True Markets
True Markets is a Solana-based trading platform built on the premise that stablecoins should be the native unit of exchange—not an afterthought. The platform was co-founded in 2024 by Vishal Gupta and Patrick McCreary, two veterans of Coinbase, Goldman Sachs, and Circle who were responsible for building some of the most consequential financial infrastructure in the crypto industry. Gupta led the launch and growth of USDC at Circle before becoming Head of Exchange at Coinbase, where he expanded asset coverage and launched two derivatives exchanges. McCreary served as the senior engineer who architected the Coinbase International Exchange. Together they set out to solve a problem they had witnessed firsthand: retail traders were stuck with fragmented liquidity, opaque pricing, and custody workflows that lagged far behind what institutional participants enjoyed.
The core insight behind True Markets is that settling trades in stablecoins—rather than routing through volatile base assets—produces faster finality, lower slippage, and clearer pricing for everyday users. The platform never holds user assets directly. Instead it separates execution from custody through a non-custodial architecture powered by Turnkey, a key management infrastructure provider. Users get embedded hosted wallets that let them sign transactions without ever managing private keys, while True Markets retains no control over those funds. This design reduces the counterparty risk that plagues traditional centralized exchanges while preserving the user-experience convenience of a custodial product.
TrueX and the Institutional Bridge
In September 2024, True Markets publicly unveiled TrueX, its flagship exchange product, alongside a $9 million seed round. Investors in that round included RRE Ventures, Reciprocal Ventures, Paxos, Accomplice Blockchain, Hack VC, the Solana Foundation, and Aptos. TrueX is designed as a centralized exchange component that brings institutional-grade tooling—a proprietary matching engine, segregated execution and custody, and qualified custody integrations—into a product that remains accessible to retail users.
A cornerstone of the launch was a partnership with Paxos, with PayPal USD (PYUSD) designated as the default settlement currency on TrueX. This made True Markets one of the first exchanges to place a regulated, fiat-backed stablecoin at the center of its entire settlement stack rather than treating it as one deposit method among many. For trading firms and market makers, this means predictable, dollar-denominated settlement without the friction of manual stablecoin conversions at the end of each trading cycle.
Mobile App Launch and Series A
In May 2025, True Markets closed an $11 million Series A, bringing total capital raised to $20 million. The round was co-led by Accomplice and RRE Ventures, joined by Reciprocal Ventures, Variant Fund, and PayPal Ventures, with continuing support from seed investors Paxos Ventures and the Solana Foundation. Alongside the funding announcement the company launched its iOS mobile app, fulfilling the mobile-first vision the founders had outlined from inception.
The mobile app launched exclusively on Solana and supports over 120 Solana-native assets and more than 30 assets on Base. Execution is gasless—transaction fees are abstracted away from the user—and smart order routing is handled by Definitive, a liquidity aggregation layer that automatically routes orders across decentralized venues to deliver competitive fills. Because trades settle in stablecoins at the core, users always denominate profit and loss in a familiar unit without mentally converting through SOL or any other volatile asset. Real-time market sparklines display momentum, volatility, and price movement to help traders interpret conditions at a glance.
Platform Architecture for Multiple User Types
Beyond the retail mobile app, True Markets has built a broader trading infrastructure stack that serves four distinct groups. Retail API traders access quote, order, and balance management through REST and WebSocket endpoints secured with JWT authentication. Market makers connect via the FIX 4.4 protocol and qualify for volume-tiered maker rebates, keeping latency low for high-frequency workflows. Trading firms operate under principal, agency, or fully-disclosed models with direct market access and stablecoin settlement. Institutions seeking white-label integrations can embed True Markets' trading and wallet functionality directly into their own products.
Developer tooling includes TypeScript and Python SDKs, a terminal CLI client (tm), and MCP servers for AI-native trading integrations. A web browser interface and the iOS app serve as consumer entry points. This layered approach lets True Markets address a broad market—from the individual user who wants to swap tokens on their phone to a trading firm that requires a FIX connection and volume rebates from a single unified counterparty.
Stablecoin-Native Philosophy
The term "stablecoin-native" distinguishes True Markets from platforms that merely accept stablecoins as one of many deposit methods. On True Markets, the stablecoin is the foundational unit through which all positions are denominated, settled, and accounted for. This eliminates a structural friction common to most crypto trading: the need to convert back to a stable denomination at the close of a trade cycle to realize gains or measure performance. It also simplifies tax and accounting burdens for active traders by keeping settlement consistent throughout.
The non-custodial design reinforces this philosophy. Because Turnkey manages key infrastructure without True Markets holding the keys, users retain full ownership of funds even when using the hosted wallet experience. Execution and custody remain structurally distinct, reducing the risk profile relative to traditional centralized venues.
Road Ahead
Following the Series A, True Markets indicated plans to expand supported assets to include Bitcoin and Ethereum, extend stablecoin settlement options to additional regulated stablecoins, and eventually integrate both CeFi and DeFi markets under a single unified interface. The long-term vision is 24/7 global market access with settlement available across multiple blockchain ecosystems. TrueX, the institutional-grade centralized exchange component, is intended to supply deeper order book liquidity and qualified custody as the platform scales beyond its Solana-first launch footprint.
