About

Matrix One

Matrix One is a decentralized AI character protocol built on the Solana blockchain, designed to democratize the creation, ownership, and monetization of human-like 3D AI characters. Where legacy platforms like Character.ai keep creative and economic value locked inside centralized systems, Matrix One redistributes that value to the builders and users who generate it — through on-chain ownership, transparent governance, and a token-driven incentive layer.

The project's tagline, "Making AI Human," captures its core thesis: that the next generation of AI should not be generic, interchangeable, and faceless, but distinctive, personality-rich, and verifiably owned. Matrix One provides the infrastructure to make that possible at scale.

The Problem Matrix One Addresses

Historically, creating realistic 3D characters with human-like interaction required studio-level budgets and deep technical expertise. Even as large language models lowered the cost of conversational AI, building characters with authentic personality, dynamic memory, visual identity, and voice remained out of reach for independent creators. Existing consumer platforms compounded this by capturing the commercial value of those characters while the creators received little in return.

Matrix One targets three failure modes of the incumbent model: high technical barriers to creation, asymmetric value distribution between platform and creator, and lack of data sovereignty for end users.

Protocol Architecture and Product Suite

Matrix One is organized around four modular protocol components.

Character Studio is the creation layer. Developers and non-technical users alike can use it to define an AI character's backstory, personality traits, voice, and behavioral rules. The Studio leverages large language models combined with LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation) fine-tuning to give each character a genuinely distinct conversational profile rather than a reskinned generic model.

Avatar Maker is the visual layer. Characters built in the Studio can be rendered as high-definition video, interactive 3D models, or Live2D animations. This bridges the gap between conversational AI and the kind of embodied digital characters that resonate in gaming, entertainment, and companion applications.

Model Index is an on-protocol catalog of thousands of language models and computing providers. Rather than locking developers into a single AI provider, Matrix One offers flexibility across models — allowing creators to choose the underlying intelligence that best fits their character's use case.

Character Marketplace is the economic layer. Creators can publish finished characters for other developers to discover and integrate. The marketplace is decentralized, meaning characters are owned on-chain and their creators receive compensation when their work is used or traded.

Together, these modules form a stack that takes a creator from concept to deployed, monetizable AI character without needing to manage model infrastructure, storage, or payment rails independently.

Avatar.One: The Protocol's First Application

The clearest proof of the model is Avatar. One, the first decentralized application built on Matrix One. The platform allows users to interact with and customize AI characters directly. As of the $MATRIX token launch in September 2024, Avatar. One had accumulated over 500,000 active users with more than 100,000 Solana wallets registered in the ecosystem — a meaningful adoption signal for a protocol still in its early rollout phase.

Avatar. One demonstrates the consumer-facing end of what Matrix One enables: accessible, engaging AI character interaction underpinned by on-chain ownership and protocol-level incentives rather than a centralized operator.

The $MATRIX Token

The $MATRIX token is the economic backbone of the Matrix One ecosystem. It launched on September 17, 2024, following a series of sold-out IDOs across Seedify, Polkastarter, ChainGPT, Eesee, and Ape Terminal launchpads. At launch, it became available on Gate.io, MEXC, and the Solana-native decentralized exchange Jupiter.

The token has a fixed total supply of 10 billion, with 164.5 million circulating at the token generation event. The allocation structure reserves 25% for the community, 11.85% for staking rewards, and 4% for airdrop programs targeting early adopters and active contributors.

$MATRIX serves four primary functions within the protocol:

Service subscriptions: Stakers receive complimentary access to premium features across Matrix One dApps, including Avatar.One.

Marketplace transactions: The token is used to purchase limited-edition 3D characters, scenes, emotes, and other digital assets on Character. One, the protocol's character trading marketplace.

Governance: Token holders vote on protocol upgrades, new dApp development, and DAO grant allocations.

Character upgrades: Tokens unlock advanced memory, personality traits, and skill sets for AI characters within the ecosystem.

A partnership with Kaizen Finance was announced in October 2024 to launch $MATRIX staking, adding yield mechanics for long-term holders.

Infrastructure and Technology Partners

Matrix One integrates decentralized infrastructure to reduce costs and centralization risks. GPU compute is sourced from decentralized networks, with Nosana named as a key partner for distributed GPU capacity supporting AI character creation workloads. Akash and ioNET are also listed as compute infrastructure partners. Filecoin provides decentralized storage, ensuring that characters and associated data are owned and controlled by their creators rather than held on platform servers.

This infrastructure composition allows Matrix One to offer AI compute at substantially lower costs than centralized cloud equivalents while maintaining creator data ownership — a meaningful differentiation from Web2 AI platforms.

Backers and Ecosystem Partners

Matrix One has raised backing from a roster of Web3-native investors that includes Animoca Brands, Digital Currency Group (DCG), Sfermion, Hypersphere, and Inception Capital. The breadth of that list — spanning gaming infrastructure, crypto-native funds, and NFT-focused investors — reflects the project's positioning at the intersection of AI, gaming, and decentralized ownership.

Ecosystem partners include Tensor (Solana's leading NFT and digital asset marketplace), the Solana Foundation, and gaming infrastructure providers YOM and Hype. These relationships point toward planned expansion into gaming NPC applications, where AI characters with persistent memory and unique personalities could become an entirely new class of in-game asset.

The project was co-founded by Mark Studholme, also a co-founder of MetaMundo and Avatar. One, giving the founding team direct product experience across both Web3 and AI character development.

Position in the Solana AI Ecosystem

Matrix One represents one of the earliest bets on Solana as the settlement layer for AI-native applications. By choosing Solana for its low transaction costs and high throughput, the protocol can support the high-frequency interactions that AI character use cases — gaming, companion apps, customer service agents, content creation — require without per-interaction fees making the economics unworkable.

The broader vision is a protocol where any developer can integrate production-quality AI characters into their application the same way they might integrate a payment API today: without building the underlying infrastructure, managing model deployment, or handling creator compensation independently. Matrix One aims to be that layer — making AI character creation as accessible as any other developer primitive on Solana.
