night while a laptop sleeps or a home router idles.

Nodepay sits at that intersection. Rather than building centralized data centers, it recruits a global network of participants who contribute their spare bandwidth through lightweight, privacy-protected nodes. The network aggregates those contributions into live data streams that AI developers can tap for training, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and inference tasks.

How the Network Works

Participation starts with the Nodepay browser extension or mobile application. Once installed, a user's device acts as a node, routing approved data traffic through its idle connection. The protocol handles privacy protections at the node level, meaning user data is not exposed to the network — only the bandwidth contribution is shared.

On the infrastructure side, Nodepay combines four interlocking components:

  • Real-time data retrieval: Nodes pull current web content on demand, giving AI applications access to data that static training sets cannot provide.
  • Decentralized answer engine: Aggregated node outputs feed into a query layer that AI systems can query directly, enabling RAG workflows without centralized intermediaries.
  • Reinforcement learning integration: The network incorporates feedback loops that improve data quality signals over time, rewarding nodes whose contributions are most useful.
  • Gamified human verification: Human participants validate ambiguous data points, adding a layer of quality assurance that automated systems miss.

Nodes earn $NC tokens — the protocol's native Solana-based currency — in proportion to the bandwidth and data quality they contribute. Staking $NC also allows holders to participate in network security and governance, giving active contributors a voice in protocol development.

Growth and Traction

Nodepay's user acquisition has been aggressive. By early 2026, the protocol reported more than 2 million registered users spanning 180 countries, with over 120,000 monthly active users generating more than 12 million signal contributions to the network. That scale of participation translates into a meaningfully diverse data pipeline — a critical advantage over centralized alternatives that tend to over-represent certain geographies and content types.

The project's reach into mainstream attention has also been substantial. Its airdrop campaign in January 2025 generated widespread interest across the crypto community, with 11.5% of total supply — 115 million $NC tokens — distributed to early participants who had contributed bandwidth during the pre-launch phase.

Funding and Investors

Nodepay has raised $7 million in total across two funding rounds, attracting a notable mix of AI-native and crypto-native capital. Earlier backers include Animoca Brands, Mirana, OKX Ventures, JUMP Crypto, and Tokenbay Capital. The later round added IDG Capital (a $23 billion AUM manager), Mythos, Elevate Ventures, IBC, Optic Capital, and Funders.VC, along with strategic angels including Matthew Tan (founder of Etherscan) and Yusho Liu (co-founder and CEO of CoinHako).

The investor profile reflects how seriously the AI-meets-DePIN narrative has been taken by institutional allocators. IDG Capital's participation in particular signals that Nodepay is attracting attention beyond the typical Web3 investor cohort.

$NC Token and Tokenomics

$NC launched on Solana on January 14, 2025, with trading commencing at 13:00 UTC. The total supply is capped at 1 billion tokens, with an initial circulating supply of approximately 208 million tokens. The allocation is structured as follows:

  • 42% — Community incentives (420 million NC)
  • 22.5% — Ecosystem and Nodepay Foundation (225 million NC)
  • 21.5% — Investors and advisors (215 million NC)
  • 14% — Core team (140 million NC)

Token utility spans three main functions: paying for network services such as real-time data retrieval and AI-specific crawling; staking to secure the network and earn protocol rewards; and governance participation in protocol decisions.

The token's post-launch price trajectory has been difficult. $NC reached an all-time high of $0.3299 shortly after its January 2025 launch before declining substantially in line with the broader market correction in AI and DePIN tokens. The price decline does not appear to have affected protocol activity, with the network's user and contribution metrics continuing to grow through 2025 and into 2026.

Ecosystem Expansion

In May 2026, Nodepay announced a strategic partnership with Orca — an AI-powered automated trading platform — to jointly develop infrastructure for AI agent-driven prediction markets. The integration combines Orca's automated cross-platform trading and AI-driven market execution capabilities with Nodepay's real-time sentiment intelligence network. The combined system targets platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi, using Nodepay's crowd-generated signals to identify pricing inefficiencies that Orca's agents can then act on autonomously.

This partnership marks a meaningful pivot from Nodepay's original bandwidth-sharing narrative toward applied AI agent infrastructure — a sign that the protocol is evolving its positioning as the AI agent ecosystem matures. Nodepay's data layer becomes increasingly valuable as agents require real-time environmental awareness rather than static training data alone.

Competitive Positioning

Nodepay operates in a competitive DePIN landscape alongside projects like Grass, which also rewards users for sharing bandwidth to build AI training datasets. The distinction Nodepay draws is its emphasis on real-time data pipelines rather than historical crawl data — a positioning that aligns more closely with enterprise AI applications that require fresh signal inputs for inference rather than bulk training.

Its Solana deployment gives it access to low transaction costs and fast settlement, which matters for a protocol where micro-rewards are distributed continuously to thousands of nodes. The combination of Solana's throughput and Nodepay's real-time data architecture positions the project as infrastructure for the next generation of AI workloads — ones that demand speed and recency that legacy data providers cannot economically support.

With backing from institutional investors, more than 2 million registered users, and active partnerships extending its data layer into new verticals, Nodepay has established itself as one of the more substantive entries in the decentralized AI infrastructure space building on Solana.
