The Problem It Addresses

Legacy solutions to this problem typically require users to upload government IDs, submit to facial recognition scans, or register biometrics with a centralised provider. The trade-off of privacy for verification has been treated as unavoidable. Humanship ID was founded on the proposition that this trade-off is not inevitable.
How It Works
Humanship ID functions as a human identity layer, sitting beneath decentralised applications and protocols to supply a verifiable, privacy-preserving signal that the entity interacting is a unique human. The project describes itself as a "privacy-focused layer of human authentication." By building on Solana, Humanship ID takes advantage of the chain's high throughput and low transaction costs to make identity checks practical at scale without burdening users with gas fees or slow confirmation times.

The project launched around January 2025 and entered closed beta ahead of the Solana Cypherpunk Hackathon, which ran through December 2025. That hackathon drew more than nine thousand participants and 1,576 final project submissions, making it one of the largest crypto hackathons on record.
Hackathon Recognition
At the Solana Cypherpunk Hackathon, Humanship ID placed fifth in the Undefined Track, a category reserved for projects that do not fit neatly into DeFi, real-world assets, consumer applications, stablecoins, or infrastructure. Fifth place in that track earned the team a $25,000 USDC prize. Placement in the Undefined Track reflects the project's positioning as foundational infrastructure that cuts across multiple application domains rather than serving a single vertical.
The Cypherpunk Hackathon was judged by teams across Solana's ecosystem, and Humanship ID's recognition signals that builders and investors working closely with the network view privacy-preserving identity as a meaningful infrastructure gap worth solving.
Current Status
As of mid-2026, Humanship ID is in closed beta. The live website at humanship.id is operational and the project maintains a presence on X under the handle @humanship_id. No token has been publicly announced. The team has not disclosed audit engagements or third-party security reviews in publicly available materials, which is consistent with a pre-launch product in controlled testing.

Why It Matters

Humanship ID's focus on building a natively Solana, privacy-preserving identity layer addresses that gap directly.
